I’ve never felt such apathy, I didn’t really care he had missed

|

Watching Torres’ shot fly over the bar on Wednesday night, I realised I was experiencing something quite strange as a Red: apathy.  I didn’t actually care all that much that Torres had missed; we were 3 nil down already, what did it matter now?  However Blackburn had scored their goals; whoever had scored them, no matter if there were any scapegoats that we could point to for individual errors, it didn’t matter.  At 3 goals down, with just 20 minutes to go it began to feel like it was all a bad dream and I wasn’t likely to wake up any time soon.

It felt as if we were approaching the end of something; you see games like this when a time is guaranteed to finish mid-table on the final day, they’ll play the whole 90 minutes out and you can tell the players are more concerned with where they’re heading off on holiday for the summer.  Most of our players looked the same way last night: like they’d thrown the towel in for the season and were winding down.  Watching Blackburn was like watching Sam Allardyce’s old Bolton team: strong, ugly and effective.  They hunted Liverpool’s players down in packs, winning the ball back and counter-attacking; always showing threats from set-pieces, except Sam Allardyce was sacked long before this game and Blackburn were operating with a temporary coach.  That didn’t stop them from embarrassing this Liverpool team though (even if the game did end 3-1, with a missed penalty). The worrying thing for me was that the players had the look of a team resigned to relegation. While that is probably unlikely, we are still only 4 points above the relegation zone and seemingly a world away from the top 4.

You could start throwing around the usual clichés of ‘no passion’, ‘no desire’, ‘the players don’t care’, etc. But this has become a much deeper issue; the players are lost, they seem to lack any kind of leadership or guidance. I wasn’t even angry watching them struggle last night; I actually felt sorry for them because the effort was there, the spirit had just been sucked out of them; sapping any chance of cohesion or direction. If you ask yourself how many times we’ve witnessed a performance lacking cohesion or direction this season, then the answer is far too many. Almost too many to count and this is the problem: the complete lack of authority and leadership that pervades the club has derailed our season and brought us to this point.

I know that feeling, I cant even be bothered to look at the results now, I cant believe how much apathy has crept into my soul!!!

Good one David. This is exactly how I feel
    as well. Depressed or what!

  • Kevin says:

I know the feeling David. I rather watch Liverpool on Football Manager. Atleast i get to manage them. Play my style of football. Liverpool is currently 5th in the league 4points off the top. We are tied with Manutd. That helps my heart right now

    any messiahs about?

  • Matt Castellian says:

Think we all feel the same. Not much activity on here today – we’re all shell shocked. Wish I could hibernate until next season

    • Jim Lynch says:

Agree. I haven’t bothered with the papers either. I’ve even given up moaning about the mess our club is in. BUT if one more person says to me “but Roy’s a nice fella” !!!

  • devon says:

well, u guys are better than i, really couldnt be bothered. have watched maybe 2 games this season (half heartedly at that). i recall a few season ago (under the much maligned but respected, by me anyway, Rafa Benitez)me screaming “passionately” at my tv urging our team to show me why it is I supported them and to my astonishment they did. they displayed an ember nay the nucleus what was possible…GREATNESS. (it was for all intents and purposes a random game not the one you may be thinking of)

However, this guy doesnt have the aptitude for greatness and neither will (or has) any team under him. this guy is no fighter he’s to willing to keep the peace…”k no pasionada”.

    • Matt Castellian says:

Very well said devon, but I will watch the next game and the next ….. and live and hope! I have never felt this low about our team. I am also a Rafa fan (wanted him to stay). David Tyrer is right when he says the spirit has been sucked out of the team.

I always want us to win, but i can’t help thinking that if we lose, it just might rid us of that chin rubbing t**t and his coaching staff. Liverpool fc will never walk alone, just Hodgson.

I’m a Blackburn fan, and I’ve seen LFC at Ewood Park maybe about 10 times over the years and last night was the worst performance of the lot by a long way. Didn’t look like a Liverpool side – couldn’t pass, no attacking intent, no passion. And the players don’t want to play for Hodgson. That’s apparent. Stevie G and Torres both looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. You will not get shut until after United but you will bin him off. He’s a nice bloke, I’m sure, and a decent manager. But not suited to big clubs. He couldn’t move us forward after Dalglish. And he can’t restore your fortunes either.

  • Colin says:

I was up at 4am to catch the game. I actually wanted Blackburn to score a few more goals. Sad but true. I believe the players are also trying to get him sacked. They have lost faith in him for a long time.

  • vinod says:

hodgson has put us in a situation were even managers dont want to come t lfc to manage..Remember jose morinho sayin”lfc is a special place to manage and it attracts evey manager”its gone….idont completely blame hodgson
benitez ,gillet and hicks…the down fall of liverpool…ynwa

love u steven gerrard..liverpool is life

  • Eric says:

I don’t even want to think about the match and it hurts to be in the position we’re in. Seriously, what else does Hodgson have to do to get sacked? NESV have to act quick and get rid of the clown before he drags the club further down.

  • Mick, Blackburn says:

    Jeepers, get a grip.

Welcome to the world of the majority of football fans. Is not as if you go to the games is it.

Just face it, there’s only one way that Torrid and Steeeeveee Geee will be playing Champions League next season…………..and it won’t be with Liverpool. Two words: Mourinho Madrid

    • Kev Crawford says:

Jeepers Mick, one word: Ronaldhino!!! Who exactly do you mean when you say “Is not as if you go to the games is it” ?

  • samuel charles says:

Mick well said, thats more the likely outcome because we now for some reason yet again, seem to have been given another set of very slow poor owners!!!

this is this case now to;-

effect our transfer targets,i mean we must look like the most unorganized football club in the world, why would anybody want to join us[players of class],we should just come out and say roy gone,we will have a manager on a temb basis till the summer and then we will bring in a young and dynamic manager, with cash to spend, and the prem is our priority;not hard is it,simples

  • Mick, Blackburn says:

    3-1

  • Mick, Blackburn says:

The odds for Owen Coyle that is, going by your prognosis Sam.

Long recognised as the “the next Shankly” since his time at St. Johnstone. Even I can acknowledge his credentials as a “messiah”………….he got Burnley into the premiership for god’s sake!!!!

There was a time before Shankly at Liverpool and that time really petered out after Roy Evans, notwithstanding what Houllier and Benitez brought. You took a chance with Shankly and I think you would be missing a trick if you didn’t go all out to get Coyle. At least it would shut Horwich Wanderers up!!!

    Kev
Don’t be jealous just because your club is run by tight-fisted Americans. I’d also wager that the vast majority of the posters on this thread don’t go to games.

  • STAN H says:

I SEE THE PRESS CONFERRENCE HAS BEEN CANCELLED, IF THE OWNERS HAD TAKEN MY ADVICE ON THESE BOARDS (I THINK THEY MONITOR THEM) TO BAN HODGSON FROM TALKING LIVE TO THE MEDIA, HE WOULD BE A FAR LESS DESPISED MANAGER, HE CANT HELP BUT SAY THE WRONG THINGS MOSTLY HURTFUL TO THE SUPPORTERS BECAUSE HE JUST DOSNT UNDERSTAND WHICH IS HARD TO BELIEVE FOR A SO CALLED INTELEGENT GUY, HE CAN SPEAK MANY LANGUAGES, THE PROBLEM IS HE TALKS S***E IN THEM ALL.

  • Raven says:

Thank you for putting it out there…..cant believe we all feel that way… such sorry state
