No Roy, I’m begging you, don’t go for Carlton!

|

Considering the unreliability of Sky Sports reporting, there is good chance that this report isn’t true, but it is being said that Liverpool are set to renew their interest in West Ham’s Carlton Cole in the January transfer window. One of the reasons the report does have some credibility is that Roy Hodgson has admitted that the Reds were interested in signing the player in the summer. Sky now believes however that West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold are willing to sell the striker in January for between £7m and £9million.

In my humble opinion, I cannot see how Carlton Cole is worth anywhere near that amount. The most he has ever scored in a season was 12 goals, a figure he got to by playing 32 times during the 2008/09 season for West Ham. During his much praised rich vein of form last campaign, he scored 10 goals in 36 matches, hardly the strike rate that opposition defenders are terrified of. Of course, Cole does have his good attributes. He is exceptionally strong and is a powerful presence in the air but is this enough to warrant £9million?

If we look at Liverpool striker David Ngog, you will see that he could very easily develop into the style of player that Cole is. Although not as strong as Cole in regards to upper body strength or as powerful in the air, he has developed this season to have a better first touch and has managed to score eight goals in all competitions as opposed to Cole’s five. The big worry for me with Cole is that he is just too inconsistent. He goes through lean periods where he doesn’t contribute enough to the game and doesn’t contribute the goals required of him. He started this season very poorly and is only beginning to gain a semblance of his true form. There are too many similarities with Emile Heskey not be worried. Although everyone at Anfield admired Emile’s effort and aerial ability, by the end of his time on Merseyside he was just not scoring enough goals.

    Konchesky, Poulson, Carlton Cole.

Hodgson thinks he’s at Fulham. If the guy is given money in the trasfer market we may as well flush it down the toilet.

And it isn’t a good sign we didn’t try to sign Edin Dzecko. The Yanks need to pull their fingers out and make a statement.

  • vinod says:

just rumours..got a feelin that livpool mit bid for adam johnson..and a striker for sure

  • ste says:

Don’t doubt for one moment that Woy will go for this carthorse, and that the clueless board will back him to the hilt.
He could be sacked and we could get a replacement in, and give them money to rebuild, but no, Woy will be given money to waste, then we will have to sack him, and then splash out even more to repair the damage – watch it happen!.

  • Rick says:

I whould prefer Adam Johnson too rather than C. Cole but in anyway, why this hostility on Cole?
Five, six months ago The Guy was ok also for Fabio Capello England side.
The Guy is physycally strong, and He has good skills as a striker.
He whould make a perfect partership with Nando.
I can’t see the reasons why some Fans have a lot of hostility for him.
    What’s the problem?
You must consider the fact that there’s a difference between the Star Players Who everyone of us whould like to see at Anfield, and The Players Who are just now interested for a move to Liverpool.
Anyway in my view it’s only a rumour: Hodgson himself claimed that Newspapers don’t say the true.

    • King Torres says:

The problem is shown in the content of your comment Rick. You talk about understanding the players who will come to Anfield. Sounds to me like your accepting mediocrity. Thats not what the new owners said they were looking for but in a signing like Carleton and a manager like Roy that’s what you get. Let’s be clear we were better last year. I’ve not seen us defend so deep or concede as many goals as this season. We only lost Masch that mattered in the summer but did replace a poor left back with one older and worse. We have only lost 2 major players from finishing 2nd.down to Roys wand

    • Eric says:

Rick, we have nothing against Charlton Cole personally and it’s nice to know he’s doing a good job at West Ham but for Liverpool, he’s just not good enough. The guy is strong in the air but his goalscoring rate is poor. We need a striker who’s physically strong and who can actually take the goalscoring burden off Torres and fire 20 goals a season. I agree that a strong, physical striker is needed but Hodgson and Comolli should be looking at Llorente, Carroll and Dzeko, not Cole.

  • Adam says:

Iv been on here in the past defending Royston but if this is the sort of s**t he is looking at buying then he needs to go! Carlton cole is a joke and a massive waste of money please don’t let this rumour become reality Roy needs to realise he ain’t at fulham no more

  • King Kenny says:

NESV are a disgrace. Liverpool are still scraping the barrel with the transfer targets. If Liverpool had taken City’s offer of 50 million for a certain worldclass 5 goal this season striker, they could have bought Dzeko, Carroll and Nzogbia. Serious fans of Liverpool need to mount a campaign to stop the Cole signing with the same ferocity that was used to get rid of Hicks and Gillette.

