The Daily Star Sunday has stated that one of Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson’s first priorities with his rumoured £30million transfer budget in January will be to spend a sizeable chunk on Benfica wing back Fabio Coentrao. Coentrao impressed for Portugal during this summer’s World Cup, alongside team-mate Raul Meireles, and Hodgson believes Coentrao could add extra depth to Liverpool’s defence and midfield. Originally a left winger, Coentrao converted to left back for Benfica with considerable success last season and helped the Portuguese club to the league title. He was then first choice full back for Carlos Queiroz for Portugal in South Africa.

that’s more like it! never mind the likes of chris brunt, coentrao is the calibre of player we need to be attracting but players like him won’t sign up for a relegation battle! the players we have need to knuckle down and make us attractive to potential signings!
Id like to think this was true hes a class act, but to spend a huge chunk of the budget on him i don’t think thats best idea like Rafa spent on Johnson. Maybe if he sells a few players then buy him, but i don’t see Roy being incharge when January comes around. The majority of the budget needs to be spent on atleast 1 if not 2 wingers and a striker(s)
coentrao would cost at least 20m leaving £10m for a striker? i dont think so.

Coentrao is just one example of a very good benfica team jesus jorge built, don’t know how his english is but maybe he should be considered as a potential manager??
He’s not long ago signed a new 5 year deal
Would be a good buy giving us pace and skill in that position but somehow I don’t see it happening but let us hope.Regarding the money available I thought Roy had the funds from the Mascerano sale to spend and add this to what the new owners will now provide we should have about 50-60 million to buy players is this wrong?
we made the mistake of buying an expensive full back instead of a top quality winger already – learn from that mistake and let’s not do it again plz…
good choise… coentrao like to run from 25 yard and cross a ball before the goal line… its a great game and will give torres.. joe.. gerrard ..maxi and mirales go strike very fast.. now we must get more one striker who can slide the ball to the net.. very pacy.. very prolific player like nistelroy or close..

if we could get him and play him for europe games to bed him into the club and make sure raul his best mate helps him then yes a great choice for left back, id still go with LAHM all day long can play also on both sides
