Cole: “I see myself as a central midfielder”

|

Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has stated that he would prefer to play alongside Steven Gerrard in the centre of midfield:

“I see myself as a central midfielder, as one of two or three, but we’ll see. I’ll play anywhere for this club. My dream would be to play next to Stevie. I’ve wanted to do that since we played there for the England Under-18s. In the games we’ve played closer together, the two of us linked up well.”

Cole is currently recovering from a hamstring injury but has been used as a left sided midfielder by Roy Hodgson when fit.

I prefer to have Joe Cole on the flanks rather than in the centre. We have Meireles and Stevie already providing the creativity and Kuyt is doing a good job up front with Torres. If Cole hits top form then I’m sure he’ll provide Torres with some good assists and he will help unlock defences. Benayoun did a fantastic job for us and I hope Cole can do an even better job.

Joe Cole should play behind Torres in the whole … That’s the position he started as a Liverpool player and he performed well even if it was against weak opposition …

He’s no good on the wings anymore – His injuries have made him slower. Every Chelsea supporter would tell you the same thing.

He’s still got talent and think he’s best position would be there!

You don’t necessarily have to be fast to be a winger. Maxi, Kuyt etc aren’t fast but they do a fantastic job out wide. And if Cole plays behind Torres, where do you play Kuyt, Gerrard and Meireles?

I see Cole as a central player aswel, trouble is Roy probably sees him as a right back or even a goalkeeper as square pegs and round holes seems to be Roys philosophy!

  • daboy says:

I see Cole as central for a transfer or to a spot in the reserves.

  • Rick says:

If we want to criticise Roy in a rational way, avoiding to jump on a stupid “sack Roy!!” band – wagon, We could say that the position of Meireles is totally wrong and mayb Roy should reflect on a Gerro – Meireles midfield’s pair.

  • James says:

I see him as a player who his past his best, but as we got him for nothing, why not sell him now and make a profit on a transfer for once rather than a loss

u have to have pace to be a gud winger and joe doesnt have that…
but we already have central midfielders in gerrard and meireles, its wingers that we dont have so joe shud keep playing in the wings until we bring in some gud wingers…

Its amazing how he changes stories our Joe, 1st he was the man that was going to play in the “hole” and partner Torres to tremendous effect and, what, after 2 1/2 months at the club and all of a sudden he’s a central midfielder who’ll partner Gerrard and the 2 of them’ll link up well like they did when they were U18s, lol.
Are you being for real mate? Make up your mind on where you ‘think’ you can play and stop all this jibby jabber. In my opinion, you are a squad player always have been and always will be sorry mate. There’s no way in hell you can be a good player and still get overlooked by 4 top managers (Mourinho, Scolari, Hiddink and Ancelotti) and Avram Grant so shut up and put up or ship out back to the Chelsea’s bench. You see yourself as a CM lol, next thing you’ll be a GK!
