Roy: There is more to come from him

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes there is more to come from Reds midfielder Raul Meireles. He told Liverpoolfc.tv:

“With Raul Meireles it was always just a question of time. He came from a different league but I never doubted his quality as a player. I always knew we’d get something out of him because of his exceptional ability. I’m sure we’ll get even more out of him now, with the more games he plays as he settles more and more into life in England.”

Meireles continued his excellent form alongside Lucas on Monday night in the 3-0 win against Aston Villa.

Meireles’ form has more to do with Roy being forced in to playing him in his correct position. He is not a right midfielder but a complete central midfield player.

Seeing Raul play as well as he has done recently is because he is playing in the position that suits him and his qualities.

would prefer to have Lucas and Meireles playing together in central midfield as I think that gets the best out of Meireles since he’s allowed to go forward more and play a more attacking role. If Gerrard and Meireles play together and Lucas is dropped then Meireles will have more responsibility. He will certainly have to defend more and cover for Gerrard. What I would like to see is a central midfield partnership of Lucas and Meireles with Gerrard just behind Torres as we’ve seen what a threat Gerrard and Torres are when they play together up front.
