Spanish Press: Rijkaard letting Reds know he is available

|

Spanish daily Sport is reporting that Galatasaray coach Frank Rijkaard is sending out feelers to Liverpool and Ajax to let them know he would be interested in taking over if a managerial position becomes available. The Dutch coach is currently under pressure at Galatasaray after an unconvincing start to the season and Sport believes that Rijkaard has sent out his minders to inform both the Reds and Ajax he would be interested in a job. Galatasaray currently sit ninth with 12 points from eight games and the €5.5million salary that Rijkaard is on is the only protection the Dutch coach has from being sacked. While a way out for both parties is being negotiated, the former Barcelona manager wants to find his next employment, according to the Spanish daily.

the reason why rijkaards doing so poorly is because hes got too many ex liverpool players in his team!!!
    kewell, insua, baros…

Riijkaard was my first choice to replace Benitez last year and remains so now – would be nice to FINALLY see Liverpool do something that I had suggested!

  • DaveWestAus says:

A Dutchman would be preferable for me – Van Gaal!!!
Hiddink is’n’t interested and is ready for retirement and would’n’t last long! FORGET the silly scatter brained O’Neill !
‘Akash’ you have no idea what you are talking about ! the majority of LFC fans would have RAFA back tomorrow ! there is’n’t a better tactician in football than he !

Bring it on if its true. how much time to we give Roy with these dreadful tactics of sit back and hoof it. It’s a joke.

And if anyone thinks Martin O’Neill would improve things, what a joke. The guy has won nothing of note and his tactics are much the same as Roy, sit back and counter. Also consider, why the Villa fans were so elated when O’Neill left…. well at Villa:

    – O’Neill insisted on the players playing 5-a-side EVERY day in training and little else
    – He also gave the players NO tactical direction

Do we really need that kind of amateurism at Liverpool. NO. It would be Roy mark two.

Wrong move. Rijkaard might have got Barcelona to play some lovely football in his time there, but he is surely not the right coach to get Liverpool out of a potential relegation battle.

  • Daz says:

What about kenny who knows what football we want? he will know what players we need, how to motivate the players, and he will restore some pride back!

ex give roy a chance – get rid of this idiot now, resting our top players to face the mighty blackpool now doing it again for blackburn – playing often together is what they need – go go go

i don’t think Frank is the best choice. He did well at barca with an amazing team though I’m not sure how much of that team he built. His terrible season in Turkey does not inspire much confidence. Unfortunately I can hardly see Rafa quitting Inter to return to a Liverpool in the relegation zone. He would be my first choice because he was turning liverpool into a force both domestically and internationally albeit he had a poor final season.
If we could bring in Gus Hiddink I would be more than satisfied

Hold on a minute – Martin O’Neil rejuvenated a lackluster Celtic overnight: O’Neill left Leicester on 1 June 2000, taking over from the team of John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish to become manager of Celtic. O’Neill’s first Old Firm game ended in a 6–2 victory for Celtic over Rangers. However, the following Old Firm game at Ibrox saw Celtic fall 5-1. In that first season O’Neill’s Celtic won the domestic treble, the first time the club had done so since 1969. He was the first Celtic manager to take the team into the revamped Champions League (a feat he managed three times). He guided Celtic to the 2003 UEFA Cup Final in Seville, which Celtic lost 3–2 in extra time, to a Porto side coached by José Mourinho. In his five seasons at Celtic Park, O’Neill won three League titles, three Scottish Cups, and a League Cup. He also oversaw a record 7 consecutive victories in Old Firm derbies, and in season 2003–04 Celtic created a British record of 25 consecutive victories.[citation needed] During this time, O’Neill’s name was linked with a number of high-profile jobs in England.[citation needed]
On 25 May 2005, Celtic announced that O’Neill was resigning as manager at the end of the 2004/05 season to care for his wife Geraldine, who had lymphoma.
O’Neill’s last competitive game in charge of Celtic was the Scottish Cup final 1–0 victory over Dundee United on 28 May 2005, decided by an eleventh minute goal by Alan Thompson. Celtic’s record under O’Neill, was winning 213, drawing 29 and losing 40, of 282 games played.

  • Nacho says:

STAN HOWARD SAYS TRUE..WE GOT PLAYERS..NEED ONLY PLAYING TIME..BUT ROY GOT TO GO..OLD DOGS CANT LEARN NEW TRICKS..SAD..

  • Grayswood says:

Roy will be gone by the weekend, maybe the announcement will be after the game tonight. I’m sure he is a very decent chap, but he looks out of his depth – not helped by the nonsense he had to go through in the summer transfer window (have I got any money to make any significant signings? Oh, apparently not!)

He has lost the confidence of key members of the squad. Sad times, but that is the kiss of death.

Frank Rijkaard or Manuel Pellegrini will take over by the weekend. FR is odds on with the bookies.

and Benitez will not be coming back – ever – get over it.
