Hopefully we will see him again one day

In an interview with LFC TV, former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso stated he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of playing for the Reds once again in the future:

“Why not? I think that in football so many things change, and why not? I have my red passion and if circumstances arrived then why not? At the moment I don’t know what is going to happen, but it could be a possibility. Never say never.”

At 29 years of age, Alonso hasn’t got that many years left at the top of his game but it seems he may like to have a swansong back at his old club sometime in the future if he was given the opportunity.

The circumstances surrounding his departure were controversial, and I am not going to discuss them here because they are now irrelevant in regards to the future (any comments below debating this issue will be deleted as I haven’t got the time to moderate an argument which may well go long into the night), but I think it is fair to say that we have certainly missed him over the last couple of seasons.

Certainly his best season came in his last campaign for the club when the Reds were challenging for the title, and he was the integral conduit for both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to receive the ball further up the pitch. Without needing to go deep to find the ball, players such as Gerrard knew that Alonso would pick him out with his pin point accurate passers. The Basque was just as accurate at pinging a 40 yard diagonal ball as he was passing short a few yards to a team mate.

Alonso is not passed it, just give gerrard a call and ask him and his agent what they think of xavi.

Just ask pepe reina and Fernando torres and most of the spain team and their circle of friends what they think of Xavi Alonso, i think you will get your reply.

Alonso is four times the player that henderson is and will be, he is far greater still in talent and passing of theball, for me alonso is worth a fee of around 12- 14 mill for a 3 year deal, just because a player is not 22 – 25 years of age, means that we cant or should not buy a fit 29 year old who has seen and done it all.

    Alonso should be brought back for 3 years now and we should drop henderson and wickham and downing deals and sign;

mata cissokho and alonso, then go all out and over pay if need be for aguero, thats the best we could hop for, but this henderson deal for close to 20 mill is a disgrace…..

Alonso is truly a top player and i have no doubts he would star if he were to come back but the club are undertaking a youth policy.
To go forward the club needs to bring in top quality younger players, the rebuilding phase is not supposed to bring the club fantastic instant results.
This said most of us are praying 4 champions league qualification next season.

rubbish, we have some money, we want and need champions league football, we need a bigger ground or build onto anfield all that = having better players and its simple as that.

Untill liverpool start spending on proven better quality players rather then taking gambles on really young unproven players that will be a non starter.

Yes youth and young players are good, but ony if they back it up. its time to start buying quality and even if that means 3 players rather then 6 average ones then so be it.

This rebuilding rubbish is what we make it and the more we keep talking rebuilding then we will not be in the mind set to go anywhere or win anything.

wake up fans and the board just buying the odd younger english player and over paying for them will get us no where fast and i know so?

Sam you cannot repair the damage done by the former owners in 1 season all great sides are built over time.
Just remember they can only spend so much it is called fair play rules.

  • omg xabi alonsio is the best
