In Kenny We Trust. This is Why:

|

In terms of youth talent and being able to take punt on unknown quantities, Kenny can point at the examples of Jaime Redknapp and Steve Staunton (a player scouted for Liverpool while playing in the Irish League aged just 17).

The list goes on and on and although there are a few blips assigned to Kenny’s record (David Speedie and Jimmy Carter to name a couple), the above shows that he can be trusted to make the right signings to get us back into the Champions League and, in time, equip us to fight for the title again. Therefore, though we may despair at the potential sale of Raul Merieles and constant links to players we think have average records at their current clubs, we can comfort ourselves in the knowledge that we have one of the few managers with an instinct for a top player and a natural knack for giving us, the fans, what we want.

Finally, no article on Liverpool’s transfer policy would be complete without a mention of Damien Comolli. His record is harder to gauge, as the managers he works with are always likely to try to take credit for his successes and will firmly will pass the buck back to him for their failures. As recently as last week Martin Jol, the new Fulham manager, was quoted as saying “I took Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon to Tottenham. Comolli took Benoit Assou-Ekotto”.

One thing is clear however: no signing will have been made without Comolli giving it the green light. Therefore, if he is to be constantly reminded of the signings he has sanctioned that have not been successful, he should also be credited with those that have. Unlike Dalglish however, Comolli still has to earn credit with the Liverpool fans, but this process has already got off to a great start with the signing of Luis Suarez in January.

So – so far so good with the Kenny and Comolli combination. Despite the eye-brow raising transfer rumours we must endure this summer, it’s a partnership that I think we will grow to trust.

I look forward to receiving your comments and a reminder of any astoundlingly good/bad/ugly Dalglish signings I may have missed!

Good article, although i like Raul he isnt the strongest at holding off players, although his shooting makes him look invincible we need some steel in midfield (stronger even than the ever improving Lucas)and to me Adams looks like that kind of player (McMahon-style)or even Casey for the guy`s who go back further,BUT in Kenny we do trust cant wait to see us win more games with less of the draws.

we are not content at signing wickham at 12mil. ’cause we have so much money we hope to sign him at 36mil in Jan 2012. where are the news on liverpool signing mata? can someone pls do something?

David Speedie was not a bad signing (check out his record when is was a the club). He just came at the wrong time when kenny quit a few weeks later, Souness didnt fancy him and shipped him out of the club.

I would not be surprised if Liverpool weren’t even interested in 98percent of the players reported in the media. All is very quite within the club and this is a good sign but it has the media blowing out all kinds of rubbish. I think we will be surprised when the eventual transfers do arrive. I for one do trust Kenny.

We can’t sign Wickham for 12 Million, but we buy Carroll for 35 million!!
    Madness if you ask me!

I’mnot sure Carroll will ever be a 35 million player!!

  • zahid says:

I think we’d rather have an established proven experienced striker like Lavezzi then Wickham, he maybe one for the future.

  • Gerrardious says:

@Teflon: u almost sound like Wickham is ur younger brother.
But seriously, since when did clubs purchase players for the future at more than 5m?
u expect us to sign a player who has neva played in any senior league for 12m??
    why? bcos he’s English??
We will get a lot of players who will deliver instantly for much less.
    hi Zahid

Carroll was only £35M due to circumstance and Abramovich. He.would never have been that much if Torres wasn’t for sale at £50M. Bottom line is that only £2-3M was actually spent in January for Suarez and Carroll. The £35M argument is redundant. It was an absolutely unique situation with hours to go before the end of the transfer window with £50M burning a hole in our pocket and Carroll being the only available target man in Europe. The context is so unique, any comparison is useless. Let it go idiots.

i completely agree wid u ..off all the people u have explained the business done in january by liverpool in buying suarez n carol is describes very well by you..100% agree wid u on that 1..

Spurs bid 21 mill only a week before we bid for Carroll and it got rejected and Chavski were also interested before they came in for Torres in Jan.So in the end we would have still paid alot for Carroll……YNWA
