Why I would be happy with the signing of this England man

|

With January now only a month away, the speculation regarding Liverpool’s transfer targets has inevitably intensified, with every striker in Europe seeming to be linked with us at the moment. One more recent rumour has been that we are interested in signing Sunderland’s Darren Bent. Now, I’m fully aware that it would take one hell of a sum to convince Steve Bruce to sell his talisman to us, therefore making the transfer more improbable than anything, but I can’t help but hope that Roy’s reported interest in the ex-Charlton hitman has some substance.

There’s no doubt that the signing of Bent would gain a mixed reaction from the Anfield faithful, with some remaining sceptical over his ability to adapt at a big club after seeing him fail to impress at Spurs a couple of years ago. Other fans however, have taken note of the fact that in his second and final season at Tottenham, Bent still managed to finish as their top scorer in all competitions with a respectable 17 goals. As we all know, he has grown in confidence since moving to Sunderland and has managed to notch an incredible 34 goals in 53 appearances.

Nooooo – mid table mentality for mid table players – why oh why do we associate ourselves with this sort of calibre.

  • Jay Wright says:

He’s a very good striker imo, but what is the point in having two strikers leading the line and a congested midfield that can’t work the ball through to them??

  • Rick says:

“Now, I’m fully aware that it would take one hell of a sum to convince Steve Bruce to sell his talisman to us”

    excatly mate.
    your point is valid.
No way to grab this good striker from fat bruce’s influence unless We’ll pay him like He were a Real Madrid’s player…

  • Eric says:

I would love to see him at here but like you said it would take a hell of a sum to convince Bruce to sell. No doubt he’s a talented guy who can notch in goals but I think it’s quite unlikely we’ll be able to sign him in January…

  • Jab Me Alonso says:

Dont want Bent Or Cole both are limited in their all round ability. Might as well sign Cisse for half the price!!!!! (you may laugh but I honestly think he’d be great given a chance)

Why not give Jovanovic a chance alongside Torres, he has pace determination and he is strong. If he played regular i’d have his name on my shirt. He has a winning menality which not many others have since Mascherano left. Ok Skrtel, Gerrard, Reina, Carragher and Krykgoriges are they exceptions but thats not many out of the 25 man squad.

  • stan says:

cud b a gud addition specially considering nando’s goal scoring form has’nt been gr8…

  • Jackson says:

Y wont we give 25mil and buy Louis Saurez frm Ajax. Tht wld give our team a Talented tailsman rather thn going for Bent. He is a big name player.

  • Pls. 4get cole and bent, we need people like Llorente, Gomez, crouch or suares.

    • steve mcauley says:

how can you put peter crouch in thqt company? wise up!
would certainly take any of the other three but if it’s PL experience we’re looking for then absolutely take darren bent, i think he would be a terrific signing!

  • stan says:

i agree..crouch is definitely nt gud enuf for liverpool…
llorente is too expensive, gomez has hit top form and bayern wont let him leave..

  • Dennis says:

Any good football fan with a football brain, will know what our beloved team are lacking.

We need 8-9 players IN and 8-9 OUT, to get the club challenging and contending for trophies again.

1stly the back 4 needs strengthening: We need a new Centre back, a new Right back and A new solid quick, fast, strong, tough Left back.

And some defensive midfielders who are great at breaking down play and hard in the tackle and are hard to break through away from home need to be brought to club:

Then we need some pacey wingers on either flanks that can stretch teams and offer team width and creativity and some threat going forward:

Lastly two strikers: One to be target man who can hodl up ball well bring others into play, score goals and can be an aerial threat, then another striker who can COMPETE with Torres and keep him on his Toes, so we can see Torres firing on all cylinders all the time or someone else who can come on and do as good as him in front of goal for the club.

1:So Gary Cahill Of Bolton, R Shawcross Of Stoke, S Taylor Of Newcastle, D wheater Of Middlesborough or B Hangeland, one of these should be brought in January.

2:Hodgson or whoever is in charge in January should buy Micah Richards from Man City, so that he and Glen Johnson can compete for that Right back position.

3:Taiwo Of Marseille or Cissokho Of Lyon should be brought to club to number 1 left back and Koncheskey to be understudy LB

4:Lassana Diarra Of Real Madrid Or Momo Sissoko should be brought back to club from Juventus DM/CM

5:Matthieu Flamini Of A.C Milan should be brought in to make team harder to break down CM/DM

5: Royston Drenthe Of Real Madrid, Diego Capel of Seville, Pablo Piatti or Albert Crusat of Almeira should be brought to play on left wing to offer speed, pace, trickery, creativity, quality, good service to the front man/men LW

6: Jesus Navas Of seville, Juan Mata Of Valencia, Arda Turan Of Galatassary, A Sanchez Of Udinesse or Antoine Griezmann Of Real Sociedad should be brought to play on right wing to offer pace, speed, energy, youth, entertainment, quality, creativity and to keep teams stretched Home and Away.

7: Valbuena Of Marseille, to be our creative attacking centre midfielder to unlock the top teams in league with vison, magic or skill.

8: Peter Crouch Of Tottenham or Llorente Of Athletico Bilbao a Big striker, target man that could link up play with Torres.

9: Lisandro Lopez Of Lyon, Lukas Podolski Of FC Koln and Oscar Cardodozo Of Benfica, should be brought to club to COMPETE with Torres.

