Italian Press: Palermo to raise bid to £7m for Reds midfielder

|

According to Datasport in Italy, Palermo are preparing an initial bid of £5million for Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas. The fee could rise to as much as £7million if negotiations progress well and Datasport believe that Palermo are aiming to begin official talks soon over a move. Earlier this week their director of sport Walter Sabatini confirmed the club’s interest in Lucas:

“He is a very strong player and I really like him, but to talk about negotiations at this stage is inaccurate.”

According to Football Italia though, Liverpool have an asking price of £8million for the 23 year old and it remains to be seen whether Palermo will offer that much for the player.

hey dude lucas passes side ways and backwards because he was told to by a very negative manager dont no if you ever played football dude but you follow what your manager tells you to do and rafa told him so dont blame the lad blame the manager he coached him played him and gave him his tatics lucas was touted by rafa as a player in the stevie g mold when we signed him he has been allowed to play like stevie g once in the quarter final of the eurpoe league he was outstanding scored a good goal and was then ordered back behind the ball by rafa so dude i no you love the club but some times mate you need to see the big picture ie why did we have two defencive midfielders for the last three years was it that rafa didnt trust the back four or was he negetive ?

I think Lucas is under-rated. I think he is suffering for a poor season a couple of years ago when he was about 20 and was the replacement for Xabi Alonso. That was unfair on him! He was one of our better players last year when he was played consistently in midfield. Not many players from last season can claim to have consistently played well and that’s why we finished so low. As for Roy Hodgson…..it was refreshing last night to see Stevie playing back in the middle, alowing others to play themselves, instead of always needing to find Gerrard in his centre forward role as he spent most of last year. Pacheco….really excited about him over the next couple of seasons…. and Joe Cole…excellent. If we can have Gerrard and lucas playing as old school central midfielders chipping in with 15 goals between them and getting the other 6 attacking players attacking with freedom…..back in the top 4 at least this season.

Lucas is a hugely underrated player for us. If we sell him, I’ll be deeply dissapointed, there are plenty of players before him I’d rather see go, deadweight like Plessis, Degen, Spearing, El Zhar.

Lucas isn’t Mascherano or Alonso, he’s Lucas. Let the boy be the player he can be and show some support for the club and it’s players.

Some idiot has said Lucas is the worst midfielder in the top four? Earlier comment? How many games have you been to son?
Are we remembering Owen Hargreaves when you say that comment?
Lucas is underated… give the lad a chance with Woy and lets see if a forward thinking manager can help him out a little by not making him sit back tackle and pass sideways…. just remember sometimes you have to do what the boss says and if Rafa was saying tackle win and pass to Gerrard then thats what you do…. He did very well last season.
Kuyt.. keep him also… I have never seen a foreign player sweat blood for his team like he does….
P.S Cole looks amazing addition! and the Jovanovic! Come on Redmen!

I doubt we will see much happen to the likes of Lucas, N’Gog, Babel and Kuyt. I for one am happy for them to remain in the squad this season.
Without a crystal ball to know how much we should expect to be made available to Roy post any change of ownership, I can only assume the squad needs to satisfy its minimum 8 homegrown in a squad of 25 (excluding any number of under 21s from wherever), so at least a couple of Englishmen are needed.
Carlton Cole? Scott Parker? Paul Konchesky? Luke Young? Shaun Wright Phillips? Ashley Young? James Milner? Lee Cattermole?
All are either not up to the standard you’d really like or ridiculously overpriced.

I am guessing we need more attacking width and striker support (if Insua and Aurelio staying)

    Inbound:
    Roy Hodgson £2m
    Danny Wilson £2m
    Joe Cole free
    Milan Jovanovic free
    Jonjo Shelvey £1.7m
    Christian Poulson £6m
    Loic Remy £13m
    Carlton Cole £10m
    Shaun Wright Phillips £7m
    Total £41.7m

    Outbound
    Yossi Benayoun £5.6m
    Albert Riera £3.4m
    David Martin £1m
    Mikel San Jose £1m
    Dodgy Degen £1m
    Moaner Mascherano £30m
    Nabil el Zhar £1m
    Damien Plessis £1m
    The Greek?
    Emilano Insua?
    Total £44m

That would leave us with a squad of something like:
    Homegrown (6 out of 8): S G, J C, J C, G J, C C, S WP,
    Overseas: (16/17) P R, F T, D A, M S, D K, A A, R B, M J, M R, L, D C, C P, L R, F A, E I?, S K?
U21s: incl. N’Gog, Spearing, Pacheco, Kelly, Shelvey, Wilson, Ayala, Darby, Nemeth, Eccleston, Dalla Valle, Amoo….

Bunches of softies, man. You guys want to keep this player and that player (just becoz they been with us for some time). And You guys want to buy more stars players.. end up we like Man City with 39 players and have to think who to ‘retrench’. My opinion: Lucas not a bad player. If we are aiming back to top four, keep him. But if we are going for the title, please sell him. YNWA
