I’m a great advocate of giving a manager time before he is judged, and a few weeks ago I was willing to give Roy Hodgson the time he needed to get it right. However, over the last few games he’s made more and more bizarre decisions, the way he talks in the press doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence either. The sad truth of the matter is that Liverpool Football Club is too big for Roy Hodgson.
I can totally understand why he took the Liverpool job, he’s not the youngest of managers and has never really achieved anything major in football, i think he felt that Liverpool was his last big chance of the lime light. No doubt he did a great job at Fulham, But, Liverpool are a completely different animal as Hodgson is now finding out. The demand for success (without being disrespectful to Fulham) at Liverpool is 10 times higher than Hodgson’s previous job.
We are 19th in the table and playing awful football. We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world and don’t have the defence to protect him. We have one of the best strikers in the world and give him no support on the pitch. Joe Cole was bought in to be the magic man that was going to provide Torres with the ammunition to score plenty of goals. However, Roy has decided to play him on the left, very bizarre. We have Martin Kelly who is a hungry very talented up and coming player who is a centre-back by trade but can do a fantastic job as a right back (when Johnson is injured), against Everton, Roy decides to play Carragher at right back instead. With all Carragher’s experience his legs are not what they used to be and as a right back you need to be up and down the wing.

Why is everyone complaining? We are playing an exciting brand of ‘hoof it up the field’. Ok we have been very unlucky with results but any fair minded person could see that we were too much for Everton and turned the bluenoses into our bitches. How can life be so cruel that we didn’t get a result after such a performance? Added to which Liverpool fans just have unreasonable expectations. Beating Birmingham was always going to be hard and I expected Northampton and Blackpool to be difficult opposition. Obviously we need to rest our star players ahead of the titanic clash with the mighty Blackburn. And you know if Manchester United come calling for Torres in January maybe that should be encouraged- after all I, for one, like Ferguson. So please none of this talk of Rijkaard- just look at his CV. Has he ever won the Swedish League? Or indeed any Scandivanian league where true managers cut their teeth.

Sack Hodgson now and replace him with Dalglish as manager and Phil Thompson as his No 2. Thompson is excellent at coaching and getting players to play football as he proved in the time he filled in for Houllier when he had the heart operation-for example the 6-0 away win at Ipswich. The reasoning in appointing Dalglish is that he knows the strengths and weaknesses of the current squad-he watches every game. Bringing in another outsider makes no sense-more points and games would be thrown away while this outsider would be determining the strengths and weaknesses of the current squad. Hodgson should be got rid of tomorrow because it is a certain defeat against Blackburn otherwise. We have to at least start winning the home games to have any chance of staying up. Any top 4 delusions should be given up. We need to go with Reina,Kelly,Skyrtel,Krzgriakos,Mavinga,Johnson,Gerrard,Shelvey,Agger,Cole,Ngog. Subs: Jones,Carragher,Wilson,Meireles,Amoo,Pacheco,Torres. We need to start pushing up and playing an offside trap and get the ball out to the wings thereby spreading the play and stretching the opposition defences.
