The Reason behind the anger towards “Fake” Torres

|

The reason for the great vitriol directed towards the Spaniard is because of the shock. There was no real indication that the player, who had stated on a number of occasions his loyalty to the Reds, would leave for a rival Premier League team. There was much greater anger towards Torres not only because of the player’s actions but because fans have allowed themselves to believe that the player was truly loyal.

The loyalty towards the player was no more aptly demonstrated than the excuses made for Torres’s poor form over the last 6 months. I myself have explained away his poor performances on: fatigue from the World Cup, recovery from a succession of injuries and the lack of service provided by the side under Roy Hodgson. I dismissed out of hand suggestions that he was considering his future, rather I chose to believe the long ball style under Hodgson was the reason behind his malaise. I was proven wrong, and this is where I will defend John Aldridge’s comments. The use of the words “fraud” and “fake” are harsh but they are manifested by the same naivety and consequent anger I had towards the player. The fans trusted him, he pledged his loyalty and we excused his poor form when in fact he wasn’t fully committed to the club anymore.

For the players however, there will be no such bitterness. Players like Carragher and Skrtel knew this was coming a long time ago and were not taken aback by the player’s demands to leave. They evidently knew Fernando Torres a lot better than the many millions of Reds fans around the world who thought they knew him too. “El Nino” was said to have a special connection with the fans and wouldn’t break this connection in anyway, it was thought. It has become apparent though that this connection was a “fake” and “fraud” as Aldo says, his priority was trophies and success over loyalty to the Anfield faithful. This is the root of the feeling of betrayal and why Reds fans won’t be so quick to assume loyalty from any player ever again.

i’ll forgive and forget……………forgive myself for loving him and forget he ever wore the shirt!

  • its better for him[torres]to make than staying and continue abouring things in his mind to the extend did played some games with his mind because his mind were no more there in the club, all what he was doing was to wait till closer to the opening of the window then he will start scoring goals so other club will come after him then he will disappoint us at the dying munite, all along our club problem started when they appointed ROY as a manager of our club LFC instead of mr,KENNY or RIJDKAARDS which i always write against it,surpose mr,KENNY was appointed long ago who knows if we could’ve been fighting for second or third place in the table.

I have no problem with a guy wants success and trophies. Its the reason why so many choose to become footballers. I do however have a problem with people who lie, inspire devotion and then leave a club in a precarious position to pursue only their own interests while sticking a finger at those who have shown such support.

Hi Dave with out sounding a smart arse I new he was ready to go last season when rafa subed him at B/ham and stevie Gerrard’s face was a picture he just didnt want to no after that he demanded an operation when we were playing athletico madreid his boyhood team in a semi final so he could be fit for the world cup he got injured in the world cup final knowing he was not fully fit did he give a dam about LFC no he did not he misses the start of the season and when he came back he just should never of been on the pitch he just never wanted to no Against spurs he missed three chances that he would bag with his eyes closed but I watched his face he had no emotion whats so ever about missing them glorious chances . I no it is hard playing the lone stricker and getting kicked but that is why he is paid so much money his mind was made up but the coward waited till near the end of the jan window to put his request to go in planed by his agent and chelsea i would’nt be surprised . I believe he has gone to the right club in chelsea full of ego’s and big heads like him I am honestly hand on heart really happy he has left our club he is a selfish arogant lying p***k and our club does not need people like him there . one last thing I do hope he was happy with the comments he made when he signed for chelsea they will be remembered for a very long time by us reds .

As when Masch left, I am very disappointed with the general reaction from the fans about Torres leaving. I won’t forgive him for the timing, but it was obvious to all he wanted to leave from the summer. When Rafa left Masch made it clear he wanted to leave, and I’m sure Torres and maybe even Reina and a few others weren’t too happy either, for many reasons combined. People forget too quickly why we had such a bad season last season, the biggest culprits imo were the owners and directors. I won’t delve deeper but the rot began from summer 2009, and Torres wanting to leave is quite understandable. It’s not like he left on a bosman or anything, we got 50 mill! and a lot of good memories from his time here, we thank him and move on. Who needs el nino when we now have el pistolero anyway 🙂

are you not listening to the fans paul? the anger is not because he left, it’s because of the lies and THE WAY he left! the anger is fully justifiedmate

  • kopite says:

Paul when masch left at least he was giving his all up till the day he left that coward didnt he left ten other men to carry him but the statement he gave only two weeks before he jumped ship was and is so insulting to our supporters, his team mates ,Roy hodgson, King Kenny and the new owners if your happy to forgive him paul that is your decision but I am more than sure there will be many many reds that wont forgive the coward he can win as many trophys as he likes but there is more to trophys there is being an honest, trustworthy loyal human being who,s word is his bond a man who is made wellcome were ever he may go so you polish your trophys torres

  • steve mcauley says:

so if the other players all knew, why did they (and the management) not DEMAND a level of professionalism from him? was team morale not more important than this prima donna.
don’t think i like these players coming out now saying they knew all along, they should have shown him the door but instead they are complicit in disrespecting the fans!

  • Sam says:

he couldn’t have lied about how he felt about LFC. you really think he could pull this lie off for 3 years? he even meant it back in august. i really don’t think he meant to leave in this way. I just know it. Did you notice how Liverpool publicized the bid from Chelsea? publicized his transfer request? they’ve never publicized the other bids from clubs before. something fishy went on…and I’m a bit disillusioned. I am an LFC fan, and I’m disappointed in Torres in how he has not said anything to the fans. Even his interview with Cheslea, he wasn’t taking a shot at Liverpool…he can barely speak english! Anyways, you should all read this article:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/sid_lowe/02/03/fernando.torres/

    • Jack says:

Sam his English does not have to be brilliant to mention the fans. I can understand sometimes certain sentences get misconstrued, although he has advisors etc to assist him but not explicitly mentioning the fans who were devoted to him from day one, is further evidence of his lack of grace. Even Mascherano who left gave it his all in the games leading up to his exit and the same with Owen. Torres on the other hand put in absolutely no effort, scowled in every game and for some reason played like the world class player we know his is, against Chelsea scoring 2 goals. Why also show his love for the fans and club and verbally commit himself to stay just 2 weeks prior to the transfer deadline?

      • Jack says:

BTW I read that article on sports illustrated yesterday and I can tell you the writer made so many excuses for Torres its untrue. I couldn’t be bothered to sign up to their site just to negate his arguments.

    • kopite says:

Sam are you sure you are a red lad ? he speaks perfect english he had english lessons and could speak it when he was on tv giving interviews to sky tv did you not see him say it was a dream to go to a big club a world club who have not wn the champions league at least paul konchesky has gone to a team that has won the european cup. It was torres agent that released his transfer request not liverpool fc christ fella what planet do you live on. your a bit disilluioned are you sam I wonder why ? and your disapointed torres has not said any thing to the supporters cant be bothered going on with you fella your either a 5 yr old child or an everton fan
