Why our song needs to be adhered to this season

|

“When you walk through the storm hold your head up high and don’t be afraid of the dark, at the end of the storm there is a golden sky and sweet silver song of the lark.” Indeed these are words of courage and hope. Looking back at the history of Liverpool FC, it is abundantly clear that we are the most decorated club in English football. There has been so many legends of this great football club and I do believe that there are many more in the making. We all have stories of our favourite Liverpool Football moment with myths and superstitions alike. The fact that every football club has its own legends does not make them comparable in anyway to the grandeur of a Liverpool FC. We could go on and on and name iconic, legendary players, managers, fans and even our most famous song, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ This makes Liverpool FC like no other and should certainly be celebrated as such. Every time in a club’s history when there is a managerial change this is met by either some level of optimism or scepticism. However, the meaning and significance of our great song should in-fact remind us of the pledge we make when we decide to become a fan of this great club.

The song signifies support and comradeship, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ originated back in 1945, taken from a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Carousel. In this song the essence behind the words is one of comfort and encouragement. It depicts a wife saddened and distraught when her husband killed himself. This song quickly became a hit in Britain and subsequently rose to number one on the charts. It was ideally adopted in the early 1960’s by Liverpool FC and stuck with us here after.

As a fan I am saddened by what I saw last season with supporters criticising our hard working players. This certainly is not in-line with our theme song and one would think that a true fan who pledges allegiance with Liverpool FC would never leave our players or managers to ‘walk alone’. A true fan shows that at all cost he supports his team through all circumstances. Looking ahead to the start of this season, it is the duty of the fans (true fans) to play their part by coming together in solidarity and standing behind our players and walk on, walk on, with hope in their hearts and ‘you’ll never walk alone.’

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

“Supporters cricising our…. players”. Maybe on internet forums, but by and large, the support our players get at Anfield and particularly, away games is excellent. The few cretins who booed Lucas were made to look stupid by the good displays he put in and the brilliant vocal support he got. The only supporters who count and have a say, are those who go to the match. Everybody else is entitled to their opininon, but that’s all it is.

    I couldn’t agree more!
Liverpool’s never been about the fast buck (no pun intended), Patience, spirit and togetherness are what makes our great club special… It sets us apart from many of today’s glory hunters, it’s something we should hold onto!
So we finished 7th last year. Does that constitute a crisis!!?
Of course it’s not good enough but let’s get a grip, many clubs suffer far worse every season, season after season!
We’ve got a chance to make amends, starting with Arsenal at Anfield!
Let’s do like the man says and get behind the team.
    C’mon Liverpool!!

    YNKA.
