According to The People, Liverpool’s Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli is looking at no less than five French based players. Lille’s Eden Hazard (valued at £20m), Rennes’ defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila, St Etienne winger Dimitri Payet, Marseille striker Loic Remy, Lille centre half Adil Rami as well as another German based player Neven Subotic have all been linked by the paper to a move to the Reds in January. Roy Hodgson has stated he will be cautious when buying players in January:
“We are very much a work in progress on the scouting front. We are all watching players and coming up with ideas. January tends to be a window where you are trying to put something right, which you didn’t expect to go wrong. Everyone is going to want to add one or two new faces and change one or two things around. Fans like to have someone new to latch on to. But you have to be very circumspect because if you are not careful you bring in people who won’t serve a purpose. Bringing in someone who doesn’t do that is worse than bringing in no one.”
The total cost of the players above, according to The People, is a hefty £80million and it would be very unlikely that the Reds would spend such an amount in January.

Just because he is French why associate with French players? I find that frustrating.
You could argue the same when we had Rafa and he targeted Spanish players with more failures than successes (Alonso, Reina, Torres, Arbeloa (IMO) and not forgetting Garcia being the notable success).
Look at the bigger picture FFS and not just your homeland.

Pull out all the stops for Hazard before someone else gets in there
In winter transfer we need 2 bring 2 player and sme young talent nearing the age of 22. 1 stand out striker, 1winger or CAM. And sme young players like josic ilispc he plays for palermo he is a midfielder age 22 ,price 2.5mil, talented for long range goals and passing. Other is Subotic, Sakho. I dont think we need 2 spent 20mil on Hazard. Thts 2 much
Failures? Those players you’ve mentioned all had a massive impact on the team and were all first teamers. The Failures apart from Morientes and possibly Riera were all meant to be squad players. I think the impact of those stellar names (two of whom are now Real Madrid first teamers) far outweigh any negatives bought about by the likes of Josemi or Nunez. I would say on the whole we did pretty well out of the Spanish players Rafa bought, most of whom were in Spain’s European and WC winning squads.
I hope we can get Hazard cause this guy’s a real talent and is only 19. 20 mil might be too expensive but NESV’s policy is to recruit young players with potential to be world class so we might actually have a chance of getting him. Loic Remy is a quality striker but I doubt we can get him in January since he only joined Marseille in the summer and their asking price might be too high.
