Henry ‘doubts’ whether January is the time to invest

|

In a Q&A with the Red and White Kop Liverpool fan site, Liverpool co-owner has expressed that he doesn’t believe the January transfer window would be the right time to invest money into transfer dealings. He believes the summer could be the time for significant personnel changes:

“We have work to do and must invest in this club to improve it on the field. Can that be successfully done in January? A number of people I’ve talked with doubt it. Most people seem to think it will be the summer before we can really begin to improve.”

Henry also emphasised that the team collectively is responsible for results and that singling out the manager or one player for blame is “wrong”:

“We saw a certain team on the field against Chelsea last week that showed what they can do. We also know how competitive the EPL is this year. There are no guaranteed matches any longer for any club. This club can be better. Blaming the manager or any one particular player is simply wrong. This club needs to play up to their potential every match. If they don’t, they won’t win.”

So Roy will stay and most likely only a few signings. Great… But we really need a good replacement for the horrible Konchesky and a quality back up striker.

  • Zahid says:

If this is true its because of 2 reasons:

    1) January isnt a good time to buy the best talent in Europe because their playing European competitions and most of them decide to come at the end of the season.

    2) John W. Henry doesn’t trust Roy with the money so hes going to wait until the end of the season to bring in someone new, so that he doesn’t have to pay Roy a seasons worth of wages by sacking him now.

But he could give the budget to Commoli to spend just to stick the knife in Roys back, and it might help to persuade Roy to move on out of the club. Do any of us really trust Roy with the money NO, the likes of Konchesky and Poulsen are bad enough, next you’ll see Roy spending the cash on Crouch, Carlton Cole, Upson, Brunt or Jarvis……YNWA

Good Question : should we waste bucks on average players in jan?
Anyway put some bucks 2 bring a world class striker and world class coach.

  • Chunky says:

We have to be guided by Henry and NESV’s deeper understanding of English football. Anyone detect a ghost in all this?

  • Red Enko says:

Not too bothered about spending in the Jan window, I am sure the squad can do reasonably, as long as they get the hell rid of Woy.

He will not get the best out of any team, unless you call mid table mediocrity getting the best.

    Listen,

NESV are not going to publicly broadcast that they want to invest in January, you dont do business l;ike that. I am sure there will be money available to buy the right players, dont you think they want to make the 4th spot?

Why is everyone on Konchesky’s back, he aint that bad, and if you think about how poor Ensua was costing us so many goals. Give Konchesky some confidence and get behind him, show him what good fans we are…

It seem that the fans are creating more doom and gloom, considering ROY came into the hardest job in football with so many bad players to work with and little money.

Benitez left the club in dire straits..

I agree that it is not possible to revamp a team in the January transfer window, where most top players are already in involved in title chases or European Competition and so their clubs are not likely to want to sell.

However, I strongly disagree with the opinion that the manager should be absolved of blame as results are a collective responsibility. He is clearly not putting the team in the best position to win every week and THAT is his job.

Our players are so obviously not suited to the tactics that he is employing and as such he should change them, or be replaced himself.

    A team of
    Reina
    Johnson-Krygiakos-Agger-Konchesky
    Gerrard-Meireles(or Lucas/Poulsen)-Cole
    Babel-Torres-Jovanovich

features a team of 9 players regularly picked by their countries when fit & available (Konchesky & Cole excepted), in the positions that they are most accustomed and suited to playing.

8 times out of 10, that team would totally outplay and beat our first choice team of

    Reina
    Johnson-Carragher-Skrtel-Konchesky
    Kuyt-Poulsen-Lucas-Cole
    Gerrard
    Torres
(5 players reprising their regular international position)

Roy created doom n gloom for himself. Nobody is asking Roy to win 38 matches unbeaten or beat all teams silly, its about d kind of football/tactics u deploy. Even if u’re going to lose, let it evident dat u know what u’re doing, play good football not only against chelsea or arsenal as underdogs.

Evry reason for for summer window is fine. But the question remains what if we were not in top4 at the end of this season? Our star players will stay or leave? are we able to attract quality players?

The only solution to all this is change the manager, still we have hopes to finish in top4, if we didnt we have no rights to ask our top players to stay. Please dont blame them, think from the players point of view.

Is this just an excuse not to spend money, without any additions you can kiss C.L football goodbye.
Until Henry actually does something with the club i am not convinced of his intentions.
