The Most Stressful 12 Months in LFC History?

|

As much as I would only wish him well at whichever club he joins next, I cannot express how happy I was to see Hodgson go. It took too long to happen but it did and things began to look up. An improved derby performance, a few wins and some improved performances under our belts and it felt like we’d passed the worst. Then the unthinkable: our star man; the saviour, and the man around which our future was due to be molded decided that – despite the earlier announcement of the proposed signing of Luis Suarez – promises had again been broken and he wanted out.  I’m more inclined to believe that the imminent signing of Suarez had called Torres’ bluff (having not expected such big signings, thus justifying his desire to leave at the last minute) and he had no choice but to put in his request, as the promises were now being kept. It was a cowardly move and a huge disappointment for a player so warmly appreciated for so long.  ‘The Kid’ is gone though, and if his parting shot is anything to go by, so has his innocence; it’s been replaced by cynicism.  So with him gone, now is as good a time as any to start looking ahead; to a bright future.

Because if the last few weeks have taught us anything, it’s that we now have a group of owners that realize before success, before trophies, before increased profit margins, comes investment. Not just in terms of expenditure but also in time and effort and with some of the tough decisions they’ve made in the past few weeks (not to mention taking on board fan opinion), it is clear that a) they know how to run a business (and don’t kid yourselves, every football club is a business nowadays) and b) they appear to ‘get’ that for their business to be a success, they need us – the fans – onside.  The best way to do this is to make the decisions that will bring success and make the fans happy and continue spending money.  It’s not a nice way to think of the process of making our club successful again but in the cold light of day, that’s just the way it is.  So for all those fans that have bemoaned the signing of Andy Carroll and shown skepticism over the signing of Luis Suarez, the message is simple: support your club, support your manager and give full support to any new signings (whether they’re slightly overpriced, or not) because we’ve reached the lowest point already and things can only improve from here on in.

Agree with Vic – great article. The last few days have been more than stressful and by 11 pm Monday, I couldn’t have cared less who came and who went. Let’s just get on with it now and support our team.
