THREE Warnings about Frank Rijkaard

|

With growing doubts about the future of Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson and the departure of Frank Rijkaard from his job at Galatasaray yesterday, there has been increasing speculation that the Dutch manager could takeover at Anfield. On the one hand I would be very excited about the possibility of Rijkaard taking over if Roy was to lose his job. After all his attacking philosophy would be a breath of fresh air in contrast to our previous few managers; a reason many have also touted Kenny Dalglish as a possible contender in addition to his long standing ties to the club. On the other hand though, I think there has to be a few words of caution said about Rijkaard for there have also been many failures as well as successes in his relatively short managerial career.

1) The first warning comes from his time in Holland. He took over from Guus Hiddink as the Netherlands manager after the 1998 World Cup, with the task of winning Euro 2000 as the home nation. At the tournament, Rijkaard was heavily criticised for the team’s early performances in the group stages but the team gradually improved, beating eventual winners France 3-2 in the final group game and Yugoslavia 6-1 in the quarter final. They however lost on penalties to Italy in the semi-final and many in Holland believed Rijkaard should have at least guided Holland to the final considering they were the host nation. Rijkaard then proceeded to manage Sparta Rotterdam in the 2001/02 season and only managed to see his side relegated to the second division for the first time in the club’s history.

Get Slavan Bilic in. Great man manager. Filled with passion and a drive to win. Exactly what our underperforming stars need to help them out of their sorry state.

Doesn’t matter a crap who you think for manager. He will be appointed by the new owners and thank god for that some of these comments make me feel like crying.

  • Livmad says:

Bring in Guus, Frank, King Kenny or anyone other than Roy. Rafa? please no, he had done a lot of damages and left behind shit players, Lucas,…

  • Bert says:

I’d like to see Roy sacked ASAP and try for Rafa, Hiddink or O’Neil in that order!

  • Imran says:

It’s either Hiddink or Pellegrini for me.
And after Roy’s recent comments about Torres and Man U, i’d like to see him replaced asap. Was willing to give him a chance but no longer! YNWA

  • Derek says:

Good bye Woy… Put in Kenny to help with stability and passion, and take our time for the right Manager for the job…

  • smarts says:

I think we should bring Kenny in until Crimbo while we try to get Hiddink or Pelligrini! Pelligrini may not have won things with Real but he did get them playing and winning games again!Roy was never first choice, not sure about Rikard as he like Rafa lost the plot near the end of his reign at Barca and has not done much with Galatassary!

  • CHRIS says:

he turned barca around won la liga titles and champions league cup. Made Ronaldino, etoo, messi, iniesta, xavi in worlds stars. plays attacking football, and always plays for a win. cant say the same for Roy

  • stax says:

Frank has achieved more than Rafa did before he can to LFC!!! I think we should get him….anyone is better than Roy and him negative tactics!!!!!

  • Do you also know that, even former super eagle coach (amodu shaibu) can win CL at barca during that time.

  • GreenandRed says:

Hiddink would be my option but Kenny to manage until he’s available. Will probably get Rijkaard, could be good too.Is Roy Hodgson really picking this team or has Stevie G got a massive influence? What has Cole, his England team-mate, done since he started???? Jamie Carragher has been class but I’ve heard the only reason he’s there is to keep the defence in line. If well-paid (overpaid?)professional players need to be told where to stand, how to tackle, play offside etc there’s something wrong.Johnson is always a threat going forward. Surely Aurelio is worth a try ahead of Konchesky. Here’s my 11, bring on the slagging!

    4-3-2-1

    Reina
    Aurelio
    Skrtel
    Agger
    Kelly
    Gerrard
    Meireles
    Johnson
    Pacheco
    Kuyt
    Torres
