8 Rumoured Targets, which ones would YOU take to Anfield?

|

Rory Smith in the Daily Telegraph today has revealed that Liverpool are looking at eight potential transfer targets in the January transfer window with the club willing to release funds for at least four of them this month. Out of the following eight, which ones would you take to Anfield?

Romelu Lukaku – A tremendously exciting 17 year old, powerful centre forward, the 6ft 3 Belgian international would be my first choice striker to partner Fernando Torres up front. A bid between £15-20m would be asked for by Anderlecht but due to his age, I have no problem in thinking that Fenway Sports Group would release the funds necessary for a player who has already played eight times for Belgium before his 18th birthday. Denoted the “New Didier Drogba,” he does have big expectations to live up to but although a big risk, I believe it would be one worth taking considering his all-round attributes, which seem perfectly fitted to the Premier League. Could really be an excellent foil for Torres.

Ashley Young – Still young and lightning quick, the Aston Villa midfielder is a winger we have been crying out for since the days of McManaman and Barnes. It is uncertain whether he could ever be as good as those two players, but with Aston Villa struggling in the league, and with the 25 year old only having a year left on his contract, the time is definitely right to test the waters with his Birmingham club.

Urby Emanuelson – A less clear cut decision this one, Emanuelson has spent most of his recent career at Ajax playing as a left winger. He has also however played at left back, and with Liverpool’s recent problems at left back, a move for a pacey, attack minded player such as the Dutch international could be an interesting prospect. Due to Emanuelson having played more as a winger than a full back though, his poor defensive abilities would be a concern. He was moved by Marco Van Basten in the 2008/09 season from left back to left midfield after some poor defensive displays, and hasn’t moved back since. He should probably be only considered for a left wing position then, and there are some better exponents in this list who should be priortised ahead of him.

Luis Suarez – Certainly a classy striker, but I have mentioned in a previous article my reservations about him. Still though, he had a good World Cup with Uruguay and if we can get him for the £15m-18m quoted, then it would be a steal in my opinion. That would be no foregone conclusion though as there would be many other teams interested in the player for that price.

    My Liverpool squad:
    Reina
    Johnson Mexes Agger Taiwo
    J.Cole Gerrard Meireles
    Babel Torres Suarez
    Mexes-8 million,Taiwo-4 million(he is free at summer),Suarez-20 million

    • Jay Wright says:

@ Steve – that would be a massively improved team from what we’ve seen recently and would be plausible too! (although Mexes might be a stretch…)

Although those wouldn’t be the same moves that I’d make, I hope that our club finally displays some common sense in its transfer dealings with once and we end up with a team more like you and I suggest, than one that still has Kuyt or Maxi on the wings and Skrtel at centreback!

      • steve says:

i dont know what is happening at LFC.we all know that we have a poor squad, but both Hodgson and Dalglish have recently said that they have faith in the team.the team is underperforming right now but still we need players to come.i would gladly sell all our loaned players(except for Eccleston) and also sell Konchesky,Poulsen and Jovanovic.i’ve been thinking sometimes that a fan would be a top manager for their club..i mean king kenny was watching how lfc was performing this year, hasnt he?so why did he play players that should be sold like poulsen, jovanovic…i cant do anything right now than keep singing You’ll never walk alone..we are all hurting a lot and i just pray that this nightmare stops now..we are the greatest football club in england and should start show that on the pitch..

