Prospective American owners to continue with Roy?

|

ESPN Soccernet believe that if the sale of Liverpool Football Club to New England Sports Ventures does go through then Roy Hodgson will continue on as manager. The website believes the manager’s situation has not been discussed as part of the deal to sell to NESV and Hodgson will be given money to spend in January. ESPN does believe though that if results don’t improve significantly in the coming months that the new owners may look elsewhere for someone to spend their money in the transfer window. Soccernet has speculated that Martin O’Neill would be in the running if a change of manager was required. With Liverpool languishing in 18th place after seven games with only six points, Hodgson has a lot to prove to his prospective new owners.

    New manager too.

  • Kaleem says:

The fact that Roy name was not discussed does not essentially mean continuity. Most probably status quo main remain till Dec. Once the transfer window opens and new players are pursued, a long manager is important. Roy has so far failed horribly with his worthless signings and equally useless othes he unsuccessfully pursued. His knowledge and ability to attract top players or talent from abroad seems very limited and that in today’s football is a massive handicap. If new owners pursued the likes of Hiddink, Rickard, etc that will be a very popular and an early statement of intent.

Well at the moment the real question is will they end up owning the club or are H and G holding aces?
All we can pray is this sale goes through.

  • SQ says:

Martin O’ Neill oh dear. What is it with these suits and their love for british managers?? Cant they pick someone by merit as opposed to nationality?

  • Dave says:

Ah well, it cant all be good news ..

i dont understamd why people are blamming roy

1)he managed to keep steve in the club

    2)he managed to keep elnino

    3)signed joe cole

and did the best he could wit the limited 7 million plus player sale cash (even thoug the owners took the huge part of cash which hodgson hard earned the all window which left him to bid for loaned players in the end…

Does Vinod go to Anfield? Does he pay to watch the worst football I have seen in 45 years? Does he like paying Poulsen to pretend to be a Liverpool player? Does Vinod look forward to Konchesky’s averageness? How about trying to understand Hodson’s tactics and sustitutions/ I expect her really enjoys Roy’s pathetic interviews?
    Probably not.
    Hodgson out!

Gerrard was never going to leave the club, from reports, he along with Carragher was part of the coupe that got Rafa removed. This is because he wanted to play centrally which Rafa never trusted him to do, and Rafa was right. Look at what is happening now.

It’s clear to anyone with football knowledge that Gerrard is tactically inept and often vacates his position to the detriment of the team. He is guilty of too many Hollywood balls often giving away possession. He would be better utilised in the hole in a free role, because he is probably the best instinctive player in the world. Unfortunately he lacks discipline, so it’s better to take that responsibility away from him, which Rafa did.

Torres might not be here very much longer because Hodgson does not play to Torres’s strengths. If we keep playing this way I will be surprised if Torres scores more than 15 goals this season.

Joe Cole is here simply because he was guaranteed 1st team football and a spot wherever he wanted to play.

Sorry, Hodgsons not the man for LFC

  • ken08 says:

Guys, can only agree with Vinod Gerrard is as guilty as anyone for giving the ball away, and had the nerve to say he was happy to play anywhere for England but not for Rafa in the early days??? Rafa MADE Gerrard whether he or we like it,and Cole WOULD have signed for anyone for first team footy, tho i am glad he is here, lastly,i want Rafa back at all costs even if we win nothing until he is free to come back. Roy has to go, his tactic is plainly awful and obvious, any team with an eye will play his team of the park. Most of players are alright apart Carra; how do you reason Carra is able to sign further 3 yrs contract with Roy but not Rafa who SMS Houllier. He has served Liverpool well but need to step down as a responsible lad and not let his ego mask his present ability. That is fact of footballer’s life. For Roy’s tactic; 2 banks of 4, sit back, non pressing, static 442 variant to succeed in the modern game is a pipe dream. First of all, many quality players(Torres vs Eto at Rafa’s Inter) whose joy are playing good football(4231 variant) would not hack it, frustrated, eventually sick of it. That leave average players no choice to adapt Roy’s tactic and with great determination alas Fulham might produce some result but mostly inconsistent. If Liverpool allow Roy to do the signing, I am afraid, some maybe genuine good players(Raul, Cole), his Blackburn’s ghost would revisit Anfield. His Blackburn with better players signed by him couldn’t heck it, won 1 in 14 games. Roy resigned and Blackburn relegated that season. Modern 4231 variant is a complex tactic only through years of study by learn managers(Jose, Anceloti, Alex, Rafa, Pellergini, Wenger, barca’s Pep, and list of top managers achieved success at top clubs), Roy 35 yrs of static 442 tactic would be dwarfed and in his own ego-maniac, self-proclaim comments, show that he would not care to understand 4231 and stick to his 442. As such expect him to defend his only-learned tactic to the extend that players who thrive on 4231 are overnight not good enough for him and to be blamed. I am sure Sky cronies(Jamie, Alan, Mark, Richard, etc.) can see it but they just can’t admit it as to protect their uncle Roy. So the easiest targets are those who actually could perform well under 4231. Their actions would put liverpool into abyss with Roy as their ‘fool’ and others, scapegoats. Sycophantics aplenty just look around. More balanced and truthful articles at tomkinstimes.com

Souness defends Roy, blames players, and far away Rafa would only mean when he looks at the mirror, he sees Roy. He is a legend of Liverpool but just like Carra(way better than Carra), as age caught up with him, thus playing days was over, his ego elevated by his legendary status led to his horrific managerial tenures at Liverpool. Listen to Roy’s comments of I and I only and the rest esp. the players are to blame is akin to Souness. His last comment to bring in more players show how oblivious of his own failure as a manager of Liverpool players, a lot of trash and some more. If you agree the current crops are trash then Rafa must be super-overachiever with this trash and Roy must be obviously quite useless as a manager. Bottomline is quality players needs quality tactic, Roy’s tactic, for all to see like a horror show, clearly trash. Incompetent Souness stands up for incompetent Roy and Roy would do the same for Souness as they are in fact the same. Average managers would sometime pull out great result but most of the time is inconsistent and luck may shine on Roy against Everton but does not mean he is right for Liverpool.

