I think we should not ignore Comolli’s role in this transfer window. Comolli has been there before and is not afraid to recommend big-money buys of talented players – Modric, Bale, Berbatov and others are rich testimony to both a daring and generally successful approach to transfers.
Dalglish is not one to fear big-money transfers either (Shearer), so we have a bold team backed by owners who have shown themselves so far to be a perfect fit to Liverpool’s traditions and ambitions.
I had been suggesting we pick up Javi Martinez a year or two ago, and Henderson looks to be a player of a similar mould, similar amount of experience and similar amount of potential. The price would’ve been very similar for Martinez also, so I think it is a pretty fair deal tbh.
I’ve only seen Henderson play a couple of times, but he does look proper quality from the little that I have seen (as a central midfielder though, as a winger I’d expect us to be pretty disappointed with him…)
He won’t be playing as a winger so we have no worries there!
We just need a left back now. I would also push Johnson up top with Carroll and Suarez and play Kelly at right back. Johnson can cross with both feet and possesses a good shot – it did it for Bale, give it a go with Johnson!
