TWO Deals that indicate Roy is already in a power struggle

|

Liverpool fans would love to believe what the Anfield hierarchy says on important club matters, but the facts are they rarely speak the whole truth on any issue. The latest disclosure coming from the Reds is that the club have been in negotiations with Fiorentina about the sale of Emiliano Insua even before the appointment of Roy Hodgson.

It was stated after Rafa Benitez’s sacking that during the search for a new manager, no player would be sold until a person had been appointed. In fact, we have now learned that this was only a half truth as Yossi Benayoun came out at the weekend to state that his deal with Chelsea had already been finalised before Hodgson was appointed. Roy it seems, really had no say in the matter as Benayoun had already agreed terms and he could only rubber stamp the deal. Now, it seems another deal had already been authorised even before Hodgson’s arrival. Speaking about left back Emiliano Insua, the new Liverpool manager said to Radio Blu in Florence.

“I saw him play in the last three days and I like him both as a player and on a personal level. However, talks with Fiorentina started before I got here, so I don’t know how advanced they are. I cannot say if Insua will stay at Liverpool or not. I’ll have to discuss that with the club.”

Talks had obviously already been sanctioned by the Liverpool board and it will be interesting to see how Hodgson deals with this situation. If he wants the player to stay he must fight his corner. I certainly don’t think that after getting his first big job in England after 34 years in management, he is going to lay down without a fight.

Certainly, I have not been Insua’s biggest fan over the past season but it was his first season of first team football at aged 21, and he could be a useful reserve full back for the coming season. If Hodgson rates him as a player, like Benitez did, then there must be a player there who is good enough for the Liverpool squad, even if not for the first eleven. Although finances are tight and player sales will be needed to raise cash for new players, with Insua the only senior left back at the club, there is no real reason to sell him unless the Reds have two left backs lined up to fill the gap.

The new Premier League home grown quota system can’t be used as an excuse either because as Insua has been at the club since the summer of 2007, he would be classed as home grown. Whoever has determined to enter into negotiations then must have done it for pure financial reasons, and with Hodgson assured that no players would have to be sold because of the club’s financial state, he must get a guarantee from the board that he has the last say on transfer dealings.

With such things going on at the club, it makes it harder to believe anyone on the board, as well as Martin Broughton when he says that there is a concerted effort to ensure that the sale of the club will be sooner rather than later, and that the winning bid will be the one in the best interests of the club rather than the largest offer. In regards to player sales, let’s hope that this is not a worrying trend for the future.

I stopped beleiving any of the lies that come out of our club along time ago, I hope Insua stays, but if not then its vital that any money from player sales goes into the transfer kitty.
I can’t help but believe it will disappear into the pockets of our (hopefully soon gone) owners though

i cant stand the present set up but insua is not good enough for liverpool fc, nor is ngog (yet), or el zar, perhaps kenny pointed these obvious facts out, benyoum has been trying to get away at every transfer window its money he’s interested in, rafa was a good excuse.

From the moment a campaign against a defiant or non-compliant Benitez was allegedly let loose by Purslow, probably on orders from the two American clowns, it was obvious they will look for an obedient servant who will not resist the sale of club assets in order to keeo his dream job. It should never be left to unscrupulous low life creatures like Purslow to decide which players to buy or sell. That is what annoyed Benitez. Roy has a golden opportunity to show a strong character with the help of supporters. The management CANNOT afford to sack him at this stage. He should either demand his first choice players or make it public if he does not get them. Supporters have a right to know the truth. Nothing short of new owners and a decent human being as chief executive can take us forward. I have given up my club credit card, will not buy a new shirt and not attend a single game until “all change” at Anfield. All can be restored after that.

with the board reported to be negotiation a deal to sell Lucas also, looks like the real truth is coming out.The current board cold not tell the truth if it bit them in the nuts. That would be 3 players being sold without the managers say so. That would not happen at UTD or at LFC in the past, sad sign of the times at LFC. Lets see if the money is given to the manager to buy replacments. Also I hope some of the names being linked with LFC is just gossip and do not come true. YANKS OUT AND CLOSE THE DOOR BEHIND YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE!! GONNA BE A MASSIVE PARTY THE DAY THE VAMPIRES LEAVE OUR CLUB, ANYONE GOT SOME GARLIC AND A WOODEN STAKE?

If We were living in the age of French Revolution, Gilett and Hicks would have been guillotined.

“insua is not good enough for Liverpool Football CLub”: I totally agree.
    Leiva is a joke.
Not a great lose for Liverpool.
Roy Hodgson is simply not interested in poor players like Leiva, Insua.
They are simply average overrated players under Benitez’s regime so ROy has not need to fight these deals.

in the hope that someone from the club reads these postings, can i offer my services free, momo sissoko came to play for us, a good player but he had no idea how to kick a ball with pace power or accuracy, two years later he left still not able to do these simple things and robbie fowler was on the books, he could have sorted that out in one training session. the point is there are lots of other simple but oh so important things that need putting right with several of our players, dossena ran side on down the line with the opposition wide men, a pull back left him stranded and off balance this often cost us dearly, the point is he left still doing the same thing, nobody put it right. here is a starter, babel is so scared of getting injured he challenges for a header arse first, the result is five out of ten he gives a foul away, the opponant wins four of the other five and the other one usually goes out for a throw in. please forgive my indulgence in simple common sense.

sorry for hogging this tonight this my last one as it is topical and true, my brother had a place near santander some years ago and he used to watch them play, he wrote to gerard houlier about buying yossi benyoum, houlier told him by letter, our scouts watch lots of players then took no notice, we would have paid a fraction of what we did pay, got years of service and made a large profit when he left because as we know he would have left.

