Wigan manager Roberto Martinez believes James McCarthy has the talent to go all the way and play for a Champions League club. The Irish international was linked with Liverpool before his move from Hamilton, and has again been linked with the Reds in recent months, along with Chelsea and Tottenham:
“Nobody is going to stop his step to the next level eventually. I have no doubts James is going to play at the highest level of European football.He’s going to be involved in Champions League football because he’s got that talent – but it’s the timing that is so important. It has to be right. He was playing in the first team at Hamilton at the age of 15 and did not leave them until he achieved his potential with them.”
Martinez believes he should stay at Wigan for the short term though:
“I feel he has a little bit longer here to experience a few different things before he moves on. But we’ll be the first ones to be proud and delighted for James when he moves on because he’s been a real ambassador for Wigan.”

Liverpool need to sign James McCarthy as soon as possible cause this guy is a real talent. Kenny needs to forget about Charlie Adam and sign McCarthy, who in a couple of years time will be a much better player than Adam and one of the best midfielders in the league. Kenny and Comolli should seriously do everything they can to snap this guy up this summer before the likes of Chelsea come sniffing around.
