Why for me the return of the King is already working

|

During the summer when Liverpool were actively searching for a replacement for the recently departed Rafa Benitez, I was one of the fans who were intrigued to see what Kenny Dalglish could do for us if he were to be appointed. I missed Dalglish’s incredible contribution to Liverpool FC due to my age, but I have always been made aware of the fact that he is regarded as the greatest player to ever pull on a red shirt. I’ve spoken to older Liverpool fans about the type of football we played when under the management of Kenny Dalglish in the 80’s and it excited me.

One thing that has really impressed me is the reception that his appointment has received throughout the football world. Understandably, our own fans are absolutely buzzing with Dalglish’s arrival and this was typified just before the FA Cup defeat to Man Utd when the TV camera panned across the 9000 Liverpool fans and they were seen jumping up and down chanting Kenny’s name as if we had already won the match. Watching it kind of gave me a shiver but I was so happy at the sight of my fellow supporters being in such high spirits even during a season when we’ve had nothing to shout about at all.

Those scenes alone spoke volumes about how respected King Kenny is on Merseyside, but it wasn’t just that which reflected how highly regarded the former Scotland international is. Although we ended up losing Dalglish’s first game to Man Utd 1-0 on Sunday, I was impressed in the build up to the game by how many Man Utd fans actually acknowledged Dalglish as a step in the right direction for the club. Along with that, various managers and ex-Liverpool players have come out and spoken about just how good an appointment Kenny Dalglish is, and it has made me wonder why so many people seemed to be against us making him succeed Rafa Benitez in the summer.

If it wasn’t for the clown Purslow then we’ve had appointed Kenny in the summer or at least not Hodgson. Kenny may not be the long term solution as far as I’m concerned but he will at least turn our fortunes around this season. I’m sure he’ll be able to get something out of this season and push for at least a top six finish. Kenny’s able to motivate players and his team selection and tactics against Manutd (although we lost) was what I wanted and what I think is right. He knows the club inside out and most of the staff and the players and at least for the short term, he’ll get us back on the right track again. Let’s see where he takes us and if he does well why not hand him a longer contract in the summer?

Why dont Liverpool simply bribe the officials and the FA just like Man Hoof have been doing for the pat 18 years?.

  • Kenny says:

Without Phil Thompson, Dalglish’s reign will not succeed.

    • Eric says:

I agree that Phil Thompson should be appointed to assist Kenny but it’s not like Kenny’s not got anyone to help him. Sammy Lee’s his assistant and Steve Clarke has been appointed first team coach and also Dietmar Hammann might be appointed to help Kenny.

Why’s that then @ Kenny? Are you saying King Kenny lacks knowledge? Are you saying Sammy Lee isn’t as clued up as Thommo? or Steve Clarke? Don’t get me wrong i would like to see Thommo as his assistant aswell, but even if he doesn’t be his number 2 i still think Kenny will do his best and under him our performances will improve. I think its between Thommo and Ian Rush for the number 2 spot, probably Rush seen as hes worked along side Kenny for some time now……YNWA

so basically, what you’re saying is “i know nothing at all about football but wasnt the 5 minutes before the game on sunday warm and fuzzy! mmmmmm”
what a waste of space this was

    @Kenny…you are joking of course…v.funny 😉

I think it is good we employed Hodson. If we would of employed Kenny at the start of the summer, I think Liverpool fans would of reacted towards him like they did to Hodgson ( very negatively) but now due to Hodgson failing so miserabley all Kenny is going to get is positivity I think we will be ok now

You are assuming that Dalglish would have dragged us down in the manner RH did……ballsy call thatis

  • albey says:

Dave do you think kenny would of bought pullson / koncheski / and merrelis or even took joe cole I dont he would of brought in his own players and Iam prety sure they would have been better than that lot hodgson bought which would of ment a better team and a better start to the season and as for pusslow he was brought to the club as I was led to believe to raise finances for the club to pay the two idiot owners debts not sack or employ managers or have a say in which players stays or goes that has been one of the biggest problems in our decline when Mr Robinson left the club and parry was installed that was the start of the miss management dave . And I will assure you Dave the liverpool supporters would never have reacted to Kenny like they did to roy why because in his last season as lfc manager was showing signs of cracking up and this showed in his team selcetions the crowd never turned on him .

With S.Clarke as coach, I would like to see someone like Ronnie Whelae as assistant manager. I just dont think Sammy is adding and Whelan has good management experience in a few countries all be it outside the top tuier. He talks a lot of sense and Daglish rated him. Not sure though if he would want the job.

I am sure Rush and Kennie have a great relationship but I think Whealn has more experience and broader knowledge. Ian could be brought in to coach the strikers and help Torres.

I hope Kenny gets some results and some transfer backing, he is the man to take us back to the top and start challenging, and Man U and Fergie knows thar. Fefgie had not taken over from Liverpool was Kenny was on watch.

I feel some pride is already been restored and we will see progress and a performance ever week.
