The Tuesday Transfer Column – Who’s leaving Liverpool?

|

David Ngog – A deal with Sunderland is expected to be completed soon as reported by various media. That Ngog will exit this summer seems assured. David Comolli stated on the matter that “Sunderland have had a strong interest in David, so we’ve agreed to let David speak to Sunderland about his future to see if he’s interested in going there. “They’ve expressed a strong interest, so we’ll see what’s next for him.” (lfc.tv)

The fee touted ranges from £3m (Liverpool Daily Post) to £5m (Setanta) to as high as £8m (ClickLiverpool). Reports over the last few days have suggested that Tony Pulis’ Stoke City are also showing some interest in the young French striker, and may yet make a late bid for his signature. (ClickLiverpool)

Joe Cole – Finding a buyer for Cole could prove difficult. Reportedly on 100k a week (Our Kop) and with 3 years remaining on his contract (The Guardian) there are not many clubs who could afford to match the midfielder’s pay packet at Anfield. To add to such a prohibitive wage, there are also doubts over his form and fitness for potential suitors to consider.

However, Cole has been linked with a potential reunion with Martin Jol at Fulham – albeit on a loan deal (The Sunday Mirror) and it has also been suggested that he may be used as part of an exchange deal with QPR which would see Adel Taarabt moving to Anfield (Liverpool Daily Post). Both deals look improbable, but it is early days in the transfer window – we‘ll keep you posted.

Christian Poulsen – As with Cole, doubts over his form and prohibitive wages mean that not many clubs have been linked with the Danish midfielder – who has two years left on his contract (The Guardian) and earns a reported 50k a week (Our Kop). Stoke City have been linked with a move (Click Liverpool). Any deal would see a loss taken on the man signed from Juventus for £4.5m last summer.

Alberto Aquilani – Impressed enough on loan at Juventus last season to force his way back into the Italian squad, but not enough for Juventus to make a firm bid for his services. A sad indictment of Italy’s midfield options? Or a recognition that the cost of the midfielder is too high? Aquilani has 3 years left on a contract (The Guardian) which pays 80k per week (Our Kop) yet for someone so highly paid, Aquilani seems to have little love for Liverpool.

His agent Frank Zavaglia has made it very public that his client has no wish to return to the club. Zavaglia claimed recently that Liverpool will now do business for £9m ( 10m), which would represent a big loss on a player bought for £18m ( 20m) two years ago (Sportsvibe).

Dalglish however, has not shut the door on the Italian and has been quoted praising Aqua’s performances this season – stating back in May that “There’s a distinct possibility he could be back here. He’s a quality player,”. “He got off to a bad start here with his injuries and never really got going after missing preseason. “He went out on loan and has done very well over there. If he was to come back here, for me that would be like a new face coming in.” (Goal.com) Whether Dalglish still feels this way, as Zavaglia continues to insist that Aquilani desperately wants out, remains to be seen.

Maxi Rodriguez – Maxi’s return to Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina was probably the most widely reported potential exit at Anfield over the last week (The Independent) (PA) (Skysports). Speculation that Maxi was looking to leave however, had been based on mistranslated quotes – the Argentine had said he would like to return one day, not this summer (lfconline) (BBC).

Dani Pacheco – Reportedly available for loan next season, with a queue of Championship clubs circling (The People). This remains to be seen, but the high amount of interest would be unsurprising, as Pacheco made a big impression in a small amount of time whilst on loan at Norwich at the tail end of last season.

Danny Wilson – A loan return to Rangers has been suggested (lfconline). As mentioned earlier, the Kygriakos situation has led to this scenario emerging.

Jonjo Shelvey – Linked as a ‘season loan’ makeweight in a move for Charlie Adam (VitalBlackpool). Shelvey has also been linked with Ipswich as part of a move for Connor Wickham, again in a ‘season loan’ capacity (TWTD- Ipswich site).

Released Reserves/Youth Players – Goalkeeper Deale Chamberlain, Defenders Steven Irwin and Jason Banton, Midfielders Alex Cooper and Sean Highdale and Forward Nikola Saric were all released by Liverpool this week. The best of luck to them all in the future.

I hope you enjoyed this digest of the latest ‘outgoing’ transfer speculation at Liverpool Football Club. Expect many twists and turns ahead over the next couple of months, and also expect the rumours to gain new impetus once the European window opens properly on the 1st of July.

Each Tuesday I’ll get you all up to date on any future developments or news relating to the potential destinations of Liverpool players. Others have not been forgotten, they are conspicuous in their absence – such as Milan Jovanovic, Emiliano Insua and Philipp Degen. In their cases, there has been a lack of clear interest or speculation thus far. It remains to be seen whether they will stay or go. But if they do leave, where they will be playing their football next season?

Be sure to check back here each Tuesday for the weekly review of transfer speculation on outgoing players at LFC.

As always, any feedback or suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for reading!

I think Konchesky & JCole ‘ll find a place in LFC squad; because they are English. We have paid or willing to pay double than worth for only being English, therefore whats the problem to feed few more.

It makes me sick that we are thinking off-loading Mireales & expecting to qualify for CL. This years’ qualifiers & Spurs with their non English players easily ‘ll push us out of top 4.

  • Fahad says:

There are few other players who should be leaving liverpool which i don wanna mention but i am surprised these media is involving meireles who was one of our top perfomers of last season! makes me sick!

  • Chybuz says:

No matter who gose out comes in, Raul must stay kenny.

  • C. Jay says:

Raul is staying, he is going no way.

  • Red4Life says:

Agree – Raul going no where and plus seem to recall KK saying a while ago that the squad is good and just needs a few additions rather than wholesale changes. Need a couple or marquee signings + more confidence throughout the squad = a much better league position than last year.

A good winning start to the new season would be nice for the lads confidence, plus the free flowing football we played at times since KK took over then who knows what will happen.
