Roy: These players might not get another chance

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes that some of the senior players who played in the Carling Cup third round defeat to League Two side Northamption will have to convince him that they deserve another chance in a Liverpool shirt. Speaking after the humiliating defeat he said:

“They (the players) will have to do a lot of work to get themselves back into favour, but it’s early doors for some of them. Some of the players who played tonight are still quite young. But it’s enough for me to say I am very disappointed and you can see that on my face. I did not expect to be sitting here having lost a penalty shootout, which is the worst possible way of losing matches I can assure you. I have lost a UEFA Cup final on penalties, so I know how bitter they are, what a lottery they are and what damage they can do to the players who miss them. It’s one game. It’s a very disappointing game but there are lots more games to play and I would expect these players to be very, very disappointed about their performance tonight, to learn from it, to bounce back and if they’re going to be Liverpool players, to kick on from this very low point in everyone’s career.”

Roy believes it is currently a very difficult time at the club during this transitional period:

The fact is the Carling Cup is a competition which we are capable of doing well in and this is the third round, playing against a lower league club, so if it doesn’t result in a victory it is a very negative thing. It’s one of many setbacks we’re facing at the moment and it’s a tough period to work and live through, but we will work and live through it. We will survive it and get better. I will learn an awful lot from this defeat tonight about an awful lot of people. It’s not just myself who will be disappointed and upset that things didn’t go our way – there are lots of players who played tonight who will be disappointed as well.”

ffs Roy…….stop blaming everybody else. You chose the team!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Andrew says:

I think we can say the same about the manager. You are not blameless in this Roy, you picked the team, the formation and the subs bench which was severely lacking in experience.

Rafa would never have hung his players out to dry like this.

  • daboy says:

Just a crap effort all round there will be a few players out of this game young or old following Roy out the door.

  • Paul says:

Stop moaning! its the carling cup ffs! Who cares!

Remember, Roy put a weakened team out against Bucharest a week ago and won 4-1! Im sure you werent moaning then!

If we beat sunderland and blackpool in the next 2 league matches we could be top 4!

  • RedMan says:

To be fair, we played aweful.

i wont blame Hodgson, because the team that he played were more than capable of winning even if it was weakened and changed.

the only thing i would of liked to of seen was a more experienced CM.

  • Ryan says:

Don’t blame Roy you muppets, the team on paper should have easily disposed of a lower league team like that…its the players who must take the blame…there are a few who dont derserve to wear the famous liverpool shirt!!

  • bl007 says:

One week it is complaining about not bleeding the young players.
And then when it happens, and they lose, it is blame the manager.
    Make up your minds.
Why can’t you support the team regardless?

  • Guy says:

To be fair though, play a weakened team but don’t be so naive as to think everything is going to go your way, have a plan B! Joe Cole missed 3 prem games through suspension so give him a place on the bench. after 70minutes of that drivel we should have been looking to make a change! When we finally did make one in the 90th it was too late and we paid the price.

Playing the blame game is not what we should be doing at the start of the rebuild of our beloved club. Divided we fall comes to mind . Things have to be tested and mistakes learned from in order to make us great again …so people please stop being negative ( that encludes you Roy ) Once we get those two American liers out , then we can restructure and ship out the deadwood . Give it a season first .UP THE POOLS .

It’s the players who is not playing for Hogson. Benitez left when they felt rafa is holding them back with negative tactic deploy where they should push forward. The players taught when Roy came in, he will adopt more attacking football which we have abundance but it was even worst. Not just he adopt caution tactics, we r defending space when we don’t have the ball (so called “Zonal Marking”)…this gave opposition time to strategies their attack towards us coz we keep on backing up rather then pressing them. This would not happen under Rafe regime. i believed some of the senior players have gone lost…the way roy has adopted the tactic’s that make them go backwards…Roy should enhanced Rafa tactic’s not adopting it into perfection. Roy somehow left amoo in bench when is flying down the wings & shelvey creativity in the middle when r lack for the pass 5 league games…

what do i hear from this website! again, its someone else’s faults. its Rafa’s team etc etc.

Has any of you hear the joke of the 3 envelopes? Roy is on the second one–Blimey the first one did not last long (blame the previous guy), he is blaming the players.

why did a manager who has been to 11 jobs in 14 years or so take charge of my club? its sickening.

after a long days work, i wanted an early night, but hell no. I was so angry, i could not sleep.

and no guys. the ones who think Roy should go are right. spot on.
i am willing to pray anywhere. i hope he is our saviour, but he is Not.

What is Roy’s strategy? I mean for my club to win the league or get at least fourth?
he does not have one……never will. talks our players down. would have settled for a point againt birmingham etc. read his comments.

It offends me that some people still think he is the man for the job.
This man’s ability is simple. make an average team hard to beat. full stop-see fulham.
and dont give me the crap of the final. Fulham did not win on the road for months!!! anyone noticed that?

i feel sick at the way things are going.

  • Bryan says:

erion – how I agree with you – terrible I know but I feel like I’m in mourning.

  • bl007 says:

An awful lot of speculation going on here. Guess I am not so fortunate to know exactly what the players and manager are thinking this very moment.
This is a transition period; so even if Liverpool lose more games games it should not be too worrisome. Re-assess, re-evaluate come January, it is still too early to be slagging off the team just yet. Anyway YNWA for what it’s worth nowadays.
