DEBATE: What should be done with our Argentine outcast?

|

In my opinion, the other three members of the old “top four” have somewhat over-rated full backs but all of them have one thing in common: they have pace in abundance. Gael Clichy at Arsenal, Ashley Cole at Chelsea and Patrice Evra at Manchester United fundamentally rely on their pace to get themselves out of trouble at the back, or to make marauding runs forward beyond the half way line, and overlap with their wingers.

Insua, during his season in the first team gained a lot of experience and knowledge, and it was clear to see that he was learning from every game. There were however some errors on his part, which cannot be rectified no matter how many years of experience you have. Like any good full back, Insua enjoyed going forward and he had a fairly good cross on him. Unfortunately for the Argentine, every time he was caught out of position on a counter attack, his pace let him down, exposing the backline to attacks on the wing. Cole, Clichy and Evra would have been able to rectify such mistakes, but Insua couldn’t.

In most other European leagues, Insua could be a class full back, but not in the Premier League. The only way he could succeed at Liverpool is if the Reds opted for a deep line of four at the back, but I cannot see a manager such as Dalglish, who prides himself on having attacking full backs, ever taking to the Argentine if the Liverpool legend continues in his role next season.

he is miles better than Konchesky..but i would love us to have a great left back and his cover to be aurelio, like coentrao, cissokho, santon.aurelio is a very good left back, but we liverpool fans know that he is TOO injury prone. My Liverpool line up:
    Reina
    Kelly Skrtel Agger Coentrao
    Johnson Gerrard Meireles Cole
    Babel Torres
    Bench:Maxi,Kuyt,Carragher,Aurelio,Lucas,…

Finally someone that recognises Ryan Babel. He should be given a run in the starting 11. As far as Insua, he’s only 22, I rate him a lot more than Konchesky, I still pine for a John Arne Riise return, but I’d happily go into most games with Insua at left-back.

  • Edwin says:

I would have kept him he came through the ranks and played well. Struggled last season but quite a lot of players did! i think he should comeback and we increase competion for places which has been a big problem for us. I think Insua should play as LM and Fabio at LB I think that will be good strength and depth. Just a thought

Mr Tully insua was brought in to the first team at an early age and every one was raving about the boy the problems began when he was the only left full back available and suffered for this because when he needed to be taken out for a rest he there was no one available to step in his for went and he lost confidence you dont have the italian teams and turkish top team wanting to take the lad if he is rubbish lets see if any of these teams come in for koncheski I dont think so I would bring the lad back and let him find his feet again under Kenny because i still think he has a place at lfc.

insua is simply not good enough.
konchesky is simply not good enough.
    dossena was simply not goodenough.
    risse was distinctly average.
aurelio is injury prone and lightweight but has skill.
there are no wirse left back in the top two divisions the the first three mentioned above.
who scouted them ? who okayed them ? criminal neglegance.

  • Kenny says:

Mavinga should be given a chance at leftback instead of Insua. A fullback with no pace is a disaster.

  • n says:

haha, the deabte rages, he is way better than konchesky, rafa ran him into the ground when he was with us and he still looked decent = this my friends should be a no-brainer.

  • Jeff Jeff says:

let danny wilson fill in at left back with kelly rb and johnson rw. wilson’s naturally left footed and even has champions league experience. if he can cope in the champions league with rangers im sure he is able enough to play at lb in the premier league!

I would have been happy to see Insua go out on loan if we had brought in a decent left back such as Coentrao or Taiwo but we didn’t, Konchesky was brought in as his replacement.

Hodgson loaned Insua out in the summer when we had no fit left back, with Agger being forced to fill in. Konchesky is an absolute disaster and I don’t know how Hodgson thinks that he’s better than Insua. Not saying Insua is good enough to be our no.1 left back but he’s at least better than Konchesky. I also feel fans have been a bit harsh on Insua. He was forced to play the majority of the games last year because of Aurelio being injured and was brought in directly from the youth team so you can’t really expect too much from him.

What I would like to see now is Aurelio being our no.1 left back until the summer and Chris Mavinga being his deputy. Konchesky should be sold in the summer and we should bring in a young but quality left back like Coentrao or Taiwo.

  • Sorry says:

Once again lack of a LB was seen yesterday . If we had insua we might have nt played glen on LB. Got bring him bck plss he is just 23.

  • albey says:

well we are employing comolie or what ever his name is let him get off his arse and earn his pay check and find us these player we so desperatly need very quickly