        • lee says:

sorry but babel, ngog, poulsen, lucas , kuyt should be sold . ngog and babel are not up to liverpool stands and cause more problem than they are worth , babel gives the ball away more than any play i’v ever seen. ngog cannot hold the ball up which is vital to be a good forward and bring your team mates into the game. lucas n kuyt are hard workers but again give the ball away or carnt pick out the right pass in the final 3rd of the pitch. kuyt does the same thing every match turns back on himself which allows there defence to get back. the less said about poulsen, konchesky the better.all in all we have gone from having the best spine of the team in league to 1 of the worst ..the spine being reina, carragher, hyppia(big losing and still should be at the heart of are defence) mascherano, alonso, gerrard, torres, we needed 2 good wingers and we were there

      • baz says:

Johnson at right back and babel on right wing? Surely kelly at right back and either Johnson or babel on wing as Johnson is much better going forward than defending

  • Eric says:

I don’t think NESV are willing to sign 4 or more players this January. They probably believe that summer will be when major changes will be made. However, I do feel we need at least 2 players to come in this month. Not signing a striker in 3 transfer windows will really be a joke so I’d like to see either Lukaku or Suarez come in. A pacy out-and-out winger is also needed and I think N’Zogbia, a proven Premier League player who’s also a French International, will fit in perfectly. He can play left, right and centre and I’m sure he would be a great addition to the squad.

  • JJ says:

I would sign Romelu Lukaka,Yann M’Vila and Ashley Young. I wouldn’t particularly like to see any of the rest of these players maybe Marveuax because he is available on a free i’m sure he’s better than Jovanovic , Suarez although a good player he is a scumbag , for centre half we should sign Gary Cahill and splash the cash at Everton for Leighton Baines

  • Hannah says:

By far romelu lukaku eden hazard or luis suarez

  • lee says:

we need 2 wingers that can take people on to create space for torres, i would go all out for hulk, hazard and m’villa or banega . if agger goes then we need a experienced cb aswell.
    reina
    johnson skrtel agger aurelio/mavinger
    m’vila
    gerrard meireles
    hulk hazard
    torres

if we need to play 2 up front or torres gets injured hulk moves to centre forward and gerrard can move to right wing if needed

  • Fidel says:

If we get Suarez, Young n Mvila. We would improve in my view. The goals would certainly come, which is what we are lacking

  • dee says:

Since we can’t sign all the players. I’ll go for
    LB – coentrao/taiwo
    Wing – arda turan/young
    Striker-Romelu lukaku/suarez
Actaully my first choice will be coentrao, turan and lukaku

  • Yogi says:

Of those if I had to take one then it’s M’Vila he looks class to me. I can’t see to many coming in this month so I’d surprised if any of those 8 came.

  • RedMist!!! says:

Emanuelson is talented but neither winger nor left back! This is not what we need.

We need a true left back (Taye Taiwo.) NOW, a pacey winger (N’Zogbia, Young or Elija) NOW and if Suarez is available then the Gerrard conundrum may be solved! He’ll play in midfield.

They can bed in over the next 6 months and help move the club back up the table! All have pace which the Liverpool lacks throughout the team.

    Speed kills!!!

  • ilovespurs says:

podolski elia and diarra would be cruicial to the liverpool team since alonso left liverpool have been not at their best

  • ilovespurs says:

podolski elia and diarra would be cruicial to the liverpool team since alonso left liverpool have been not at their best coentrao would be good for us too

  • daboy says:

Liverpool are not likely to get Hazard so i will go for Mvila firstly and Elia would be my next pick.

  • David says:

We need a good defence first before we can start thinking about buying stikers and wingers

  • magnumopus says:

I think the French players mentioned in this article are the only ones who have a chance of arriving in January.

  • Dennis says:

As most of the Ex Liverpool players keep saying and the true fans should actually know is we simply have to many poor/average/mediocre players at the club who are simply not good enough to play for the club.

The likes of Krygiakos, Koncheskey, Insua, Lucas, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Ngog, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Babel, J Cole are simply not good enough to be at club.

And those players would struggle to get into the likes of Sunderland, Newcastle, Blackpool, Bolton, Birmingham, Stoke, Blackburn, Wolves and Wigan.

So how they are at our club still, we will never know.

King Kenny needs to clear all of them out between now and the summer, then hopefully bring in £40-£50m in worth of Sales then the owners need to dig deep into their pockets and give Kenny another £100-£120M on top of money brought in on sales.

