15 Wingers linked with Liverpool: Which would you go for?

|

It has been a year since we started this website and over that time Liverpool have been linked with an assortment of wingers. It is no doubt a position we need to strengthen and I have listed 15 below who have been linked with Liverpool since the site launched. If I have missed any out please feel free to remind me in the comments section below:

Alexis Sanchez (Attacking Midfielder/Wide Forward, Udinese) – The Chilean playmaker has been the subject of a £30m+ bid by an unnamed team, and with Man U, Liverpool and others circulated to be interested, it looks as if he could be moving from Udinese in the summer.

Ashley Young (Winger, Aston Villa) – His preferred destination is said to be Man United, but he has yet to sign a new deal with Villa and maybe available quite cheaply in the summer with only a year left on his contract.

Eden Hazard (Attacking Midfielder/Wide Forward, Lille) – Has recently signed a new deal with Lille, but this was most likely to up the value of the player in the transfer market. Big names such as Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the Belgian starlet.

Gervinho (Wide Forward, Striker, Lille) – The Ivorian has been linked with both Newcastle and Liverpool in recent weeks, and with Damien Comolli watching Lille in recently, speculation has grown that Gervinho could be his target.

Juan Mata (Attacking Midfielder/Winger, Valencia) – Last linked with Liverpool back in October, the Valencia midfielder is a very talented player and it will surely be only a matter of time before another club comes in for him.

Arda Turan (Winger, Galatasaray) – Has stated his desire to play for Liverpool in the past but the Turkish international has not been linked with the Reds since last summer, although many Reds fans would like to see him at Anfield.

Charles N’Zogbia (Winger, Wigan) – Constantly linked with a move away from the DW Stadium, the Frenchman has been on good form this season, and he has stated he will discuss his future at the end of the season.

Balasz Dzsudzsak (Winger, PSV) – The 24 year old Hungarian has been on excellent form in the Dutch Eredivisie this campaign with 15 goals. He has been told by his coach Fred Rutten to stay at PSV as he is not ready for a big league. At 24 though, if he isn’t ready now, he will never be.

Sylvain Marveaux (Attacking Midfielder/Wide Forward, Rennes) – Falsely quoted as being on the brink of a move to Liverpool, there is still a possibility though that the Frenchman may move to the Reds on a Bosman free transfer.

Dimitri Payet (Winger, St Etienne) – Possibly linked with the Reds because of Comolli’s previous affiliation with St Etienne, the player has also been linked with Chelsea in recent months.

Marko Marin (Winger, Werder Bremen) – An exciting young, skilful German international winger, and with Bremen struggling in the Bundesliga, he will most likely be looking for a move to a bigger club.

Aiden McGeady (Winger, Spartak Moscow) – The Reds have been linked with the former Celtic player in recent days.

Kwadwo Asamoah (Winger/Attacking Midfielder, Udinese) – A young exciting prospect for the future, the Ghanian has played well for Udinese this season as they currently lie 4th in Serie A

Andre Ayew (Wide Forward, Marseille) – Another young Ghanian, Ayew has been making a name for himself in Ligue One this season with Marseille.

Diego Perotti (Winger, Sevilla) – Linked with Liverpool today, the 22 year old Argentine has been in and out of the Sevilla team over the last few seasons. Arsenal have been linked with the player in the past.

    Honda?

    • stanley says:

honda is more of a playmaking attacking midfielder rather than an out and out winger…

      • The great singing man says:

Plays as deep playmaker (Alonso type)for CSKA, ultimate utility player but not natural winger.

        Yaomolosovic (Kiev)
        Pedro Leon (Real)
        Willien (Shaktar)

        Should be seriously considered.

  • Kenny says:

Albrighton of Villa and Gutierriesz of Newcastle would be more suitable to get the best out of Carroll.

  • Eric says:

Charles N’Zogbia would be a fantastic signing. Can play left, right and centre and has an amazing left foot. Plays for Wigan but already a French International and has been setting the Premier League alight for the past two seasons. The guy is quality and is proven in the Premier league unlike some of the ones mentioned who are just too small and lightweight to adapt to the physicality of English football. 10-12m for N’Zogbia is a bargain and at 23 he could only get better. Oh and you forgot Eljero Elia who was linked with us in January.

  • harry says:

It’s not as stupid question as it may first sound, but is young best played on the wing? This season he ahs been most successful for villa from the middle and even from the left he is predominantly right footed. I do not doubt he is a good player but i hope we get the natural balance of a left footed, left winger. It may not matter if we have an attacking inclined left footed full back overlapping but that is a whole other matter!

    • G says:

not a stupid question at all Harry..

young isn’t a winger..hence my own personal lack of enthusiasm over his proposed signing..

I’ve said umpteen times who i would prefer..but ulitmately it’s Mr Dalglish who will make the decisions in this regard (and the prosepctive targets obviously)

I just hope we can see a style of play that represents LFC..not the long ball ‘hoof it to Carroll’ type that we saw in midweek. I am choosing to believe that game was a one off (even though we’ve seen a few insipid displays this season), and that once we have greater quality brought in, then we can see the football we’ve all been waiting for..

