Finally some words from Roy that make sense

|

In some people’s eyes, this all but confirmed that Roy saw Liverpool as smaller club than United. The signing of players such as Paul Konchesky and Christian Poulsen had fuelled the feeling that Roy was content with mid table mediocrity by signing such mediocre players, but such comments from the horse’s mouth, really made some completely lose patience with the 63 year old.

Some others have also questioned his friendly relationship with rival manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. Many feel such relations between the two club’s managers should be frosty at best, in the form of the enmity that was apparent between previous manager Rafa Benitez and his United counterpart. The thinking being is just as the two clubs are vying on the pitch for trophies, the two managers should be verbally jousting off it. Any other set of relations could be seen as one manager deferring to the other. A perception that seemed to become reality when Roy refused to comment on Sir Alex Ferguson accusing Fernando Torres of diving in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to United.

The facts are that managers must defend their players at all times and you can bet your life that Bill Shankly would never have let Ferguson get away with such an accusation. So in many respects on this evidence, there is a case to be made that Roy really isn’t handling being Liverpool manager very well. My own feelings are however tempered by a few things. In regards to Fergie’s accusation of diving, rather than being an apparent act of deference to the United manager, what Roy was trying to do was to avoid a spat which he would believe would be propagated by the media and made into more than it was. He refused to comment because he is not a man who generally likes getting into scraps; a bloke who is perhaps too nice for the job of being Liverpool manager.

Even at 63 years of age, Roy Hodgson is still learning a great deal and is currently learning the hard way how to act as the boss of Liverpool FC. He is finding the media spotlight and the fans scrutiny difficult to fathom at the moment, and has not made it easy for himself. His words in the past have shown a clear lack of understanding of what the club sees itself to be and although the club is certainly currently going through a “transitional phase” as he says, he must also grasp that it is still Liverpool Football Club; it is expected to win and play good football in the process. He has struggled with both at the start of his reign, and lets hope his words on Reina are a good sign that he is learning that as a big club, we will never sell our prized assets to our rivals as we begin the slow ascent back to the summit of English football.

What Roy said yesterday about Pepe was all done for him too look good in the media for a change. He knows what weve thought of his comments and him taking too long to defend players like Torres from Fergus. I personally think Roy and Fergus planned this on purpose to make Roy look like he means business. Fergus knows Torres nor Pepe would never sign for Utd so he sewed the seed to help his pal Roy.

Win Lose or Draw, Show Roy the Door!!!!!!!!!……YNWA

    @zahid
damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t!! as for your conspiracy theory, WISE UP MAN!
i think roy hodgson should go because of his inability not because he considers slur alex a friend!

    • Zahid says:

@steve, although it looks like i want Roy out because of his friendship with Fergus thats far from it, hes the wrong man for the job full stop. He should go back to managing smaller clubs or retire.

As for my conspiracy theory i wouldn’t put it past them to do it, Fergus has the British media in his pocket and uses them as he wishes.

Atleast we agree on 1 thing Roy should jog on……YNWA

sorry roy it’s to late you have already lost the fans.

  • RedNProud says:

Every poll of Liverpool fans has resulted in a call for Roy to go. He’s a nice man but an average manager and certainly not a Liverpool manager.

Instead of raising his aspirations to match the club he’s reducing the aspirations to match his.

The fans see this and that is the reason that they want him to go.

  • Lars says:

Please stop whining like spoiled brats and stand up to the team and the gaffer. Roy is only an interim manager anyway. Let’s get into Europe and swap to Mourinho in the summer.

  • Zahid says:

Lars your seriously deluded if you think Mourinhos going to come to Liverpool, havnt you heard him in his interviews? he wants the utd job and wouldn’t do anything to ruin that dream, besides he also said hed go back to Chelsea, hed manager Arsenal etc just never Liverpool but he wouldn’t say why he wouldn’t.

    Hiddink would be ideal……YNWA

I heard Mourinho was in the equation for LFC job but it was given to Rafa. When he was at Chelsea he always seemed to have a problem with us. Remember them putting flags on the seats to try and get an atmosphere like we have at Anfield (in their dreams)

  • Alfred Wynne says:

We have to play more attacking football
so maybe4.3.3. makes more sence But we have
to get behind our team and the manager
    or nothing different will work.

  • tee somethang says:

roy go away.u are a man u fan.

  • dee says:

LFC in relegation Zone is outrightly unacceptable no matter d circumstance. Liverpool is not d only club dat changed coach dis season. Aston villa is not in d relegation zone @ least for now. Yes we have some players dat are not good enof but some team in d league can’t even boast of what we have n are in top 10. Roy has no excuse. Am not sure we can get 3 points tomorrow against bolton or @least play GOOD football.
