With the start of yet another Premier League season just a day away, managers are busy applying the final touches to their teams. It’s time to look at the realistic chances Liverpool Football club have of winning the title or even challenging for a top four finish. How different is our position now from that of last season? Have we done enough to improve things at least for a top four finish? As a supporter I am filled with renewed hope and I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming campaign with great expectation.
However, let us not get carried away; let us put things into its correct perspective. We are definitely two to three quality players short in my opinion with the start of the season not far off. I would think that part of Roy Hodgson’s negotiating tactic in getting Joe Cole to join Liverpool and subsequently assisted him in keeping Fernando Torres is the fact that he would buy additional players of quality.
Liverpool as it stands are in need of at the least a quality winger and a striker, not just a back up striker but a striker who could come in and command a starting place alongside Torres.
So far in the pre-season friendlies Hodgson spoke of his satisfaction with how things are unfolding in training and on the transfer front. One can’t help but wonder what will happen come Sunday and with the possibility of Torres not being available for the first couple of games. Surely he must have plans of bringing in another attacking player/striker before the end of August to add to Poulsen coming in for Mascherano. Whatever are his plans, it must be executed fast as time appears to be his worst enemy.

Headline = “Time is our worst enemy if we are get these players” – what does that mean?!
I cannot believe there is no quality back up striker yet and the club have failed to strengthen the wide areas.
Letting Maxi go is a mistake and if anything the club should be rebuilding with young players.
My fear is the next owner will have to fork out coz Roys targets are about to retire.
“Poulsen coming in for Mascherano” – Poulsen is not a replacement for Mascherano, according to Hodgson.
“Maxi go is a mistake” – Maxi hasn’t been let go, he even played in the Europa League 2nd leg against Rabotnicki – does that not make him cup tied? i’m not to sure…
I agree we need an out an out winger, a striker and a left back and i’m hoping for Ashley Young, Carlton Cole and Maynor Figueroa who are all thought to have been tracked by Hodgson.
i am still adamant bout wayne bridge…roy needs to get him..he fills d bill perfectly…
nd v need a winger..strikers, v cn cope wid..

Get rid of the dead wood eg Mash,Babel,Ngog,Aquilani and possible Kuyt if need be, to rase the funds for Naymar and Ganso.
With the strike force we would then have we would be talking of winning the league not just finishing in the top four the year.
Next year would be skys the limit.
You can say wht you like but I assure you that headless muppet kuyt will be played every game and Lucas nearly as much. We will never win anything of note with either or both of these average players in our side. Maxi is far and away a better player than Kuyt, a clever footballer who links up play so well. Please God let Woy have some common sense!!!
I don’t think we need to worry about the quality of players bearing in mind many of those helped us finish 2nd a couple of seasons ago.
The players are there, the difference is the manager and anyone can see that with the departure of Benitez hopefully so to does the negative ineffectual method of football his style belied.
The signs for positivity are there. Cole is a great signing and the complete opposite to the player Benitez would have signed. Perceiving the attitude coming out of Anfield from the players I think we should put the past well and truely behind.
CMON THE REDS!!!!!!!!
still to go are itandge, el zhar, plessies, nemeth, and cavalieri. that would still bring in around 7 mill, sell mascherano too for around 24 – 28 mill say happy medium for around 25 mill and then we have over 32 mill to spend.
left back,
front man and