One i would avoid however, would be this sanchez fella everyone keeps raving about. He’s far too overelaborate and even more expensive.. It wouldn’t equate to spend that amount of money on him. I’m hearing prices of £30 mil being quoted..not for me.

  • stan howard says:

raheem stirling will be better than any of them next season, toni silva could make it as well.

  • steve says:

    Reina
    Johnson Carragher Subotic Taiwo
    Gerrard Adam
    Suarez Meireles Dzsudzsak
    Carroll
    or
    Reina
    Johnson Carragher Subotic Taiwo
    Sanchez Gerrard Meireles Dzsudsak
    Suarez Carroll
The 2nd formation against lower teams to break through their attack while the 1st is against more difficult games…any of these two would do!!YNWA

    Honda

  • kostas says:

i’ve seen most of the players playing.
peroti was all the money against barcelona when he came in…quick, unstoppable and won’t cost a fortune.Hazzard is a player who i belive can crack any defence…very talented player and tricky.
Sanchez is a great player, but with a huge price tag. Finally balasz is the best player of the dutch football league and we know that footballers from netherlands can easily adapt in the english game. So, as u see, i prefer those 4 and i’d love to have 2 of them in liverpool.

  • kostas says:

i’d prefer hazzard and perroti or ballasz.Young, skillfull and for the future..and can cost less than sanchez…have your say

  • kostas says:

i am also a supporter of paok thessaloniki. We have a winger whom i think would be a bargain. If only kenny could see some of his skills and some of the games he played this year and last year.
just have a look. And, i agree, he plays in a weak championship, but he’s a regular player in all portugal national teams.just watch

    • G says:

      I checked out the clip..

where youtube usually makes footballers look like gods..it seems to have done the opposite for this dude.

He appears to be highly adept at falling over and missing the target when shooting.

On the plus side he does appear to have pace, but speed and no aim or direction wouldn’t be a great recipe for us right now. I don’t imagine KK wanting to get involved.

  • kostas says:

    kenny…hope u’ll have a look

  • jefriez says:

    please buy sanchez n turan…

  • stanley says:

you’ missed quite a lot of wingers namely, ebrahim afellay, adam johnson, antoine griezmann, matt jarvis, eljero elia…
i wud like to see two wingers signed this summer, one wud be the free transfer of marveaux and the second cud be either of hazard, young or marin…
n’zogbia wud also be a cheap but gud option whereas sanchez, though gud, wud be too costly..

  • daboy says:

Being realistic i would look at 3 wingers 1being Marveaux the others are Albrighton and Ayew who can also play as a striker.
If they were all free i would take Sanchez and Marin in a heartbeat.

  • Andy says:

Eric just a couple of corrections/points clarified N’Zogbia is 24 born 26/5/1986 so he’d be 25 before he could move. Secondly while he is a French international he has ONE half of international football in a 2-1 friendly defeat to the international powerhouse that is Norway, so hardly a regular more like a let’s see erm no thanks. I don’t agree with you on him either, decent but not what we are after. If we could get Marin I’d be delighted. I also voted for Sanchez, I have a feeling NESV will want to make a real statement of intent this summer. It’ll only happen if we’re spending over £80 million this summer as there are a lot of needs 3 defenders CB/LB(s) DM, 2 wingers and a striker. So I’d hazard a guess Marveaux will be coming.

  • Jay Wright says:

Sanchez and Hazard are the best players there, but with their current reputations and our current status I’m sure that they’d be looking to join a club with more obvious, short term prospects of success. Likewise with Mata, I’m sure that he’ll be aiming higher also.

Their prices would also be prohibitive seeing as we need to bring in three quality pacey widemen, not just one.

Getting rid of Maxi, Kuyt, Cole and Jovanovich would open up space for Elia, Gervinho AND Marveaux (free!!) thereby massively improving our attacking options and flexibility to play with wingers or 3 man attacks, while also maintaining quality options on the bench also. All this with a marginal transfer spend if any, much like the swap of Torres & Babel for Carroll & Suarez

    • G says:

      they won’t sell Kuyt…

i’m a massive gervinho fan..i agree fully with what you said about bringing in players to allow us the option to play with wingers..or 3 up front, as that is how i’ve been hoping to see us play. I’ve been having the exact same daydreams..

  • Dee says:

Free transfers just don’t cut it @ lfc. Turan n sanches/hazard will do.

  • stan says:

Personaly, I’d sell alot of players, maybe even gerrard, while we have the chance to get a good price. If real madrid are willing to pay 30mil+, I would sell gerrard 30 and bring in some young talent. At the end of the day you need to make hard decisions sometimes. If we want to keep up with the top teams, we’re gunna have to do some realy smart buisness in the transfer season, hope we do, YNWA.