  • corballyred says:

Does the stat of 39 league goals in his whole career not worry you Rick, the lad couldn’t trap a bag of cement.

Didn’t realise it was Aprils fools how else can West Ham explain the valuation for a striker they have even had on the bench for half the season.

  • chris says:

i’m watching the worst liverpool team i’ve ever seen play wolve’s, and now we hear that the worst manager i’ve ever seen at liverpool want’s to buy another piece of rubbish.we need to mount a campaign like the last one to stop this bloody clueless man from inflicting more pain on us. i actually hope wolve’s win if it help’s to get rid of an idiot. it’s easy to convince people who know nothing about football to part with money. torres is pissed off with hodgson.which one need’s to go? jesus this team is awful.

  • Eric says:

Liverpool have just lose at home to bottom of the table Wolves, who out of all their away games this season, have drawn once and lost eight and who just got beaten at home to Wigan.

This is one of the poorest performances I’ve seen, even worse than the Blackpool match. We created zero chances and every single player was as poor as fkuc. Reina passed and threw the ball directly to the opponents twice, Glen Johnson kicked the ball away in the first half and was very poor throughout the game, Soto and Skrtel gave the opponents the chance to score and Paul Konchesky, as usual, showed that he’s just not good enough. Meireles, worst ever performance for the club, missing a golden opportunity and constantly misplacing passes. Lucas, Gerrard and Kuyt all let Wolves dominate the midfield and they created nothing for the strikers. Torres didn’t look one bit interested and Ngog was average.

Hodgson still hasn’t realised Aurelio is a better left back than Konchesky and he decided to leave Agger on the bench. He fielded Meireles out wide and he contributed nothing to the team. Kuyt, no speed and can’t cross but he fields him on the left wing. Roy doesn’t know what he’s doing and I hope NESV sack him as soon as possible.

  • steve says:

ROY GO AWAY NOW!!WE DONT WANT ANYMORE KONCHESKIES AND POULSENS!!GO AWAY NOW!!i dont have anything against carlton cole too but he aint liverpool standard..liverpool first of all need a new manager and secondly need 1 left,1 partner for torres,2 players good for the bench..i would suggest the NESV to do everything now and build something good for the future

    • Zahid says:

“i would suggest the NESV to do everything now and build something good for the future”

Yeah first remove Roy Hodgeson before we don’t have a future!

  • steve says:

    1 left = 1 left back

  • Dee says:

Why break up a working partnership of meireless and lucas?
Why not play Gerrard behind torres and leave lucas and raul just like alonso and masch?
Why field konchesky when aurelio is fit?
Why do we have to play defensive tactics at ANFIELD against a team(wolves) that has never won away this season?
Why did we (purslow) hire roy in the first place?
Goodnews is that we will win the championship next season just like newcastle all u have to do is give roy till the end of the season to build his liverpool ‘dream team’. Konchesky, poulsen and now chalton cole.

  • daboy says:

Cole screams of mediocrity and my opinion if they are not willing to spend big then get Van Wolfswinkle he is young and could be anything.
I am not worrying too much about Cole coming as i am confident Roy is about to be unemployed after the latest debacle.

  • Eric says:

When will Roy realise that he’s manager of Liverpool FC. Charlton Cole is good for Fulham but he’s definitely not good enough for Liverpool. He needs to go before he wastes another 9 mil on this guy, we’ve had enough of Koncheskys and Poulsens. The guy needs to know that he’s managing the most successful club in England not some mid-table club, players like Konchesky, Poulsen and C.Cole are just not good enough to play for us. 28 goals in 123 appearances for West Ham and he’s not even playing well consistently. Roy still hasn’t realised that he’s made a big mistake in bringing Poulsen and Konchesky to the club and he wants to drag the club further down by bringing this guy who’s scored only 51 goals in his entire career and he’s already 27. I’ll have nothing to say if Roy decides to bring in this guy and I’ll probably even burn my Liverpool shirt as even Ngog is better than Cole. Roy doesn’t know what he’s doing and he thinks Liverpool is Fulham. Roy, please do what all Liverpool supporters want and resign

  • albey says:

I really hope these yanks are not the same stubin pigheaded idiots as the last ones and listen to the fans we dont want carlton cole and we dont want roy hodgson at our club period so please remove one and stop any chance the another may come please
