Three signings to turn Roy’s season around

There is no doubt that Liverpool need at least three new first team players to help them compete at the top end of the Premier League. Today we take a look at three potential targets.

First up, I believe Gary Cahill should be high up on the list of potential transfer targets for Liverpool. The defender is showing his real worth at Bolton and with him being young he certainly is one for the future. With Jamie Carragher’s best years behind him and uncertainty surrounding Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel, Could Cahill and Danny Wilson strike up a lasting partnership. If I were a Liverpool fan, I would definitely welcome such a defence pairing.

We are constantly hearing the likes of David Bentley and Shaun Wright Phillips being linked with a move to Merseyside, but I do not believe either of these two players would be the answer to the problems that surround Liverpool’s wide areas. For me, Arda Turan could be the answer, he has publicly stated his love for the club and he has more than the ability to cope with the Premier League. At just 23 he has played 43 times for his country and has widely been tipped to one of Europe’s elite teams in recent times. The tricky winger also has an eye for goal which would be beneficial as Liverpool have struggled to consistently rack up the goals during this campaign.

Finally my third signing this January would be Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich, Muller plays as a midfielder or forward, and has been deployed in a variety of attacking roles – as an attacking midfielder, second striker, or on either wing. He has been praised for his pace, technique and composure, and has shown consistency in both scoring and creating goals. The young forward had a very decent World Cup and I believe with his attributes he would be a great strike partner for Torres. With Liverpool’s new owners keen to bring in young players with potential, he certainly fits the bill.

So there you have it, three players I’d like to see at Anfield come January. Were these players to join I am sure the fortunes of the club would change swiftly resulting in the team climbing the table and setting themselves up nicely for the second half of the season. Are these signings feasible, and are they the type of players that could make a difference at Anfield?

Turan would be an excellent signing. Young is probably too expensive.

I dont know too much about Cahill but he is getting good reviews. But Mertesacker would still top my list. Good on the ball and very good in the air. Players strong in the air is what we miss at the moment. When kyrgiakos plays we are so much stronger defending and attacking.

  • Navin says:

Cahill maybe, but certainly not one of the hottest centre backs in world football. Good but not world class-yet.

Turan did state his love publicly for Liverpool over a year ago. But has since signed a new contract at Gala, remains their captain and his agent has said that he wouldn’t be ready to move for another few years.

Muller from Bayern Munich? German players who are in good stead with the German national team simply do not leave Bayern Munich. Dream on.

What we need is real talent combined with pase.
For me the question is will the money be put up if the players become avaliable. even if that means a bidding war. If so I would sell johnson possible in a player plus cash deal to Milan for Pato. This deal plus the influence of Lucas to capture Ganzo and Naymar.
This would give us a team capable of beating any body in world football.
    JUST THE RIGHT THREE PLAYERS

I’d rather give Kelly & Wilson the opportunity to prove themselves at centreback than to spend good money on another relatively unproven defender, or to continue playing Skrtel either. They’ll never prove their worth by being stuck on the bench, and if they do prove themselves, they’ll ultimately save us millions, while allowing us to strengthen the team elsewhere.

I don’t really rate Muller too highly but Bayern do, and to get him away from there would cost BIG bucks (why would a starting local lad want to leave the Double Winners in the middle of a Champions League campaign anyway??).

Turan is a good player, but as stated above and elsewhere, that opportunity looks to have passed.

Three transfers to revitalise our team (along with a new ambitious manager and a switch to Mourinho’s Chelsea 433 formation) would be Suarez, Gervinho and Moussa Sissoko.
Let Kuyt, Maxi, Skrtel and Spearing go and make the team bigger, stronger, quicker and more technically adept

  • Eric says:

Gary Cahill is young and is showing his quality at Bolton and would be a good signing but with Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Kyrgiakos and Wilson I really don’t think we need him at this stage.

I would love to see Arda Turan join Liverpool but Hodgson did admit that he knew nothing about him and that Turkish players usually spend their careers in Turkey.

    Thomas Muller, seriously, dream on.

  • daboy says:

Yes it is going to be easier if we get Arda.