    HI
great news about the impending takeover, but this will not resolve the pathetic performances on the field. we need to improve immensely but this will never happen until we bring in a manager of strength ,and get rid of the dead wood now top of the list loud mouth carragher the worst player i have ever seen in 40yrs of supporting the reds.LUCAS,AURELIO,KOJAK KONCHESKY,POULSEN,BABEL,NGOG,MAXI,KUYT,THE GREEK, bring back aquilani, insua, nemeth, and player the youngsters ,and start afresh until we cull the deadwood i am afraid there will be no light at the end of the tunnel

@ DJ…THere is no point in blamming geerard for giving possession often…HE is the only talented skillfull creative player in the team so he always try to do somethin very creative or risky passes wen he gets the ball which at the end may not become very succesfull…Look at fabregas or lamp..they dont try a high risk pass everytime they get the ball..because they have other worldclass creative mind players in the team who can create or score goals often…so they tend to choose their passes accordingly

  • Joe Kelly says:

DJ & ken08 agree with your comments. I’m fed up being told Gerrard can turn a game. We all know he can but if he gave his all consistantly, he wouldn’t need to. He should, as captain, be demanding the team play better. The best way to do that is to play better himself.

  • dj says:

    Sorry Vinod you’re wrong

Gerrard’s responsibility in the midfield is to bridge the gap between the defence and attack. The only way he can do that is to be disciplined, but unfortunately he’s unable to do that because he can’t temper his enthusiasm. He then starts to leave gaps because he goes walkabout, sometimes making ridiculous passes while he doing it. This causes all sorts of problems for his team mates because he lacks game intelligence. A top class midfielder will bring out the best in his team mates, is Gerrard doing that?

Your assumption that his team mates are no good doesn’t wash. Do you know how many LFC players were at the world cup compared to other teams in the EPL, and some of them made it to the WC final as well?

You’ve got a lot to learn. Keep trying.

  • vinod says:

@DJ.Hey u still not understanding wt im trying to tell u..as u have mentioned gerrard is not a typical midfielder like xavi scholes fabregas or alonso who can control the tempo of the game with steady passes…hes kind of centre attackin midfielder..Agreed

BUT look at chelsea…lamp is out fore more than a mounth yet they score 4 to 5 goals every match

look at arsenal..in every game aresnal fowards get plenty of chances and they take one or two
(they ave got arshavin, nasri, wilshere who can fill the creative duties of fab to some extend

look at manu they dnt have a world clas midfielder other than scholes and still they mange to be title contedors

this all shows the quality f other players around a team other than just a world class midfielder..which liverpool lack

gerrard is playin in the middle of so many average players other thn torres and ie the reason livpool ws called a 2 man team..

he cant just pass to kuyt or jova or in the previous case to masch and sit in midfield thinkin they will create goals..just like lam and fab do fr chelsea and arsenal

he is the main man fr livpoool and he always try desperate to creaate or score goals wenever he gets the ball which is a very difficult task..once livpool sign another two or three wrld class midfielders (mata + turan ) u can see him spryin psses to them more often and controlling the game rather than simply trying to find torres whenever he gets the ball which he is currently doin now….got it???

  • dj says:

Vinod, you’re wrong again, Gerrard wants to play in the centre, therefore he will have to adapt to what is needed of a central midfield player. What I said is, he can’t do this because he is not disciplined enough. He will often make the wrong runs forward and then gets caught out of position. When he does this his passing become to flamboyant often losing possession, which allows the opposition to counter attack with him caught out of position. While playing in midfield he has a responsibility to defend and cover the runners from the opposition’s midfield, which is something he doesn’t do. Now my point is a simple one, take that duty away from him so he can be creative further up the field where he can cause damage in the opposition’s box which is where he’s most effective. This will help Torres, because we could play a high line with Gerrard floating in and out of those attacking areas which would put pressure on the opposition allowing Torres to score more goals which is what we are not doing now. This is what Rafa did because he understands you cannot vacate the midfield against modern highly coached teams that will often defend deep and wait for that one chance to cut you open.

Now Lampard is a very clever player and makes the right runs at the right times, but Chelsea is set up with a defensive centre midfield as well allowing the likes of Lampard and Essien to make those runs, but they are clever, they make sensible runs forward. They can do this because they play a higher line as a team. This is also done by Arsenal as does Man utd.

With regards players, if you look at the value of the current top squads you will see that they are far more valuable than Liverpool’s. Chelsea, Man City, Arsenals and Manu’s squads are worth in £300 millions bracket whereas Liverpool is around £120 millions. Now there is bound to be a difference in quality but that was almost always worked around with good tactical coaching and setup by Rafa. As you well know the squad has been asset stripped in the last three years and some of the great players we had have now been moved on without replacing them, but we still have very good player here and there is no excuse for the position we find ourselves in now other than bad coaching and poor tactics.

Gerrard is very important to LFC but it’s not all about him. A great player and captain will bring the best out in his teammates. Gerrard was poor last year, even Lucas was an all round better player last year. When we were good last year we were very good. Unfortunately we were hit with a lot of injuries which affected our season.

Vinod, I’m bored with you now. I will not answer your post again because you just don’t understand. You have very little knowledge of modern day football and all your ideas seem to be plagiarised from the red tops and sky sports. I have said too many on these pages, for all those LFC fans who can’t think for themselves keep quiet because you embarrass us.
