“It’s a compliment that they are interested in me”

|

Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente has expressed he is flattered by the interest being shown in him from Liverpool and other clubs:

It’s a compliment that they are interested in me, that means I’m doing things right.”

Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested in signing Llorente though, along with Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona, according to The People. 6ft 5ins forward Llorente has come on leaps and bounds in the last year and has a good record for Spain with 7 goals in 12 appearances. The paper believes that City have already made an enquiry about the Basque star with Bilbao but with the striker’s contract running out in 2013, Athletic’s president Fernando Garcia De Macua will be looking for offers around £30million, a fee that would almost certainly rule Liverpool out in the chase for the 25 year old.

Why does the figure rule out Liverpool? New owners in with some change to spare

I agree. We’re debt-free and in dire need of striking options. A top class Spanish international is not out of our reach and Llorente has been linked with us for longer than even City. The two Fernandos, understudied by Ngog would form an awesome partnership.

Because Liverpool got around 30 mln to spend and we also need another left back and left winger.

  • Eugene says:

How does anyone know what we’ve got to spend, who will be going out of the club, what young players might break through?

If we can’t compete for top drawer strikers we are not going to improve. Strikers cost the big dough and we need more than just one striker.

our new owners are winners and will be well aware they need to spend to start competing at the top level. i expect a chelsea style spending, lots of cash spent until we have a settled squad and then spending within our means!

not sure if Llorente is worth £30m though!
