The Injury List Gets Longer & Longer But who can replace them?

|

Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool face up to Man Utd at Anfield on Sunday at 1.30 pm with several injury problems. Martin Kelly is definitely out for at least a month following the hamstring injury he picked up in our defeat at West Ham.

Raul Meireles, our chief goal-getter of late, is another major doubt after picking up a knee injury on Sunday, while Kyrgiakos and Daniel Agger are also doubts with head and groin injuries. On top of that, left back Fabio Aurelio is out with a adductor strain.

It is unclear whether record-signing, Andy Carroll, will make his long-awaited debut for the Reds, he is still a bit short on match-fitness, but the biggest problem for the Reds lies in our midfield. Teams have worked out how to play us, by flooding the centre with hard-working midfielders.

If Kenny is to get the job full-time in the Summer then his priority must be a midfield enforcer. The petulent Mascherano did a great job for us there, but, like Xabi Alonso, he hasn’t been properly replaced. We have a good defence and a potentially great attack but we need shoring up in the midfield and young Lucas, improved as he has, is still not the answer.

Gerrard Adam and Meireles in midfield? – All three are attacking midfielders, – who’s going to be a holding/defensive midfielder seeing as there’s also three upfront?

      • Mark says:

also the article above says Agger and Meireles are doubts for this Sunday, – if they’re out the only back four we could put out is Johnson, Carragher, Skrtl and Wilson.

adam is the best alonso replacement…but still we need that one worldclass CREATIVE midfielder other than steve g plus ashley young, eleia, gervinho…huge selecion dilema ahead..i think lucas and kuyt are the players to make way

Now is the time to move Stevie back into a holding midfielder. I’ve said for years that as soon as he starts to lose his legs, we had an excellent playmaker in front of the back four and clearly this season, his legs have gone. He simply cant cover the ground he used to.

Steve Clarke just said that Raul Meireles was taken off only as a precautionary measure and he will most probably be fit for Sunday while Daniel Agger and Fabio Aurelio are expected to be fit. If that is true then my team against the scums on Sunday would be:
    Reina
    Johnson Carra Agger Aurelio
    Kuyt Lucas Gerrard Cole
    Meireles
    Suarez

Subs:Gulacsi Skrtel Soto Poulsen Maxi Jova Pacheco

Lucas is definitely an answer, he only needs help as gerrard is too indisciplined to play defensively, and is becoming slow due to age. we need more central midfield players as lucas is the only one we have content to do the job right now. kenny should also use the rest of the squad as some player are playing too many games. rotation is important as rafa used to. i dont believe that if ngog, jovanovic and maxi had started we wont have lost 3-1. we would have had a draw minimum.

  • Kenny says:

It was serious incompetence from Dalglish,Clarke and Bruckner to play Kelly last Sunday after he went off with a twinge in his hamstring against Sparta. Anyone with their experience should know that 2 weeks rest was always the treatment for a strained hamstring and by playing the guy too soon a hamstring tear was always going to occur especially for a guy playing in the wingback role that requires so much running.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
