Rush: “The fans have got to be realistic”

|

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has said he believes that Kenny Dalglish can turn around the situation at Liverpool, but it won’t change overnight and is calling for fans to have realistic expectations for this season:

“Knowing Kenny, he went into this with his eyes open, he would have known what he was taking on when he accepted the job. He has watched Liverpool an awful lot, and no doubt had his opinions on what was required, so it is not as if he is coming in completely unprepared. It is a big task, and something he has already said cannot be changed overnight. The fans have got to be realistic in their expectations. But at the same time, he won’t be afraid to make tough, strong decisions, because he will know that changes have to be made in certain areas if the team is to improve and move forward as quickly as they need to in this current situation.”

Rush believes the senior players must take responsibility in Liverpool’s derby match against Everton, especially in the absence of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher:

“Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher will be missed but the likes of Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres and the other senior players know what these big games are all about. They know how much it means to the supporters. Reina as captain has a big role to play and his job is to sort his defence out. When Liverpool beat Aston Villa last month without Gerrard or Carragher others took responsibility and they have to do the same again.”

This week it is former Liverpool WAG Jennifer Ellison!