And the 7- 8 out should be: 1:Krygiakos CB, 2:Aurelio LB ( great player but Mr Injury prone, plays 20% of season on treatment table other 80% of season not consistant), 3:POULSEN DM/CM, 4:LUCAS CM/DM( Has improved very well, but still will never ever be in the class level of Mascherano, Alonso, Hamman or Sissoko had in the centre of Park. 5: Rodriguez: Clever footballer and great player but way past his best and came to the club, 3 yrs to late RW/LW. 6: Jovanovic: Average player, who like D Kuyt works his socks off for club but offers very little going forward.

7: Babel: Great player with bags of Potential but the old manager has killed all his confidence, he needs a move for his own good as he is not the same player we bought 3 years ago.

8: Ngog: Average striker, good player but the club is too good and to big for him, he could do well in a Blackpool, West Brom, Wigan, West Ham side, just doesn’t cut it For Liverpool.

9: Joe Cole: Great player but needs to be sold or just a squad player, but being on 90,000 a week us fans need to be seeing some great displays and consistant displays and we have had neither so far.

  • stavros says:

some people think we are a championship class team(with no offence to them).we surely(like all teams, except for Barca!!)need signings but no like the guy here who says”sell this,this,this…”lool..we need stability in the club not sell this, buy this, then sell this…i think with 2 or 3 additions to the squad,we can get that 4th spot and start going for titles.in my opinion we need:1)a left back,2)another striker,3)a pacey winger.so i would buy:1)Cissokho or Coentrao,2)Bent ,3)Hazard,Bolton’s Lee,Honda…Also if we are to sell Agger,i wouldnt mind if we bought another center back for his place.Sell that Mr INJURY man and buy Gary Cahill or Ryan Shawcross. My favorite squad:
    Reina
    Johnson Skrtel Shawcross Coentrao
    Gerrard Meireles
    Cole Hazard
    Torres Bent
Subs:Jones,Carragher,Konchesky,Lucas,Maxi,Kuyt,Babel,Jovanovic,Ngog.i think these players would cost:Shawcross 7-9 million,Coentrao 13-15 million,Hazard 15-17 million and Bent 15-19 million. Also if we sold Agger we would have 12 million minimum.i dunno but i dont think liverpool’s squad is as bad as some people say.

  • Dennis says:

We are not Man City, and this is not Fifa either, do you think Harry Redknapp at Tottenham just brought in 3 players to make them leapfrog us and take them in the champions league?

He brought Modric, Palacious, Kaboul back to them, Defoe and Crouch back to them, Keane back to them, Pavluchenko, Bassong, Van Der Vaart, Kranjcar, he brought Sandro and Gio Dos Santos.

And how Long was it when Tottenham were fighting Relegation?

Our team is in desperate need of alot of players, the season we finished 2nd, all we was lacking was two out and out wingers with pace and trickery and another top class striker.

Since then we have lost our two world class combination in the middle, we have lost good squad players: Bennayoun, Riera.

And a very good consistant fullback Arbeloa.

And thats y we need 8-9 players in and alot of dead wood out, if we want to be challenging for Honours year in year out and trying to keep hold of our best and star players, then they need to be playing with players of their own calibre week in week out fighting for trophies for our club.

As to keep growing and competing, the best teams regularly strengthen here and there.

Apart for Meireless, the signings we have completed in the last two transfer windows have been abizmal.

    • Hem1 says:

I actually thought your anlysis was quite good, way to harsh on Ngog and Lucas, i doubt they are on big money and at the least make good squad players, Man U have for years kept hold of players like O’shea and Brown who would never in a month of sundays would be first choice for more than was necessary, but they do a job. And look at Fletcher all of a sudden hes gone from barely good enough for their squad to a First choice both Ngog and Lucas are Young so should be kept.
Your sugested signings that i think we could land and should would be
      Shawcross
      Drenthe
      Cappel
      Taiwo
      Llornete
      Cardozo.
If we could sign some of these great, most are under 25 even better.
But to land Lopez, Navas or some of the other big names would probably be unrealistic, if the new owners do break the bank maybe they will for Mata,
but your looking at 100 mill to capture that lot and its still at least going to be 2 – 3 players of your ideall number.

  • Jackson says:

R ths people who gave the comment above playing Fantasy Football out here or they thk we r hve a champions league spot reserved fr us. We dont even hve a sheik . The things we hve gt right nw r one idotic coach and 11 place in the league standing.

  • Dennis says:

My Analysis On Lucas And Ngog is honest, Look at our squad and we wonder why we are struggling in the league. Remember are club are is the best club in the world and i feel we do not have enough world class players that the club deserves.

Reina, G Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Gerrard, Meireless, Torres.

Those are the best players at club, Agger is our best defender if fully fit, so if Hodgson even attempts to sell him, he’s a clown.
He’s a football playing centre back, not a long ball merchant and when fit, he should be 1st defender down on teamsheet.

And as god forbid anything happens to Meireless or if Gerrard gets injured again later in season we are f****d. As Lucas and Poulsen are Just not good enough in the centre of the park.

But if we could get in Matthieu Flamini for £6-£8M, Bring In Lassana Diarra Of Real Madrid or Momo Sissoko Of Juventus back also for £8-£10M, that would be £14-£18M.

That would be what we sold Mascherano for and thats the two players of his class and stature who would strengthen side and make us harder to break down away from home.

And If Hodgson feels Aquilani should be sold for £13M, Then so be it but the guys quality just was not given a fair shot. But if he is sold, The Money should be used on VALBUENA Of Marseille, He could be our creative skillfull classy attacking midfielder.

Then if POULSEN, LUCAS And Aquilani are sold, yet replaced with Diarra/Sissoko,Flamini and Valbuena.

Our Centre Midfield would be awesome and strong again: Gerrard, Flamini, Sissoko, Meireless.

And then Valbuena could compete with Joe Cole.
