How the “team” will be Roy’s biggest weapon this season

|

News about a potential takeover have got many Liverpool fans excited in recent days, with the prospect of further reinvestment in the squad before the transfer window closes. Whether or not substantial funds are available for Roy Hodgson, we do know that he wants to add one or 2 more players to the current squad.

New signings don’t always contribute as expected. When Robbie Keane arrived, everyone thought this was a smart bit of business. However when Fernando Torres arrived, nobody could have imagined how successful he was to be!

When adding a player to a new team, not only should the qualities of the player be assessed but also what he brings to the team, on and off the field. A good team is more than the sum of its parts. No matter how much money we may have to spend, any transfer should be the right person, not necessarily the most talented or expensive.

Research into productivity suggests that to have a good team, you need a variety of personality types, some leaders, others workers, creative people, specialists or finishers. Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win premierships.

Liverpool have two great examples to learn from if substantial funds are to be invested. Man City and Chelsea have made many mistakes in the transfer market. The likes of Shevchenko, Robinho and Juan Sebastian Veron all go to show that excellent players don’t always make excellent transfers.

Any new signing should fit into the current culture of the club. Stevie G, Carra, Torres, Kuyt and Pepe, are our leaders on and off the pitch. The signings of Joe Cole, Danny Wilson and the re-signing of Fabio Aurelio should all be excellent transfers. These players seem to closely fit with the attitude, style and ambition of our current team leaders.  Kenny and Roy are pulling the strings, and heading in the right direction. Let’s hope they are given a good chance to see their vision prosper.

what happened to damien plessis, kristian nemeth and nabil el zhar?? why aren’t these players playing?

  • monkeyboy says:

el zhar ? plessis ? not good enough mate. more opportunities for younger players would be good , can pacheco play left of midfield??? he could be good on the left?

  • Eric says:

yea im expecting more opportunities for the younger players like pacheco and kelly but i thought maybe kristian nemeth would get a chance too since big things were expected of him when he first arrived. and on top of that, he played in pre-season the season before and was then loaned to AEK athens. thought maybe he’d be in the first team by now but im quite disappointed hodgson didn’t give him a change to show us what he can do.
