Agent: They turned down a lot of money but now it’s different

|

Javier Mascherano’s agent Walter Tamer has told the Italian newspaperCorriere dello Sport that the Liverpool midfielder would see Inter Milan as a “dream move”:

“Mascherano has not spoken to (new Liverpool manager Roy) Hodgson nor with Liverpool. After the World Cup, he has switched off but it’s clear that he is happy to be a target of top clubs in the transfer market. Last season, it was the European champions Barcelona that wanted him and this year it’s Inter, the current Champions League winners. For him to be linked to Inter has a magical taste…it’s a dream. Think about it, the strongest team in the world wants him, a team where many of Mascherano’s compatriots play and a side that is guided by a coach with whom Mascherano has a personal bond. If it was up to Mascherano, the negotiations (with Inter) would be very easy. But he has a contract with Liverpool and first the two clubs would have to find an agreement before we step in.”

Tamer also revealed that Rafa Benitez turned down a sizeable bid from Barcelona last summer for Mascherano but he wouldn’t expect Liverpool to get the same amount this summer:

“Last year Benitez turned down a lot of money offered by Barcelona for the player but this is a different market. I have not been informed what Mascherano’s buy-out clause is. I await a call as I am the only one authorised to speak of his eventual transfer.”

there is nothing different this year – it is still an inflated seller’s market and Masch has 2 years to run on his contract, so we are in a strong position. We paid £20m for the guy several years ago and Barca recently sold another DM for £29m, so we need to use that as a guide.

Finally show some backbone in the transfer market Lievrpool!!

  • Nabster says:

Rafa set the price at £50m last season ….

So why should it change ……..

“Mascherano is not for sale at any price,” Benitez said on Liverpool’s official website. “Barcelona could not afford to match his value to Liverpool – they can offer 50 million pounds sterling, we don’t want to sell.”

“Clubs can forget about bidding for him – he has no price and he’s happy here.”

LFC made you who you are now. Don’t forget about that. If you don’t want to loyal to LFC, just leave. Anyway you are not as good as you think yourself. German made fool of Argentine midfield easily.

  • andy says:

Let him go. listen to Carra noone is bigger than LFC. Get what he’s worth and rebuild because as good as Masch is he spends half his time moaning about leaving and the other half on the sidelines with suspensions. There are better DM out there than him. swap him for Cambiasso and some cash. If yaya toure is worth 28 mil he’s worth atleast 35! Listen to Jay Liverpool and don’t undersell a player! YANKS OUT ARABS IN!!

  • samuel charles says:

facts he was brought for 18.6 mill, he has just under 2 years left on his contract.
he does fancy a move to a latin country and always has and always will, his wife bleats all the time as does he nitemare agent who has the biggest mouth since yossi benayouns agent!!! for me get as much money out of this possible, and the bloke ubove was right rafa did say that on the offical site so we should use that as bargin tool, barca will not pay that for a holding player when they want to pay out for fabregas and they have pedro, xavi, inesta, toure, etc, inter would be more likely to pay more, as they have cambiasso who is getting on, GET RID,,,, is what i want, i hate any players who want out, spend all the money on trying to get alonso back, which is a long shot, or the next option would be to buy schweinstiger from bayern, he was great at the world cup and we need hard true pros who can settle right in, plus he has been playing as a holding player for his country and this guy would fit with gerrard and another plus is he is still young and a would settle quicker than a latin/ south american spainish player etc,,, sepnd the lot on the german player. then sell reira and babel and buy lahm, then sell degen other deadwood and get crouch back

samuel charles, are you in dreamland again. Wake up and face the facts. Moving from the current Champions League runner-up, who has qualified for this years competition and has had 12 or more players in the World Cup semi finals to a club that has finished seventh and has, by the skin of it’s teeth, qualified for the Europa League, would be a backward step. Schweinsteiger surely is flavour of the month right now, but I spoke to a few Bayern Munich season ticket holders recently and they didn’t seem to think that he is as great as he appears to you.

  • RR says:

With just 2 years left on his contract, we need to be careful, if he wants to go, let him go for good money … otherwise keeping hold of him against his wishes could be costly … next year with 1 year left he will be worth less and of course the following year he can walk for free …

For me, its time we let go of those not 100%, no matter who they are, if they won’t commit 100% then we are better without …

    Great season ahead 🙂

just go if u want to go!!!!!!!!!

  • Andy H says:

Well 30 million and he’s yours, still see samuel charles is living in cloud cuckoo land Lahm! A clue why would Bayern sell? Why would he come to us at this moment? We don’t have the money. Seriously some fans drive me mad with the constant wishlist.

  • Dennis says:

If Mascherano wants to go and his heart is not in it, we should sell him for £35M -£45M and No Less, Rafa put a £50M price tag on his head when he was in charge, so he ain’t getting him on a cheap and if Barcelona want him again, they just sold Yaya Toure for £29M and Mascherano is better than Yaya.

So we should hold out for £35-£45M if Barcelona want him, If Inter want they will have to pay that also.

But if not, the only swap deal that should be considered if Inter want Mascherano that badly is: To give us Cambiasso and £25M For Mascherano.

And then we could bring in another solid, Holding Midfielder who can compete with Cambiasso at the club. ( Bring back M Sissoko of Juventus For £12M)

And then Bring in E Banega Of Valencia For £8M.

And then Riera, Lucas, El Zhar, Degan, Insua, Cavalieri, Itandje, Krygiakos, Plessis, Ngog and Kuyt should be sold on.

And the likes Of M Richards RB should be brought in, Taiwo of Marseille should be brought in as LB, A Dawson Of Hull should be brought in as LB cover.

B Hangeland Of Fulham Or G Cahill Of Bolton should be brought in to shore up defence CB.

S Defour of standard Liege or M Johnson Of Man City should be brought in as CM, A Sanchez of Udinese Or A Turan of Galatassary should be brought in to light up right wing.

D Capel of seville or R Drenthe should be brought in to excite, entertain and stretch teams out wide on the left wing.

And L Podolski of cologne and C Cole of West Ham should be brought in, to add more fire power to the club.

As if we want to get back in that Top 4, we need more strikers putting the ball in the back of the net.
