A deafening silence eerily similar to a previous NESV decision

|

This was certainly not an unequivocal answer from Hodgson, suggesting that they had not been that forthcoming over his future. It was a similar deafening silence that characterised Joe Kerrigan’s first days under NESV leadership. After not having his position clarified, he was sacked on March 5th; only a week after NESV had taken over the Baseball team. In a statement General Manager Mike Port said:

“This kind of decision is always difficult to make. We have the utmost respect for Joe, and admire his work ethic and his achievements as a pitching coach. We firmly believe that this action is in the long-term best interest of this franchise.”

Here is where the similarities end between Kerrigan and Hodgson though. While it took the best part of the week for NESV to get rid of Kerrigan, Hodgson has been in the job two months since John W Henry and FSG took over Liverpool. This is unsurprising considering they knew next to nothing about football a few months ago. They are obviously taking their time to consider every possibility and they should be given the time to make the right decision.

What’s ominous for Hodgson though is that, like Kerrigan, they have plainly failed to state publicly their support for the manager. With the fans firmly against Roy, FSG are aware they cannot state any sort of public support without becoming unpopular and they are clearly considering their options over Roy’s future. Tonight’s match against Blackburn Rovers will go a long way to deciding which direction they go in.

What does he not know about Woy? Poor football, poor attendance from a poor manager

  • Kenny says:

Hodgson should never have got the job. If Benitez had been given 1 billion pounds to spend he would still have said he couldn’t compete. Liverpool haven’t had a real quality manager since Bob Paisley.

  • Voland says:

I can understand that NESV need time to identify the next manager, but I am afraid that time is simply what they haven’t got. Liverpool’s season is going down the drain while they deliberate – Dalglish or Benitez on a rolling contract is the only way forward at this point in time.
