“‘Liverpool will regret your departure’, were his last words”

|

Former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has stated that Steven Gerrard told him that the club would regret the Dutchman’s departure from the club:

“Liverpool have not made full use of my skills. It was the same under Rafa Benitez as it was with Roy Hodgson. I think Kenny Dalglish would have given me a fair chance. Steven Gerrard was a great inspiration. He often said that I should not give up. When I left Steven also said to me that he was convinced of my qualities and I still can be a big player. ‘Liverpool will regret your departure’, were his last words he said to me.”

Babel has scored one goal in 16 matches since departing for German club Hoffenheim.

This week it is former Miss World and LFC fan Rosanna Davison!

  • Eric says:

With his speed and energy Babel is a nuisance for defenders and how could Roy possibly prefer Ngog to him. Babel has delivered when he played up front as shown against Trabzon and Villa earlier this season when he scored when he was given a chance. But what do you expect him to do if he sits on the bench for the whole match or plays just the last 3 minutes of a match? I hope he does well in Germany and make us regret selling him. Plus, selling him for just 6million is a joke.

  • Karim says:

Love babel but love Rosanna Dawson even more!!

  • lfc_nut says:

The last sentence in the article says it all 😉

  • Ryan says:

    Eric

Are you talking about the same Ryan Babel or the one in your team on the P3?

Awful player…..the quality of a player is not judged on one thing he does every twenty matches it’s what he does consistently….have you ever stopped to think why he was on the bench so often? He helped fund the Suarez deal…that’s about the only good thing he did for us! WE don’t regret selling him.

  • Pedro says:

Babel had everything a perfect striker needed….except a footballing brain. Thierry Henry – brilliance = Ryan Babel.

  • David says:

Babbel has the worst touch out of any professional footballer I have seen, I am not exaggerating. No wonder why there has been 1 goal in 16 games. Gerrard is our captain, every player in the dressing room says he is a role model. Of course he is going to tell Babbel that, that is the type of person he is

    • Rupurt says:

Marcus Babbel did have poor touch, but he was a defender so what do you expect.

  • Dave Ess says:

Agree with Pedro. The club knew this and did persevere with him for some time.

Have it on good authority that a weeks training went something like this…

Mon – “Ryan, we want you to get the ball, run down the wing, get to the bye line and cross it in”
Tue – “Ryan, we want you to get the ball, run down the wing, get to the bye line and cross it in”
Wed – “Ryan, we want you to get the ball, run down the wing, get to the bye line and cross it in”
Thu – “Ryan, we want you to get the ball, run down the wing, get to the bye line and cross it in”
Fri – “Ryan, we want you to get the ball, run down the wing, get to the bye line and cross it in”
Sat – 2nd minute, gets the ball, cuts inside and is tackled to the sound of loud groans from the bench !!

    • Jay Wright says:

@ Dave Ess – You have to start games to be playing in the 2nd minute…

    • Eric says:

Babel is a right footed player and is not an out-and-out winger so he’s not suited to running down the wing and crossing the ball with his left foot. His biggest threat was cutting in and shooting. Plus, why are you saying 2nd minute when Babel only gets to play the last 2 minutes of games.

  • chris says:

    Agree with last comment.
he had no left foot, always came inside.
    Similar movement to Ashley young.
But did he realy get a chance to play right wing.
The best games I remember was when he played right wing and Penent played left. only happened a couple of games.

  • redfan23 says:

Agree he might have been better given a run on the right. Still think he ran into blind alleys. Head down and didn’t know where others were. Not reallt good enough for us

  • SS says:

lol, he was supposed to come inside on his right foot. thats why he played on the left.
if they wanted him to put crosses in all day they would of used him on the right.
as someone said he funded suarez deal so thanks Ryan.

  • Nathan says:

Ryan Babel’s assist rate was very poor because his ball retention and distribution reflected his lack of footballing intelligence. His goalscoring rate was even worse because he lacked composure in possession of the ball. Can those who believe he has the raw talent to be a great player explain why the best judges of talent in the world passed up the opportunity to sign him for £6m a few months ago? It is a myth that Babel was an untapped resource. HE JUST WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH

  • Me says:

Well, Stevie (with Purslow’s help) also signed Joe Cole, so I think we should be glad he’s not in charge of our scouting/recruiting.

  • Nathan says:

Steven Gerard did not sign Joe Cole, with or without the help of Christian Purslow. If Gerard did offer words of encouragement to Babel then that is appropriate and fitting for the club captain. Although Babel never earned a regular place at Liverpool he remained loyal and respectful and so deserved some encouragement from his captain on leaving.

  • wazio says:

he plays good 1 in 10 games

  • Jack says:

Gerrard was a great footballer but not the brightest so no need to worry lads!

  • JeepersCREEPERS says:

I remember there was this game at Anfield couple of seasons ago, versus Derby county, (Wasn’t it?).. We won 6-1 on the day, and, Babel came on to score this cheeky goal! LOL ;D
Talk of Babel’s footballing intelligence and that goal will simply give you all the answers! Just had me speechles! And, i kept on replayin it in ma head all night long! That was one of his first games and what an awesome piece of skill it was.. That was the Babel we signed.. Full of sheer potential and confidence!:) Not his wasted clone that Benitez left to ruins because of his, “I’m the only man here!”, policy.. Babel, like Didier Drogba is a player who needs a manager with a good sense of player management.. Benitez did not have that.. I mean, the guy was only 20 years of age coming to the Premier League. He should have had that extra protection to motivate him! He needed a clever manager with some sense of personal touch.. A Kenny Dalgish! Too bad, he did not get that! End of story! 🙂

    • Lfc4Life says:

      Benitez didn’t have what?? Lol

Double check what Rafa has achieved in football, without those qualities you mention… And think about the rubbish you just wrote :/

  • James says:

Loved Ryan Babel. Whenever he came on, he did what Dave Ess said, but rather than always tackled he managed to get a shot away. At least he attempted to add some spark. If he had no left foot, then why the hell deploy him on the left side of midfield? he would have received an even bigger groan for putting his cross into the Kop. He was deployed in an area he is not used to, left-wing. I remember him for his better games, where he was deployed close to Fernando. For example, first season, Derby, scored 2 good goals. Arsenal in champions league, caught them on the break and not only ghosted past Fabregas like he wasn’t there but left him on his backside to put us 4-2 ahead. He failed to live up to his potential because he was squeezed out the system. Through no fault of his own, but he had a great first season with us. I hope he turns round to prove us wrong, he was Liverpool through and through.

  • Phil says:

Steven Gerrard was merely being polite.

  • cozinoz says:

Should’ve stayed as a reserve striker instead of Ngog. Was never really given enough minutes in his best position.

  • tony says:

i do not agree with stevie g i think babbel had more than enuth chances at anfield 2 show his skills & he did in glimpses but not consistent
    y.n.w.a.
