The Best Way Forward for Liverpool Football Club?

Rory Smith from the Daily Telegraph told talkSPORT over the weekend that he believes that Liverpool’s policy of bringing in Premier League players, rather than looking abroad for new recruits, is purely down to the fact that they will need less time to adapt to the Premier League.

There is certainly some sense in doing this as after all Kenny Dalglish will need to hit the ground running at the start of next season. Players from abroad, it can be argued, take from between 6 months to a year to adapt to life in English football and King Kenny is fully aware of the facts of life in modern football that if he doesn’t start well, pressure from the media (not the fans) will begin to grow.

Of course King Kenny can rise above such stuff but for him, his real focus is to get this side back in the Champions League as quickly as possible, and perhaps he feels bringing in players such as Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam will make this ambition realisable sooner rather than later.

The project being undertaken by Kenny, Steve Clarke, Damien Comolli and FSG is for the long term though, and I think it must be said that targeting Premier League players, rather than going to chase the world top players, is an admission that at this point in time the Reds are not where they once were.

For all those fans who believe that without Champions League football, Liverpool is just an equally attractive proposition for some of the world’s top stars, I think this is a naïve outlook. Certainly, Liverpool has a unique standing in world football and for many, such as Luis Suarez who grew up watching the Reds, the attraction of playing for such a prestigious club is undoubted.

There’s no trend. I wouldn’t say Liverpool fans have gotten more impatient. It’s just that we tend to know s**t when we see it – eg. Roy Hodgson. When you’re going down the wrong road in the first place, the solution is not to be patient and keep going.

That said, we don’t necessarily need star names either. The successful Liverpool teams of past decades weren’t built on stars. Sure, we bought a few big names, but most them started off as average players from average clubs. They became stars at Liverpool.

Has this been written after my comments in the other thread on Downing? It is exactly what is said.

Completely agree, the difference between us and Spurs will be that once we get Champions League we can upgrade some of our lesser players to World class as we’ll have the finances and the attraction of being Liverpool. Spurs have stood still, Arsenal have stood still, we’re coming to get you boys !!

Well! Everyone has been coming up with different opinions&views after series of dissection of the scenario at Lfc. As for me I have no problem with anybody’s opinion but what I’ll say is ‘Dalglish had better know what he’s doing. This approach of his had better work 4 him” cos it’s not gonna be funny lookin at another Lack lusterd Lfc next season. Peace.
