Aldridge: I really hope the speculation proves to be wrong

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has stated that he hopes the speculation linking Daniel Agger with a move away from Merseyside is wrong. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo yesterday he said:

“Having Fabio Aurelio and Daniel Agger back in the Liverpool side made a real difference against Bolton. There’s no doubt Paul Konchesky has really struggled at left-back and Aurelio is more comfortable on the ball. As for Agger, I really hope the speculation linking with a move in January proves to be wrong. I know he’s had injury problems but when fit he’s a class act.”

Aldridge believes having both Agger and Fabio Aurelio in the side makes the team less direct:

“We played the ball out from the back a lot more rather than just hoofing it. Konchesky and Sotirios Kyrgiakos are more direct. We’ve gone route one too often recently. When you’ve got big, strong strikers fighting for you that’s fine. But Fernando Torres wasn’t brought up on that and he needs the ball played into the right areas. We’ve always been a passing team and that’s what the fans want to see.”

This week it is former Liverpool WAG Gisela Molinero!

    Spot on Aldo!
Agger and Aurelio brought some class (and football!)to a defence that has just lumped the ball up the field this season, only to find it quickly returned into our penalty area.
If Aurelio and Agger don’t become the first names on the defensive team sheet, then Hodgson’s finished- if he’s not already!

Aldridge is 100% right. Aurelio and Agger made a massive difference against Bolton. Aurelio showed that he’s much better than Konchesky. Agger’s our best centre back who’s fantastic with the ball as he’s able to play the ball out of the back instead of booting it. I really hope Hodgson isn’t thinking bout selling Agger and hopefully he sees that Aurelio is better than the useless Konchesky.

Well said Aldo, totally agree with you there. Agger reminds me of Hansen in the way that he tries to play the game and bring the ball out of defence rather than just ‘hoofing’ it. At times this season we have looked like the Everton team labelled ‘the dogs of war’ because of the way we have just wellied the ball up the field. Nando needs a team that can play football the ‘old Liverpool way’. Imagine Nando being in the late 70’s to mid eighties team! Now that would have been a sight to behold. Let’s get back to the ‘Liverpool pass and move’ style, Nando will thrive on that and that means having Agger as a definite starter every time. YNWA

i think the so called sports scientists are putting the fear of compounding injuries etc into players heads and this useless magager hasnt got the bottle to take no notice of them, stevie would have been on the bench against bolton until it was too late, if mireles had not got injured. will anyone be rested tonigh after all they have played one game in three weeks.
