Donieber Alexander Marangon, more commonly known as “Doni” is expected to complete a move from Roma to Liverpool to become the Reds’ second choice goalkeeper, but what do we know about the 31 year old?

Doni was born in Sao Paulo and made his debut for Brazilian side Corinthians in 2001. After 3 relatively successful seasons in which he established himself as first choice and played over 80 games for the club, he moved to Santos in 2004.
Unfortunately for Doni, the move didn’t work and despite only playing 14 league matches, he was transferred to Cruzeiro for another brief spell in 2004-05 where he played pretty regularly. Still, the young keeper wasn’t really settled and another move was on the cards in 2005 when he transferred to Juventude.

At Juventude, he finally began to show his true capabilities and after 20 league appearances for the Brazilian club, he attracted the attentions of Roma. For a minimal fee he signed for the Italian giants in August 2005.

Doni was initially second choice keeper during the 2005/06 campaign and was reduced to fleeting appearances in the UEFA Cup. His first team chances were restricted because of the form of first choice Gianluca Curci but after impressing in the cup competitions, Doni was given his opportunity in the league.

For the next 4 seasons, the Brazilian would be Roma’s first choice goalkeepers winning 2 Coppa Italias and finishing runners up in Serie A in both 2007 and 2008. During this time he also got his first cap for Brazil against Turkey in a friendly, and this was quickly followed by a run of appearances in the 2007 Copa America, replacing Helton as first choice, as Brazil went on to win the competition.

Doni is a good keeper im a follower of the Italian league, hes a reliable keeper and will be a good back up to Pepe Reina as Brad Jones n Gulacsi aint good enough. Don’t worry aswell he may be Brazilian but he aint no Gomes or Dida prone to making mistakes, far from it, the only thing that concerns me is that these past few years hes been prone to picking up injuries. Hes 31 still plenty of years left for a keeper……YNWA

Jeremie Kyle is the Giggs family’s next port of call as Giggs brother has asked for a DNA test to see if his kids are his or Ryan’s lol

I think a mistake to sign Doni, he simply is not enough
Well, Gulacsi is as good as Doni and has 21 years recently. was
considered one of the great future prospects for the previous tournament
sub-21. moreover, Maxym Koval for example is 18 and debuted in the dynamo
Kiev at age 16, has a style similar to Pepe Reina and
Ukraine could learn much from pepe, also if we signed him before
December would be in the range of homegrown player within 3
years, when she turns 21 and fits perfectly with the philosophy of FSG.
