Would this Irish international be Yossi’s ideal replacement?

|

After Yossi Benayoun’s exit from Anfield, would Fulham’s Damien Duff be the ideal replacement on the left wing for Liverpool?

The Irish International was a Hodgson signing from relegated Newcastle two years ago and he repaid Roy’s faith in him with some scintilating displays for Fulham last season. He helped Fulham reach The Europa League final last season and his crossing ability and goals would be a valuable asset to Liverpool in the season ahead.

It is believed that he would be available for around £5 million and I am sure the Irish winger would jump at a chance to join his former manager at his favourite boyhood club at last.

David Silva last year, Damien Duff this

No wonder people think we’re sliding into mediocrity

  • steve mcauley says:

i don’t think a fit duffer would let anyone down!
milktruck, you need to be realistic mate, we can’t compete with city, no one can

  • barry says:

First Glen Whelan now Duffer , Jasuzz we are Fu&k$D

  • Daz says:

Why say things like this? Maybe 5 years ago yes but not now…

Anyway whats this about talks being at an advanced stage with Chelsea over Torres joining them? Check out the Chelea mad web site..

    I think this is terrible!

I thought Hodgson was not allowed to sign Fulham players as part of the deal that took him to Anfield.

    NO.

  • LeroyB says:

    No he would not!

Why replace Benayoun? – He didnt win us anything. Don’t get me wrong, he was one of our better performers last term but we need to bring in fresh players with fresh ideas. Joe Cole is a perfect example. Scott Parker would be a great addition also, as would Stephen Ireland. Masch & Lucas’s fees would cover all three signings.

We still need a left-back – Insua simply doesn’t cut the mustard! Get Stephen Warnock back!

Then a striker – Klose wouldn’t cost a fortune and he’s in great form. Maybe £5m? He’s got 2 good years left in him.

I’d also like to see Martin Kelly, David Amoo & Dani Pacheco given extended runs in the first team this year. You know what they say…if they’re good enough, they’re old enough and these three ARE good enough.

Arda Turan – Not that hard a question , we should spend more time thinking about a LB as LW should be a no brainer!!!!!

  • Kamster says:

We need Arda Turan for left wing, Taiwo for left for left back, Pacheco can play in the hole with Torres, We have signed Jovanovic as back up striker, Shaun Wright Philips (worth a shout around £8-10m) on the right wing. Sell Mascharano to Inter for £30m and get Cambiasso in return for £15m. We have £12m from the owners, £15m from Mascharano, £4m from Insua, £10m from Skrtl – £41m (Hopefully another £10m from the deadwood – Lucas – £6m-8m and Degen £2.5m) that gives us £51m. Buy Arda Turan 12m, Joe Cole on a free or Wright Philips £10m, Taiwo £6m, that leaves £39m or £29m (if we pay for Wright Philips) for a quality striker and defender – Germany’s Mehmet Ozil and there Centre Half looks quality, Gyan from Ghana and Suarez from Uraguay would all be good acquisitions. Torres and Gerard would see Cambiasso, Turan, Cole or Wright Philips, Taiwo and a quality Centre Half / Striker.

a fit Duff is better than Benayoun, if liverpool got him on the cheap he would be a great squad player

  • Juan says:

Duff rejected the chance to join Liverpool for 5 million when he left Chelsea to join Newcastle. That was his mistake and lack of ambition back then. I dont think he should be given the same opportunity again.

Also he is injury prone and nearly past his best.

Duff is better than Benayoun?? – i know everyone has a right to voice thier opinions but really some of the comments on here are mental!

Duff? SWP? have you all already accepted the fact we are aiming for a mid table finish?

  • Karim says:

when i saw the link i thought they were talking about McGeady! Not Duff. he is past it!

  • chris says:

No mention of Gia Assulin ?
He is available for free and Aiden Mcg from Celtic.
With all the talent barsa are bringing in there has to be some players leaving worth a look,

  • andy says:

after the world cup disaster, surely my beloved club cant implode
and sell torres gerrard and co mid table here we come money talks again crazy wheres loyalty cum in to it

  • m kop says:

Duff is not a bad player but it’s not really preparing for the future with this transfer is it?
I’d rather see if Hodgson can make a player out of Babel.
I’d want younger signings. Does anyone knows what happend to Victor Moses, he was mentioned once as a possibility?

  • a.finnigan says:

i thought mcgeady not duffer mybe 2002 yes but waste ov money lol a winger with no pace and always injured mcgeady 10m, balatelli + cambi for mash now do the deals

  • Andy says:

Sorry past it, not fit enough and what on earth was the author smoking when he said Duff was a boyhood Liverpool fan, he wasn’t he supported that filth down the east lancs road. As for Victor Moses he went to Wigan in Jan and hasn’t done much at all.

  • Fitzy says:

Listen if we got duff on the cheap, take it! We shud of got him when fulham got him with his experience & ability to come on & do something. He might be past & all that, but he’s still more effective than all them clowns on our payroll such as riera and babel. All we need realistically in defence is a left back, someone mentioned taiwo, looks decent, possibly Bastos as well from Lyon, then we need wingers, arda turan, good shout, I liked that Sanchez for chile, quick & direct.. What Liverpool need to do is get back to making the squad bigger again, big Lads in and players with pace, I’d take klose on a cheeky 2 year deal, cambiasso is a good replacement or masch, I’d prefer that Eva banegra from Valencia cos he’s only bout 7-8m and only 23-24.. Or get both, and another winger would be that muller, let dirk go to Milan and that will fund most of the fee for him… And I’d take a punt at that cardoza fom Mendoza, might get him bit cheaper now cos of his miss at world cup, think he’d be a handful.. U look at all them players your looking bout £60m and with the sale of masch £30m, kuyt £12m, already sold yossi for £5.5, plus we got bout £6-7m from January from ponytail and dossena… Shud be able to afford this even with our sh*t budget!

What a total load of old cobblers, what part of HODGESON WILL NOT GO BACK TO FULHAM FOR ANY PLAYERS, IT IS PART OF HIS AGREEMENT WITH FULHAM!! When are you people going to get that through your thick heads??? Then all the armchair managers are in here buying and selling half the squad. GET REAL YOU BALLOONS!!
