Miller: Rafa had too many “yes men” and we could have had Ronaldo

|

Former Liverpool first team coach, and now manager of AIK Solna, Alex Miller has stated that he believes Rafa Benitez’s downfall was because he didn’t have anyone around him to keep him in check. He told the Sunday Mail:

“I don’t want to talk myself up but people don’t realise the contribution I made at Liverpool. The rest of the people around Rafa were yes men and massaged his ego. That’s the way he liked it – he killed himself.”

In the interview, Miller also revealed that as Chief Scout he told Liverpool about Robin van Persie when he was a 16 year old at Feyenoord, and also that he mentioned the talents of Cristiano Ronaldo to the Reds 18 months before Manchester United bought the player.

i agree with voland, if all liverpool can manage against a man city team who during the summer bought an entire squad and had not yet gelled is a 3-0 loss then there are grim days ahead for roy hodgson. horribly, i have grown quite used to this disapointment, which is not what i expect from a mighty ( or rather miserly!) club like liverpool football club. coca cola championship here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙁

To: lfc4life Dont know what i’m talking about? Ask Benayoun, Riera, Alonso why they left? Then ask youself how did a team with Mascherano, reina, Torres & Gerrard finish 7th?

Gentleman, Roy will do his job. Tactically I do not think he is as strong as Rafa. With the rising standard of the PL, this will see us lose more games than last year. Roy is probably a more likeable and rational manager than Rafa, but I don’t imagine that the players will have the same belief as they did the year before last, Rafa’s greatest season. With the resources Rafa was given I think he did admirably. I look forward to the day when, as prophesied, Rafa will return to LFC. Hopefully then he will be given money and couples with his tactical genius we will become the dominant Liverpool of old
