In Kenny we trust. Those are the words Liverpool fans the world over are uttering to themselves as we are linked on a daily basis to a new player that we know little about or to a player that has a modest track record at best. Ever since the signing of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for a figure in the region of £16m – £20m (depending on which paper you read), queries have been raised (mainly from those who support other clubs) as to the direction of Liverpool’s current transfer policy and whether we are being asked to pay over the odds for players that have not proven themselves to be worthy of a place in our starting line-up.

Most recently, eye-brows have also been raised at the possible sale of Raul Meireles (a player who embodied Liverpool’s re-assurgance under King Kenny – discussed in depth in Jason Proctor’s excellent article of 27 June on Live4Liverpool.com). More alarming are the rumours that at long last we are looking to fill the left-back spot, but with the injury-prone and surely past his best Wayne Bridge.

However, in Kenny we trust. And although much of this article is going over what we already know, here is a reminder of why we trust him so much:

Kenny’s track-record in transfer dealings is fantastic. His first signing in his last stint as Liverpool manager was Steve McMahon. A risky signing due to his inexperience playing for title-challengers and the fact that he was a boyhood Evertonian. However, Kenny saw past everything and decided that McMahon was the right man to add some much needed steel to an already fluid team, much in the way that the great Graeme Souness had contributed his physical dominance to the team during Kenny’s playing career. Kenny has gone on to making great signings in this position at Blackburn and Newcastle where he signed David Batty and the irreplaceable Didi Hamann respectively. Clearly, Kenny has a knack for making the right call in this regard. Therefore, despite the consistently good form of Lucas last season, we should not be surprised if Kenny recruits some much needed competition in this position, whether it be in this transfer window or the next.

Kenny then went on to sign John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, John Aldridge and Ray Houghton, all of whom require no discussion in terms of their contribution to the Reds trophy cause, at the same time as giving us some of the most free-flowing football ever to grace an English pitch. The decision to re-sign Ian Rush (at a profit) was also at Kenny’s insistence and paid dividends for years to come.

I just cant wait for the window to end. I want to know what Liverpool looks like next season. I also hope we can ship out some dead wood

Good article, although i like Raul he isnt the strongest at holding off players, although his shooting makes him look invincible we need some steel in midfield (stronger even than the ever improving Lucas)and to me Adams looks like that kind of player (McMahon-style)or even Casey for the guy`s who go back further,BUT in Kenny we do trust cant wait to see us win more games with less of the draws.

we are not content at signing wickham at 12mil. ’cause we have so much money we hope to sign him at 36mil in Jan 2012. where are the news on liverpool signing mata? can someone pls do something?

David Speedie was not a bad signing (check out his record when is was a the club). He just came at the wrong time when kenny quit a few weeks later, Souness didnt fancy him and shipped him out of the club.

I would not be surprised if Liverpool weren’t even interested in 98percent of the players reported in the media. All is very quite within the club and this is a good sign but it has the media blowing out all kinds of rubbish. I think we will be surprised when the eventual transfers do arrive. I for one do trust Kenny.

  • Teflon says:

We can’t sign Wickham for 12 Million, but we buy Carroll for 35 million!!
    Madness if you ask me!

I’mnot sure Carroll will ever be a 35 million player!!

  • zahid says:

I think we’d rather have an established proven experienced striker like Lavezzi then Wickham, he maybe one for the future.

  • Gerrardious says:

@Teflon: u almost sound like Wickham is ur younger brother.
But seriously, since when did clubs purchase players for the future at more than 5m?
u expect us to sign a player who has neva played in any senior league for 12m??
    why? bcos he’s English??
We will get a lot of players who will deliver instantly for much less.
    hi Zahid

Carroll was only £35M due to circumstance and Abramovich. He.would never have been that much if Torres wasn’t for sale at £50M. Bottom line is that only £2-3M was actually spent in January for Suarez and Carroll. The £35M argument is redundant. It was an absolutely unique situation with hours to go before the end of the transfer window with £50M burning a hole in our pocket and Carroll being the only available target man in Europe. The context is so unique, any comparison is useless. Let it go idiots.

i completely agree wid u ..off all the people u have explained the business done in january by liverpool in buying suarez n carol is describes very well by you..100% agree wid u on that 1..

    • zahid says:

Spurs bid 21 mill only a week before we bid for Carroll and it got rejected and Chavski were also interested before they came in for Torres in Jan.So in the end we would have still paid alot for Carroll……YNWA
