Should Christian Poulsen start against Stoke?

|

After a lack-lustre performance mid-week at Wigan and faced with the prospect of playing Tony Pulis’s hard-hitting Stoke at the Britannia stadium in the evening kick-off, who will Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson pick to cope with the physical demands that the Potters will undoubtedly pose?

Our midfield against Wigan was out-fought and out-thought for over an hour in that game, with Lucas, Meireles and then young Shelvey failing to compete. The much-maligned, Christian Poulsen came on late in that game and right away Liverpool looked much more solid in midfield and we nearly got a winner though Stevie G. However, the former Juventus man, signed by Hodgson, has failed to really impress since his arrival at Anfield. Too many back-passes, a very defensive approach without imposing himself in games have all served to alienate the player from the Liverpool fans.

Much of it is justified and it is believed that the player himself has been upset by the howls of derision whenever he dons a red-shirt. But at Stoke, needs must, and I feel we need a solid midfield. For this game I would play the improving Lucas alongside Poulsen with Steven Gerrard, Maxi and Meireles or Kuyt in the middle. It will strengthen our team for a difficult match. At the back, I think Hodgson will restore the imperious Soto alongside Martin Skrtel, with Jamie Carragher reverting to right-back. I predict a 2-1 win for the Reds.

As seen at Wigan when Hodgson fielded the exact same starting XI against Chelsea, the team looked exhausted and were clearly suffering from fatigue. It’s clear that we have to rotate the team somehow. Players like Jovanovic, Babel and Poulsen must be given a run out. Not saying I’m a fan of Poulsen or something but we have a squad for a reason and we need to use it and switch players around to keep the players fresh.

Poulsen shouldn’t even get a seat on the reserve bench never mind a starting berth in the first team. The position we are in at the moment requires all 11 players on the pitch to be at the top of their game, we cannot afford to carry any players, and unfortunately for Poulsen he isn’t playing to even a quarter potential. He’s a liability.

Yes there is no way he can do worse than Lucas have you seen him against Stoke clueless just watch him dose nothingfor the team he won’t go to space to give team mates options that is why ouer midfield is limited lack of balls to Torres can’t score against Wigan and it dose not look good against Stoke hodston must go now we played top teams so we need to win the smaller teams like I said last season I predicted 7th or 8 th the players that need to sell fact :Lucas ::Kuyt :: poulsen :: koncheskis:: Milan :: or we won’t go anyware a good manager would see the lack of quality in those players straight away no doute dalglish should have had the job who ever rates lucas they don’t know what quality is

also, kuyt is the ONLY player who gives 100% which makes up for parts of his game that isnt great he should never be sold
