Aldo: Nearly 100 players in 10 years not worthy of the shirt

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes the Reds have had its fair share of poor players over the last decade. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, he said:

“Some people have accused me of picking on players or being hyper critical. But if there’s someone I don’t think is worthy of wearing the red shirt I won’t shy away from saying it. And over the past 10 years we’ve probably had nearly one hundred players who fit into that category. Dalglish has done a brilliant job since he took over in January with what’s available but he hasn’t got enough good players. If we want to compete against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League next season we need to go out and buy the best. You don’t just settle for having okay players who might do a job for the side. You go out and buy tried and trusted players who are top drawer. Some fans need to take a good look at some of the players in the squad and ask ‘would they get a game for any of the sides in the top four?'”

Aldo believes quite a few players need to be moved on this summer:

“It’s going to be hard to get rid of some of those on the fringes because they are on top wages but we have to try. As an ex-manager and an ex-player, I know what needs to be done. I’ve talked about it with other ex-Liverpool players and we all agree. If we want Liverpool to get back challenging for the title then there’s a lot of business that needs to be done. The dead wood needs to be shifted. People have to realise where we are now and where we want to be. Saying the squad isn’t good enough isn’t disloyal. We’ve got to be ruthless.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Jennifer Ellison!

YNWA Aldo..agree with you 100% but it’s not only 100 players,it could be more!!i’m kiddin but it’s not time for jokes right now.the likes of Poulsen,Jovanovic,Joe Cole,Kyrgiakos,Aurelio,Insua,Koncheksy,Jones,Agger(top player but his injuries mean 10 games every season),Maxi Rodriguez,El Zhar..all these should go.i’d rather have Aly Cissokho than Konchesky,Insua,Aurelio.i’d rather have Rolando than Agger,Kyrgiakos and i’d rather have Ashley Young than Maxi,Joe Cole,Jovanovic,El Zhar.simple as that.i’d give N’Gog a chance on loan on a premierleague team like Birmingham,Stoke…etc and see if he progresses well or not.he is 21 years old and i am a bit sceptical about him,we’ll see.First things first,Give Kenny the job.then give him money for transfers and we’ll see.if FSG dont appoint Kenny as manager, hell will rise again at Anfield!!Give him the job cauz he wants it,he deserves it and we all Liverpool fans want him to become a Liverpool manager permanently…YNWA

Aldo is telling the truth. We have seen the impact a genuinely top class player like Luis Suarez can have on the team. Three or four more signings of his quality and we can be champions.

But we need quality, not maybe players. We have seen too many of them fail in the last decade.
