These rumoured transfers should concern any Reds fan

|

As a Liverpool fan I must admit that I am slightly worried about the quality of players the club is currently being linked with. I am not naive enough to believe every story as most of them come about through lazy journalism but when the same story comes out in several different newspapers it makes you think.

Liverpool FC have been linked with players such as Paul Scharner, James Beattie and Lee Cattermole and this concerns me on many different levels. Is this the calibre of player that will help us to heave ourselves back into the top 4 next season? I think not. Are these the type of players that would get into the squad of Chelsea, Arsenal or United? Not a chance. My other big concern is losing our top players. From what I understand, both Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are willing to commit their futures to the club but in exchange for this commitment they want to see the Manager improve the quality of the squad. If you were Fernando or Stevie how would you feel when reading the names of the players above?

I am aware the purse strings are tight at the moment and that attracting the right quality of player has become more difficult due to the lack of Champions League football but surely there are better options around?

On a more positive note there have been a couple of players mentioned that I do like the sound of. Ever Banega of Valencia, Steven Defour of Standard Liege and Arda Turan of Galatasaray. These players all possess great technical ability and are young enough to be moulded into the style of player that is successful in the Premier League. Whether any of these players are real targets for Roy Hodgson or just the usual newspaper rumours we will have to wait and see but let’s hope this is the level of quality the management team are looking at.

The club are at such a hugely important phase that spending money on transfers and wages recruiting the wrong kind of player could have catastrophic consequences. Instead of competing for the top four next season we could find ourselves battling for a Europa League spot.

Let me know your thoughts on the players mentioned and any other rumours you have heard and hope to be true or untrue!

I have been a Liverpool fan for 22 years. I live in Watford and as a kid my dad would take me to see the Hornets every week. John Barnes quckly became my footballing idol. When he moved on to Liverpool I began to follow the team and have supported them ever since

you say you are not naive enought o belive all stories but then go onto ,mention Beattie, Cattermole & Scharner! I am never concerned about rumours if you believe them then David Villa & Silva would have been Liverpool players 3 years ago. Rumours are just that even our manager came out and said take these rumours with a pich of salt – what more do you want. It is of more concern that people are still gullible enough to believe any tosh written. Every paper this summer has said Torres is staying and that he is going, ask yourself why coz the know jack ****. That’s why.

I wouldn’t oppose to Scharner as a squad player on a free. Solid, versatile player with plenty of premiership experience. But not Beattie, ffs.

the thing is to try to work out which of the rumours have been planted by the salesmen who now run the club. last year it was alonso this years big pay off is mascherano, we are then supposed to be greatful that torres never left.

Can you please provide the web links to articles shwoing we are interested in James Beattie and Lee Cattermole? I have not seen any and wonder if your article is mischief-making? I even doubt you are a Liverpool fan.

You have to bear in mind that Scharner, Beattie, and Cattermole were linked to Fulham before Roy joined, these rumours have simply followed with him.

Rumours are rumours, simple as that, we’re linked to every player known to man at the moment, let’s wait until some tangeable links actually start coming up before pushing panic buttons.

I’m not opposed to Scharner, good versatile player, remember the Jolly Greek Giant, Gary Mac etc..

Annoyed by people asking if this player would get into another team. Doesn’t matter. If he does it for your club, who really cares if he could play for another? Beattie would be a bit part player but would also give time for Ngog to go out on loan and Dalla Valle to continue his growth. Scharner is quite a talented player. Cattermole, average yes but still has the heart to play. Again, doesn’t matter if he can play for United, Arsenal or Chelsea. Arsenal haven’t won anything in ages, Cattermole is definitely better than most of the fringe players at United and is definitely better than Diaby or Denilson.

i agree with andrew, scharner will be a good addition and he will cost nothing.

with the sale of Insua we will need a quality leftback. that’s our main concern because we have a big hole to fill in the leftback slot. with the fee of insua Liverpool can go after Figueroa or Taiwo

  • stan howard says:

two players have been sold for about £10 million with one pre arranged addition on a free, £40 million worth of sales last season ? if mascherano goes that will be two seasons the yanks have milked us even if we soend 30 million.

  • farhan says:

Scharner will be a good addition and he will cost nothing.and get arda tudan he will be great for us and also sign ever banega or defour and sell MAsch he doest wants to play for us any more and play Aqua and either of the two in the midfield and play gerrard in a free role and we can shift him bach back in the midfield if requires and i hope the player Remy turns out to good player who is on his way to liverpool , i really hope we sign arda tudan and no nonsence player and we also sign a quality left back such as belhagi or taiwo and remember aly cissoko and we also give some youngsters some chances here and there

  • stan howard says:

amazing we have a manager who has recognised our weakest link right away (like all our opposition managers did )and intends to put it right buy buying a left back, insua and dossena were an embarrassment in that position.