  • RR says:

Our problems are not from the club, they are from the gossip forums.

This is pure assumption and NOTHING more.

I believe these players wanted to go when Rafa was in charge, the real problem behind the clubs demise, Roy had no hand in these sales or potential sales as they were about Rafa’s management.

Both Insua and Benny were rumoured to be going when rafa was still complaining about no quality, so i put this down to rafa and his business, not the club or Roy. Benny had agreed with rafa to go before he left and his recent remarks clarifying this situation!

If we as fans keep believing gossip and assumption then we disrespect our great club.
I prefer to step away from assumption and gossip and wait to see what really happens.

    Great season ahead

  • Gaga says:

Rafa i believe did not have the respect of the players every one thinks he had. Especially after the madness with alonso for barry. Again rafa i believe a complete fool for comparing alonso to barry but hey what do i know 😉 Benni i thought was a decent addition to the sqaud, the problem is who do we replace him with? Lfc are broke and thats an understatement.

There are a great deal of dead wood at the club, and you must blame rafa for bringing in so much rubbish which only causes more problems and a bigger wage bill for lfc.

I dont believe for one minute our top management would sell our most prized assets when they’re trying to attract a suitable investor 🙂 unless of course everyone up top wants to secretly make lfc a sunday league team 🙂

  • Bill says:

I dont understand what all the fuss is about,we discussed this some weeks ago,the parasites on the board, get a yes man in as manager, sell all our assests,we get relegated happy days for Broughton (chelsea) and Purslow(devils own)

  • Frank says:

Bill, you said it, there little else to say.

  • Helland says:

The thing is, the board may look to offload a lot of non-high profile players to ensure more money for H and G. For a potential buyer the lack of these players wouldn’t affect the price of the club. Therefor Torres and Gerrard probably will not get sold, to ensure that the club is worth more. The bottom line question is how do the americans get the most money in total? By offloading “unsignificant” players (and keeping the money) and keeping big name players such as Gerrard and Torres. The reputation of the club alongside these high profiled players will ensure that they get a high price for the club. And forget about finding “the right owners”. It’s a myth.

  • GBH says:

All of the deals and negotiations you mention were first instigated by Benitez as was the Mascherano situation. You are stirring up trouble without having a clue.

  • Earl says:

For stan howard. Have been thinking for many years that the club scouts should have a web site where fans could report “interesting” players. OK they might get loads of crap suggestions but if you just got ONE gold nugget it would be well worth the effort to comb through the inputs!!

  • Casper says:

Thats not a powerstruggle. What a naive conclusion by David Tully.
Roy have to say that he likes the player in case he’s not sold and he’s staying. The price will drop if he’s not wanted. No decent manager would keep him though, cuz he’s not Liverpool material. Same story bout Lucas.

  • samuel charles says:

bottom line insua would be good to keep as 2nd /3rd choice, but as with everything under these clowns, the two bit con men from usa, everything is a mess. yossi was ok, but hardly ever showen up. he wanted away every year and for me it was getting boring, sell reira too, the mouthy shite, sell babel, just not doing it!, sell that crap el zhar and sell degen too, why he ever was at the club even on a free was a disgrace! its clear we need players and at least 4 good ones to go into the first team, and then we need 3 / 4 team players to help out,its a mess and why hodgson took the job under the two con men i will never know.

  • samuel charles says:

ANYONE FOR WARNOCK, BRINH HIM BACK TO THE CLUB? WOULD BE CHEAP AND CHEAPER THAN MOST OTHER LEFT BACKS, HE IS NOT LAHM BUT HE IS THE BEST IN THE PREM AT WHAT HE DOES, YES THERE ARE BETTER BUT HE IS A GOOD PLAYER, KNOWS GERRARD AND THE SET UP AND IS ENGLISH AND CAN PLAY DOWN THE WHOLE LEFT FLANK.? WHAT WOULD HE COST 8 MILL?

  • rassell says:

get a life, these were fringe players and should be shot off, yossi wanted to leave anyway and insua isn’t good enough…..yes i really hope the money is reinvested in the squad.

Looks like torres won’t be leaveing who will buy him for the price we’re asking for knowing his medical history…well well real telling gerrad he is too old gues he ain’t leaving either.

We have a very good necleus of players and with the adition of a couple of wingers and a striker we will do well once again….

But articles like these need to STOP right now, these kind of wind up articles create segragation and only create anomosity at the club, this is not the time. We been through a very rough ride and its time to all get behind our team and support them, only way forward.

  • Vinny says:

To Samuel Charles, why sell Insua, who meets the home-grown quota by the way, for 4/6m and buy Warnock who would cost us upwords of 8m? That is really bad business to me. Insua is still 21 yrs where Warnock is 29 yrs old. Doesn’t make footballing sense either. We will not find a better LB for under 5m that meets the home-grown quota so why are we selling him? It sounds like guys who don’t care about the club are making the decisions. And what about Ayala? He is a good young defender that will also meet the home-grown quota as well but we haven’t offered him another contract with a year left but instead sent him on loan back to Spain. So is that what we do now? We buy young players, train them and then just let them leave for free?
