Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Young is flattered to be linked with teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United. Talking to the Sunday Telegraph, he said:
“It’s always nice to be linked to those teams but I’m an Aston Villa player, I’ve got a year left of my contract. I’ve always said that I’m an ambitious person. To play in the biggest competitions, the European Championships, the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cups, the World Cup, the Euros, I want to play in them all. From the time I started playing football it was all about winning trophies and being the best player I can. If you were to ask, I think every player would want to win trophies and titles and medals. I’m no different. I’m ambitious like any other person who’s in football. If you were to ask any player why they are in football for they would say to win trophies.”
Young didn’t rule out staying at Aston Villa though:
“I’ve always said we will talk about contracts at the end of the season. I want to concentrate on football. I have never said that Villa haven’t convinced me to stay, or that I can’t win things here.”

I used to really want us to get him but I’ve gone off of Young over the last year or so – he seems to have lost some of that buzz and sharpness that he had when he first broke through at Villa. Maybe it’s a consequence of his change in position, but I’d prefer that we look elsewhere and avoid taking that risk now…
