Il Corriere dello Sport newspaper in Italy is reporting that Liverpool chief scout Eduardo Macia has been in Italy in recent days holding meetings with various Italian clubs. Macia has been identified by many in Italy as Liverpool’s de facto director of sport after he held discussions with Pantaleo Corvino of Fiorentina over the sale of Emiliano Insua . He then, according to the paper, held talks with Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta over the sale of Christian Poulsen before he got back in touch with to Inter Milan yesterday about Javier Mascherano. Il Corriere dello Sport believe that Macia told Inter officials in a phone conversation that the Reds are prepared to start negotiations after finding his replacement in Poulsen. Macia has now returned to England presumably to have discussions with Roy Hodgson.
