Aldo: The Dead Wood at Anfield which needs to be moved on

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes Kenny Dalglish has a lot of dead wood to move on in the summer if the club are to be competitive again. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldo said:

“The defeat at West Ham was a reminder of just how big the job is at Liverpool. Kenny Dalglish has transformed the side’s fortunes in two months. We were never going to go eight games unbeaten under Roy Hodgson but it’s clear the squad really needs strengthening this summer. We’ve still got players like Philipp Degen, Emiliano Insua, Nabil El Zhar and Alberto Aquilani on the payroll. Plus there’s other dead wood at Anfield which needs to be moved on. Dalglish is going to have to deal with that. They need to be cleared out to boost the pot he’s got to bring players in.”

Aldridge also praised Luis Suarez for his display against West Ham:

“He’s the type of player who is going to capitalise on teams tiring – that was certainly the case against West Ham. Suarez never stops and he’s going to get a lot of late goals in games. He made the goal for Glen Johnson with a great piece of skill and was unlucky not to score himself. It’s still early days for Suarez as he adapts to the English game but he will have gained from the experience.”

Well said Aldridge but Aquilani is not dead wood, he is class, quality player who will shine under Dalglish if he is given a fair chance.

An Injury free fit Aquilani at Anfield in the summer will complement and compete with Gerrard and Meireles.

The dead woods at club are Jones GK,Krygiakos CB, Degan RB, Insua LB, Koncheskey LB,Aurelio LB( Great player but 80% Of every season out Injured/poor/pointless) POULSEN DM/CM, LUCAS CM/DM, Jovanovic RW/LW/AM, M Rodriguez LW/RW/AM, J Cole AM/LW/RW, EL Zhar RW/LW, D Kuyt RW/LW/FD and D Ngog FD.

Thats 13 dead wood players on the books, getting paid week in week out by our club who are simply not good enough to wear the shirt.

All these 13 players would struggle to get into the likes of Stoke, Blackpool, Bolton, Newcastle, Sunderland, Birmingham, Wolves, Blackburn and Aston Villa.

So i do not know how they are still at club, if club wants to compete for trophies year in year out with the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham and Man City. The 13 dead wood/ mdeiocre/average at best players need to be shipped out/on in the summer and replaced with 9 class, hungry players who are fit to wear shirt.

But owners will need to back King Kenny heavy with £100M of their money and whatever money king kenny can bring in for the 13 dead wood players on the clubs books.

Kuyt is Hard worker, Loyal, Fighter, Determined, But offers very little as a forward or as a winger at club. His goals to games ratio is poor to say the least, considering since he joined club he has been starter in 90%+ of games.

Lucas has improved but at best, he is average.

There was a time when we had 3/4 Class,Tough, solid, combatitive Defensive midfielders at Club: Hamman, Alonso, Sissoko and Mascherano.

And we always could dominate in the centre of park/midfield with players of their class/calibre.

Now we have Lucas and Poulsen as our defensive midfielders who are simply not good enough breaking up play and dominating in centre of park, they do not protect back four and they do not dictate tempo of games either.

    Hey,
Can we all be adults about the Lucas situation. He is just not good enough. A decent squad player, who has had some fine games, but all too often he is terrible. I can only remember one assist from him(granted a good one) this season, but whenever I watch him with friends who tell me how bad he is just for the sake of it, he rarely proves them wrong. I’m not saying we should gang up on him, and turn our backs, but this silly spouting from some quarters that he has been one of our best players al season is nonsense! He has been good in a handful of games. Still, I think he should be kept as a squad player as he still can grow in to a great player.
Along with most of the usual suspects listed above, Kuyt has reached the end of his road. He just gives the ball away too often, and he has no dynamism.
Well that’s my two cents anyways.

The majority of Liverpool fans know Lucas is not good enough but there’s a few fans who call themselves true fans ( just because they don’t criticise players) want to stick up for him.
Lucas is a hardworker but apart from that has nothing else.

Praising poor players doesn’t make them any better, so all yous fans ( who call yourselves true fans) are doing more harm than good, by thinking some players are good enough when they are not

Why is everyone saying get rid of him, and him, and him. Let’s buy silky players with skills galore.

Firstly, Real Madrid tried this already. Galactico’s with huge price tags don’t necessarily make a good team.

Forget about selling half the first team squad that YOU don’t think are good enough to wear the shirt. It just won’t happen.

It’s all about the role each player has and how they fit together as a team. Look at Greece in Euro 2004. Otto Rehhagel picked a squad that could play as a team.

Kenny will off-load players that don’t fit or don’t give an additional dimension to the team.

Whether you like him or not Kuyt is a player that will do a job that not many others do, and that’s make defenders wary and forces the defensive line back. He’s not a great passer of the ball, and he’s no winger, but his ability to upset a defense and do it for 90 minutes allows other team members to move forward. He also closes players down and stops them from playing the easy ball out.

As for Lucas, well, I’ve lost my voice through shouting at him sometimes. However, he’s not a defensive midfielder…..end of! The guy has been forced into a holding role and it just doesn’t work for him. I’d like to see him come off the bench and replace Gerrard…..after the game has been won of course, and see what he can do further up the pitch.

Meireles was originally put into a holding role too and it didn’t work and then he was moved to the wing to ‘fill in’ and suddenly he got a chance at a goal and that was that (attacking midfield here we come).

I agree on Ngog though. Looked to be improving significantly at the begining of the season…..but even i’m getting sick of the ‘air shots’. It’s just not funny anymore.

Apart from Aquilani I’d agree with Aldo that all the other senior players on loan could leave without having any impact on the team as they have never been fully part of the first team anyway.

We have a serious left back problem and no true cover for the right back position. For both positions we need out and out defenders if we are going to play 4-4-2 again. Johnson for me is more of a right midfielder/winger than a right back and should be given more chance to show this. Left wing is also a major problem and for any attacking position that needs filling, this should take priority.

So if Aquilani comes back into the squad, we need a left back, right back and a left winger at least.

I love the way half you want to get rid of the whole squad, you really are clueless, one person sujested only keep 10 players from the current squad and replace them with younger better players. So thats 15 player at £15 mil a pop a few at £20 mil, thats around £255 mil, we need 5 players tops and 5 current starters move to the bench and 5 from the bench to reserves.
