“I was very proud a club like Liverpool were interested”

|

Marseille manager Didier Deschamps has revealed that Liverpool approached him in the summer before they appointed Roy Hodgson as manager. The former French international said:

“I was very proud a club like Liverpool were interested in me. But the timing was not good. I was engaged with Marseille, the players and the fans, and I could not leave them two days before the restart for pre-season. I was extremely pleased and happy but I decided to stay and continue my adventure with Marseille.”

Deschamps belived the interest from Liverpool was serious:

“We had a long discussion.”

Makes you wonder who would’ve been the better, more progressive choice for us. That said, why do players and managers that were approached by us feel the need to tell the world about it after the fact? It helps nobody, and in all probability, destabilises the current management/regime.