Then King Kenny should bring in 5 Players to make team more solid, tough to break down, hard to beat:

A CB: G Cahill Of Bolton Or R Shawcross of Stoke.
A RB: M Richards Of Man City to compete with G Johnson.
A LB: Taiwo Of Marseille to compete with Aurelio.
DM: Bring back Momo Sissoko From Juventus.
DM: Bring in M’Villa Of Rennes to compete with Sissoko for DM role at club.

Then 5 players should be brought in to offer pace, speed, creativity, skill, cutting edge, quality and to be constant threats:

A RW: A Young Of A Villa Or E Hazard Of Lille.
A Left Footed Left Winger: R Drenthe Of R Madrid Or D Capel Of Seville.

An attacking creative midfielder: Valbuena Of Marseille.

FD: Llorente Of A Bilbao A,Negredo Of Seville or Bring back P Crouch from Tottenham. ( Target man)

FD: L Podolski Of FC KOLN, L Lopez Of Lyon or L Suarez Of Ajax.

    • Lanky says:

Dreamer…Could u pls wake up from your slumber?Cos,u r getin sunk in it.Wake up now,cos its never gonna happen.Except u decide 2 buy lfc yourself.

  • Dennis says:

As our club need to make some huge drastic changes for the club to move forward, the club do not have to do a Man City and spend £369m pounds on players since the Abu Dhabi Family took over city.

But our club will need to do a Harry Redknapp and bring in alot of players, Remember two years and 2months back Redknapp took over a team in a relegation battle.

Now two years on they are flying in the league, now have taken our place in the champions league and in the last 16 and have a chance of actually winning the league.

Harry has been backed heavily by Levy, Kenny needs to be back heavily by NESV.

    Harry’s 1st signings were: Bring back Defoe £15m, Chimbonda £3m, Crouch £8m, Cudicini Free transfer,Palacious £12m.

And he has never looked back: With some top signings and bargain buys: Brought back Kaboul, Got Bassong, Gallas, Van der Vaart, K Naughton, K Walker.

King Kenny should be able to bring in: 6 players this January Transfer window: A Centre back: G Cahill of Bolton. A Left back: Taiwo Of Marseille,A Defensive mid: Bring back Momo Sissoko From Juventus or bring in M’Villa Of Rennes.
Two wingers for either wing: RW: A Young Of A Villa / LW: R Drenthe Of Real Madrid.
And a Forward: Llorente Of A Bilbao, A Negredo Of Seville Or Bring back P Crouch of Tottenham.

And then the club could get back to winning ways and we could have a team who can win away from home and get at teams at Home and away.

And could have a side that could match anyone:

    Reina
G Johnson G Cahill Agger Taiwo

    Sissoko/M’Villa
    Meireles Gerrard

    A Young R Drenthe

    Torres

  • Julie says:

FSG’s philosophy from the start was to bring the club together, attain the players they need to go forward from it’s youth academy thus not having to spend 100-120 MIL in the transfer market like a lot of people think we need to do. Only baz & lee mentioned any youth names. MARTIN KELLY who I believe is playing better than GLEN JOHNSON @ RB & CHRIS MAVINGA what about SHELVEY, PACHECO, AYALA, INSUA, FLANAGAN, ROBINSON, WISDOM, STIRLING & SUSO why develop all this talent if all you want to do is sell them to lower league clubs. I mean STEPHEN WARNOCK wasn’t he an academy player who we shipped out now the club has him returning as a loan player. But in the immediate future they need 2 or 3 players, TORRES definitely needs a strike partner, who? anyone’s guess!!! just get somebody good enough!!! A WINGER who plays on the WING!!! someone with speed please, someone who can cross the ball & someone who commands a presence in defense a SAMI HYPIA type.

  • daboy says:

I definitely would not like Suarez or Emanuelson Van Wolswinkle definately represents the best value of them with Lukaku.
